The video of Ray Rice striking his then-fiancée Janay Palmer in the face in an Atlantic City casino was allegedly sent to the NFL back in April by a law enforcement official.
NFL Received Ray Rice Video
The law enforcement official, who has chosen to remain anonymous, claims that he sent the video to NFL headquarters addressed to Jeffrey Miller, who heads security for the organization. "I mailed it anonymously to Jeff Miller because he's their head of security. I attached a note saying: 'Ray Rice elevator video. You have to see it. It's terrible,'” said the unnamed official. “I provided a number for a disposable cellphone and asked for confirmation that it was received. I knew there was a possibility Mr. Miller may not get the video, but I hoped it would land in the right hands."
While the official did not receive contact from Miller, he did...

State of the Union host Candy Crowley pressed Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs Jeff Miller (R-fl) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-vt) on the extent of oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs, wondering whether firing Va Secretary General Eric Shinseki would address the true extent of the problem. While doing so, she also jabbed at the House Gop and its many subpoenas.

Earl Morse had no idea that a casual question would end up launching him on a life-changing crusade. It was December 2004, and the physician assistant was chatting with some World War II veteran patients when the subject turned to the memorial in their honor that had just opened the previous spring in Washington, D.C. "I said to them, 'Have you been to see your new memorial?' " says Morse, 54, who was working at an outpatient clinic for veterans in Chillicothe, Ohio. "Sadly, none of them had been," says Morse, who still works as a full-time Pa for the Va and lives in Enon,...

Before "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening sent Homer on a 23 year, 500-plus episode odyssey of "d'oh!" on Fox, he had another high profile employer: Apple.
Over at the blog Vintage Zen, Linus Edwards compiled the artwork Groening created for Apple during his pre-Homer days. While the college-centric catalog "Who Needs A Computer Anyway?" was an Internet treasure for a few years, we're never seen this pair of promotional posters he drew for the company, featured below.
Both the catalog and the posters use characters from "Life In Hell," the comic strip Groening illustrated before he got his start in television. One poster, titled "Networking In Hell", told prospective Mac buyers to "bring your floppies down to Akbar ‘n’ Jeff’s Communications Hut":

Them's Mark Wightman, Sarah Mann and Jeff Miller with Fnuky's Jeremy Ervine
Adelaide agency Fnuky has sold to a local rival for an undisclosed sum.
The agency of ten people, which was founded by strategy director Jeremy Ervine and creative director David Campbell eight years ago, has been bought by Them, a full service agency that has been on the acquisition trail in South Australia.
Ervine and Campbell are to leave the business to start a new venture. The Fnuky name will not remain.
The deal brings to an end three months of negotiations between Fnuky and Them, which has been growing quickly by acquisition.
Them bought La Advertising in January and Motown Media last year. It now offers inhouse TV, radio and digital production and media buying as well as advertising and marketing services.
Them was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
Ervine told Mumbrella: “I’m not a sentimental person.

Could Congress have prevented the Bp mess? A report reveals that a law enacted after the Exxon Valdez to avoid future oil spills was deprived of cash by lawmakers.
President Obama's commission investigating the disastrous Bp oil spill quietly issued a draft report on the response last week, and within that document, largely unnoticed, emerged a damning finger pointed directly at Congress for failing to heed the lessons of the Exxon Valdez.
Related story on The Daily Beast: The Real Environmental Disaster
Specifically, in 1990, shortly after Exxon's 750,000-barrel Alaska catastrophe, Congress passed the Oil Pollution Act to funnel up to $28 million in research money annually to pre-empt and respond to possible disasters, as the oil industry "pushed the frontier of deepwater drilling." This money wouldn't come from the general coffers, but rather a trust fund, covered by a 5-cent per-barrel tax collected from the oil industry.

Now that new reports say Elin Nordegren is almost certainly divorcing her cheating husband Tiger Woods, we’ll be seeing a lot less of her. Elin’s trip to Sweden with the kids isn’t just a vacation: it’s all part of her strategy to win half of Tiger’s estimated $670 million fortune.
Staying out of sight in Sweden and letting the lawyers handle all the gruesome details of the divorce will benefit both Elin and the children emotionally and monetarily. In Sweden, Tiger has less access to her. Everything will be decided by the lawyers.
It’s in Elin’s best interest to stay quiet to negotiate the best possible settlement. She may have signed a pre-nup when she married Tiger that stated she would only receive $20 million after ten years of marriage, but in light of Tiger’s indiscretions and how valuable Elin...

Old masters never die; they're just endlessly recycled. There haven't been many notable script sales yet this year, but two that went down recently are both being positioned as reflective of the Master of Suspense. Since it's highly unlikely that a film coming out of any Hollywood studio at this point would have the pace and patience of a film by Alfred Hitchcock, what can we expect from a couple of new thrillers that seek to trade on his influence? The first on deck is Playing Joe, a script by Jeff Miller picked up by Castle Rock. The company has already set a new scribe to rewrite: Nicholas Meyer. His name is one that earns instant geek cred, by virtue of having written three of the even-numbered Star Trek films (i.e. 'the good ones') and directed two of them, most notably The Wrath of Khan. Meyer also wrote the...

Nicholas Meyer, the writer and director of Star Trek II, has been brought onboard by Castle Rock to rewrite Playing Joe, a romantic thriller a la Hitchcock’s North By Northwest.Meyer, who’s been a fairly prolific writer away from the world of Kirk and Spock (his new book, The View From The Bridge, details his career on Trek), will rework the original script by Jeff Miller. The film, to be produced by Mike Lobell and Castle Rock’s Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer, will be set in Rio. Though plot details are under wraps, it will concern memory loss – and, we’re guessing, an innocent man wrongfully accused. After all, that North By Northwest comparison has to come from somewhere. No director is yet on board. In other Lobell news, the producer is pressing on with plans to remake the British 60s-set comedy, Gambit, with a screenplay by the Coen brothers,...

Another year, another TV watching marathon.
Jeff Miller, a businessman from Illinois, won his third (yup, third) Ultimate Couch Potato title at Espn Zone. Miller watched TV for three straight days, beating three other TV fans who couldn't stay up for that long. Not only if this the third straight time that Miller has won the title, he broke the Guinness World Record for watching television. He also won $1000 for a new TV, a recliner, a year of cable, $1000 to spend at Espn Zone, and a trophy shaped like a potato. He also gets to sleep for a few hours if he wants to.
Miller was only allowed to go to the bathroom every eight hours. I'm not sure if I could do that, especially if I'm drinking and/or eating during the three days. I think that would be harder than the staying up part. I wonder if they...
