The best part of Baywatch was that everyone on screen seemed completely invested in making it a good movie. It isn’t a good movie— it isn’t even particularly close to being a good movie— but the cast is willing to push as hard as they can to make it better. Baywatch is elevated from the train wreck I’m sure it is on the page in to a simply bland, kind of mediocre, film. Baywatch is a reasonably charming medley of punchless comedy, unintelligible story, and a generous amount of scantily clad pretty people. It’s the kind of movie to see on an exceptionally hot day, or if your first choice movie is sold out and you’ve already put in so much effort to park at the mall.
I paid careful attention to the story in Baywatch and I’m still not entirely sure what was going on.

One of the most illustrious Bollywood actresses in the world, Priyanka Chopra has turned her head to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, to star in Baywatch – as the film’s leading antagonist.
Speaking to HeyUGuys during the London leg of the film’s promotional tour, Chopra explains that initially the role wasn’t written for a female, but for a man – and needless to say she was thrilled they changed the part for her. She also tells us about her own experiences watching Baywatch in India as a child, and how she was reassured that this reboot of the TV series would not be quite so of its time, and move into a modern world successfully.
Naturally we got on to the topic of working with Dwayne Johnson, and finally we asked Chopra about her ambitions to one day work in Hollywood (she didn’t have...

21 Jump Street has a lot to answer for. Now, I know big screen remakes of old t.v. shows are nothing new, but the success of Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s R-Rated, meta comedy, has given rise to a number of imitators who have grabbed the wrong end of the stick, thinking incredibly blue language and gross out humour is the way to go. The latest movie up to bat is Baywatch, a show that people only remember because of David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, and that one joke from Friends. While you never call it a t.v. classic, the original show was cheesy, fun camp about lifeguards whose main skill was slow motion running, but director Seth Gordon (Identity Thief, Horrible Bosses) forgoes all that, upping the raunch and saddling it with generic R-Rated humour that never manages to hit the mark. Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron share the spotlight as Mitch Buchannon,...

Baywatch is finally here! This has been one of the most anticipated films of the summer. The pairing of Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson seems almost too good to be true, but the movie gods have blessed us, and has made them a pair of lifeguards in this reboot. We have a feeling this will follow in the footsteps of 21 Jump Street, in that it will be hilarious, self-aware, and likely one of the best comedies of the year. It also stars Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario, and you can bet we'll find Pamela Anderson in there somewhere.
The Baywatch headquarters has hired shallow gold medalist Matt Brody (Efron) as their PR representative, and his party-boy antics rub Mitch Buchanan (Johnson) the wrong way. But they'll have to work together to stop a crime syndicate from ruining the Bay.

The Baywatch film reboot starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron is getting panned by critics. The film, directed by Seth Gordon, follows Johnson as devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon as he attempts to train the cocky newbie Matt Brody (Efron). The film makes the most out of its R rating, with a lot of crude language, sexual content and nudity. The […]

Grab your watercrafts and crackers, folks! We’re on our way to CheesyTown, and the first stop is Emerald Bay. To begin, let’s get one thing out of the way, you needn’t be a seasoned Baywatch vet to enjoy the new big-screen incarnation. Being born pre-1989 is not a prerequisite to claim your love for The Bay. Will it help? Perhaps, from a nostalgia standpoint. The same level of cheese is spread thick in both the time-honored show and the brand-new film. The jokes will be new, though. And there is a heck of a lot more pubic and genitalia humor, thanks to the R-rating they’ve procured this time around.
But Baywatch isn’t the kind of post-tv show reboot that mandates hours of binge-watching several syndicated seasons worth of plot to understand what’s going on in the subsequent film. Nope; no need. Do you enjoy jiggling body parts?...

Baywatch begins so promisingly! Dwayne Johnson as Mitch Buchannon, chief lifeguard of Baywatch, dives into treacherous waters to rescue a drowning parasailer. He then rises from the water grinning ear-to-ear as dolphins leap in the background and the movie’s title, sculpted in stone, rises from the ocean. This opening sets a perfectly silly tone but one that the film can’t maintain as things slowly go downhill from there. Don’t’ get me wrong – Baywatch is good, and I’ll be seeing it again opening weekend, but it’s a far cry from the masterpiece I think we were all expecting. Time to silence that Oscar buzz.
The elements are here for epic summer indulgence – vulgar comedy, explosive action, a dream cast, a vamping Bollywood superstar, cameos from the TV show’s original stars, and a sea of fine bikinied bottoms. So how do they screw up the big-screen Baywatch reboot?...

The first big-screen Baywatch film has failed to make a splash with most movie critics. The movie, set for release Friday, stars Dwayne Johnson as head lifeguard Mitch Buchannon, a role David Hasselhoff played on the hit syndicated series, while Zac Efron portrays colleague Matt Brody. The film also features Kelly Rohrbach, Alexandra Daddario and Priyanka Chopra. Meanwhile, Hasselhoff and fellow past original star Pamela Anderson also make appearances. But the eye candy and the nostalgia was not enough for many. Here are five reviews from top critics. 1. The New York Post's Reed Tucker gives Baywatch 1 and 1/2 out of 4 stars, writing...

Watching Baywatch, the R-rated reboot of the long-running '90s primetime soap, I finally understood how doctors and lawyers must feel when they watch TV, how difficult it is to focus on plot when your chosen profession is being depicted wildly irresponsibly. Having guarded lives throughout my teenage years, I must ask: are any of these people even CPR certified?! (Dead bodies do occasionally just wash ashore, though. That is true.)
Anyway, Baywatch revolves around "Lieutenant" Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson, taking on David Hasselhoff's small screen namesake), a lifeguard so proficient at his job that he knows when an accident is going to happen before it even happens, and his newest trainee: Matt Brody (Zac Efron playing, essentially, Ryan Lochte, had he attempted to rehabilitate his post-Olympics image by lifeguarding instead of Dancing With the Stars).

Baywatch was the most popular internationally syndicated TV series of the 1990s. And even though the drama about Southern California lifeguards often unfolded like self-parody — its appeal rested mainly on a swimsuit-clad Pamela Anderson running down the beach in slow motion and David Hasselhoff’s questionable emoting — it took itself as seriously as a show based on eye candy could.
This year’s movie version of Baywatch knows better than to do that. It’s consciously a comedy (the director, Seth Gordon, has given us Identity Thief, Horrible Bosses and TV’s The Goldbergs). And according to Zac Efron, one of the film’s stars, there are numerous other improvements.
“The movie has a little more to it,” Efron, 29, says during a chat on the Universal Studios backlot just outside Los Angeles.

There's a point in this big-screen version of the ultra-cheesy beef- and cheesecake Nineties TV show in which Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Zac Efron both play with a dead guy's dick and nutsack. We could not make this up if we tried. No one, including original stars David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, ever toyed with floppy genitalia, at least not onscreen. But that was then. The new, anatomically correct Baywatch is rated R. How else could you distinguish it from the softcore tide of hot lifeguards, all running down...

Blame it on 21 Jump Street. In 2012, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller rebooted a silly, cult television series with a clever wink. It was a hit that spawned a hit sequel. Now we have Baywatch, directed by Seth Gordon, a not-so-clever adaptation of an ultra-silly television series that got popular in the 90s. Dwayne Johnson stars as Mitch Buchannon, the studly leader of Baywatch, the world’s most elite lifeguard crew. Filling out his batch of loyal Baywatch-ers are Stephanie Holden (Ilfenesh Hadera), Cj Parker (Kelly Rohrbach), Summer Quinn (Alexandra Daddario), Ronnie (Jon Bass) and Matt Brody (Zac Efron), a disgraced Olympian forced to fulfill his community service with the team.
There are drugs on the beach and it’s on Mitch and co. to get to the bottom of things. But, also not really. It’s actually a job for the police, as the screenplay (from, take a deep breath,...

The reviews are in for “Baywatch,” which opens in theaters this Thursday, May 25. Seth Gordon’s feature film remake of the iconic ’90s series about a group of very hot lifeguards stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as devoted rescuer Mitch Buchannon (the role played by David Hasselhoff in the original series), who has a really hard time with a reckless new recruit named Matt Brody (Zac Efron). Priyanka Chopra co-stars as the villainous vixen, Victoria Leeds, Alexandra Daddario is Summer, Ilfenesh Hadera is Stephanie and Kelly Rohrbach takes on the role of C.J. Parker (originally played by Pamela Anderson).
In her B- review for the film for IndieWire, Judy Dry describes it as “a splashy summer hit full of dick jokes,” adding that “something about the blow-up floaties, the water rescues, and the red suits just screams summer blockbuster.

At a crucial plot moment in Paramount’s big-screen adaptation of the popular ’90s lifeguard TV show “Baywatch,” brash, upstart recruit Matt Brody (Zac Efron) is playing with a dead man’s shriveled penis in a morgue. At the behest of his boss, Lieutenant Mitch Buchanan (Dwayne Johnson), Brody is looking for clues specifically in the “taint” region, trying to find anything that might point to the cause of the local politician’s covered-up death.

You have to hand it to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson: The man knows how to have a good time. Through an elaborate fireworks display used to blow off a human foot, or an “American Ninja Warrior”-style standoff with a veiny Zac Efron (he wins), the Rock commands a movie screen with a tranquil sheen that’s as smooth and shiny as the skin on his head. Taking over for David Hasselhoff as lifeguard Mitch Buchannon, he is comfortable commandeering jet-skis, diving into ocean fires, and bulldozing bad guys without breaking a sweat.

Some people stand in the darkness, afraid to step into the light – the immortal first lines of the theme song from cult 1980s Us TV series Baywatch. If you’re not of a certain age, the sun-drenched, sweat-glistened and slow-motioned extravaganza probably won’t mean the same to you as those who were there for its inception, but for those who vividly remember those Saturday early evenings watching a slice of “Americana”, it holds a special place in their heart. Now, almost 30 years and numerous attempts later, a film version has found its way to big-screen thanks, in part, to Dwayne Johnson. Does it swim or sink without trace? Well, somewhere in the middle. A frenzied “doggy-paddle” if you will.

Here’s my knee-jerk reaction to Seth Gordon’s Baywatch reboot: “This cast is onto something!” Dwayne Johnson is so passionate about playing Mitch Buchannon (in David Hasselhoff’s wake), down to his deranged insistence that lifeguards are deputized beach police. You’ll find laughs, zaniness and plenty of signature slow-motion jiggling, but it’s buried under a burdensome two-hour procedural.
Back-to-back scenes often feel like they’re penned by two wholly different writing teams, as Gordon wrestles with tonal ambiguity like flailing octopus tentacles. Wrapped around one arm are repetitive genitalia “jokes,” while straight-faced seriousness binds the other. Either way Gordon pulls, the other side snaps right back. This just ain’t the 21-Jump-Street-at-sea everyone dreamed of, unfortunately.
We meet Johnson’s Lieutenant Buchannon as Baywatch prepares for another year of tryouts. Hopeful lifeguards like star-cadet Summer Quinn (Alexandra Daddario) and big dreamer Ronnie Greenbaum (Jon Bass) compete for...

Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron headline Baywatch, a movie whose marketing is much better than the film itself.
The trend of old 80s properties being remake into R-rated comedies aimed at audiences who never saw the original is approaching a middle, and the latest to jump on the coattails of its more successful predecessors is Baywatch, from Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon.
The film follows the Baywatch lifeguard team as they monitor the most dramatic beach in the world, but when new recruit Matt Brody (Zac Efron) joins the squad after leaving his Olympic swimming career in disgrace, head lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) must teach him the value of teamwork. Meanwhile, the beach’s safety is threatened when a local drug smuggling ring is discovered.
Yet the problem here is that Baywatch just isn’t ludicrous enough. It shoots for the outlandish comedy and heartfelt centre of 21 Jump Street...

No pain, no gain. Case in point: Zac Efron, who plays Matt Brody in the 2017 rendition of Baywatch. The actor, along with co-stars Alex Daddario and Jon Bass, worked with celeb fitness trainer Patrick Murphy four to five times a week for four to six months to prepare for the swimsuit-heavy reboot. If the actors' post-movie bodies are any indication, these workouts were no easy feat. "Patrick's training was confusing at first...I just thought I was showing up to lift weights and get a deeper six pack (which is hard enough already)," Zac wrote in a statement. "But rather than the typical bodybuilding type of movements I had become accustomed to, Patrick pushed me to my 'functional'...

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is still enjoying his reign as People’s Sexiest Man Alive, but he’s also got his eye on who might be worthy of this year’s honor.
At Saturday’s South Beach premiere for Johnson’s upcoming Baywatch movie, he said costar Zac Efron could potentially be in the running for the title — if he gets a say in the matter, at least.
“Do I get a vote? Then yes, absolutely I could see that,” he says. “I could see one out of five happening, I can’t divulge that right now, but he’s in the top five.

“Welcome to Baywatch!” – yes after months and months of anticipation and promotion, the remake of the beloved television series is now just weeks away and in celebration of that fact, Paramount Pictures have released a new R-Rated trailer for the film, which you can view in the player below!
Directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), Baywatch promises to be the biggest and best R-rated comedy of the year – and judging by this new trailer, they have but the “R” in restricted for sure. And after the failure of fellow television adaptation CHiPS earlier this year, this one is flying the flag to prove that not all shows that make it to the big screen are considered disappointments.

Two weeks out from the film’s theatrical release – for those in North America, at least – Paramount has assembled the riotous final trailer for Baywatch, and if you thought you’d seen everything Seth Gordon’s feature film has to offer, think again. “Fuck that noise, let’s go handle business.”
Placing a heavy emphasis on the buddy-cop dynamic simmering between Dwayne Johnson (Mitch Buchannon) and Zac Efron (Matt Brody) – “get Rocked; get Ef’d” – today’s blistering teaser is undoubtedly the most ridiculous Baywatch promo yet, which is either exactly what you want to hear or enough to make you cover your eyes whilst yelling “desecration!”
Loosely based on the unashamedly cheesy TV series of the same name, Baywatch looks set to take a leaf from Jump Street‘s book in its journey over to the big screen. The premise is relatively simple, too: amid their pissing contest, Johnson...

Baywatch is a franchise that needs no introduction. Ever since Mitch Buchannon and his cadre of lifeguards first jogged onto the small screen in ’89, it’s a name that has been synonymous with sun, sand, red bikinis, orange-hued sunsets, and wonderfully cheesy pop songs – because running in slow-mo just isn’t the same without David Hasselhoff’s “Current of Love” blaring over the speakers.
A creative overhaul shook things up in 1999, when Baywatch relocated to the sun-kissed beaches of Hawaii. But it’s fair to say that the series never really captured the magic of the show’s heyday. As a brand, Baywatch needed the reboot treatment. Enter Paramount, director Seth Gordon and Dwayne Johnson, the global superstar that has been jokingly referred to as franchise viagra after injecting a new lease of life in The Fast and the Furious saga and, to a lesser extent, G.I. Joe. The...

“It’s up to us to restore the Baywatch brand!”
If you’ve seen the latest trailer for Paramount and Seth Gordon’s sun-kissed reboot, you’ll no doubt remember the moment in which Mitch Buchannon’s (Dwayne Johnson) superior outlines a mission to course-correct his company’s public image – a strategy that involves recruiting cocksure lifeguard Matt Brody (Zac Efron) – but it’s that tongue-in-cheek line that really applies to the package as a whole.
In order to modernize Baywatch for a 2017 audience, the Powers That Be have ditched the fist-pumping power ballads and cheesy drama in favor of a balls-to-the-wall action movie that takes more than a few cues from Sony’s wildly popular Jump Street series. From a soundtrack featuring Notorious B.I.G. to the film’s R rating, the Baywatch of 2017 is a far cry from the original TV series, and that’s a change in tact...

Zac Efron. Dwayne Johnson. Muscles. Beach. Zac Efron’s and Dwayne Johnson’s muscles at a beach…
Now that we objectified male actors for a change, let’s dive deep into Baywatch, a Seth Gordon film that’s set to be released on May 28 of this year. Judging just from Gordon’s previous work on Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief, it looks funny, and it looks good.
Move over David Hasselhoff! Dwayne Johnson takes over his role as Mitch Buchanan, the super hunky main lifeguard who now has to deal with a new recruit, Matt Brody, and his sporadic ways. Originally played by David Charvet in the television series, this new lifeguard is, surprise, played by Zac Efron. Together, the two must learn to overcome their differences after they find some underground crime ring that could potentially destroy the Bay.

Undercover woman, Jason Bourne wannabe, shirtless lifesaver and hot doc -- the latest Baywatch trailer is here and delightfully showcases the many looks of Zac Efron, all of them as sexy as the next!
With just over two months to go until the Dwayne Johnson-led film hits theaters, the new teaser has fans counting down to see Efron’s character, Matt Brody, in his full glory.
Exclusive: Zac Efron Reveals His ‘Baywatch’ Character
The athlete makes his entrance in the trailer by rolling up on a motorbike looking fierce in a leather jacket as Johnson’s character, Mitch Buchanan, greets him with, “Hey, One Direction.”
The hunk then shows off his seriously ripped gold medal-winning bodybuilding form (complete with a dog on either side); carries two fridges on his back while shirtless on the beach, and sports his best Hawaiian shirt/slicked back hair look.

If there was ever any uncertainty over Baywatch‘s classification, the gleefully over-the-top new trailer has arrived to silence the doubters and effectively prove that, yes, Paramount and Seth Gordon’s franchise reboot is very much rated R for being unashamedly ridiculous.
That’s not the official description, of course, but it is a fairly accurate summary of Baywatch‘s latest and arguably greatest trailer. Rounding up Paramount’s so-called Avengers of the beach in hilarious fashion, the promo begins by introducing our newfound heroes as the crème de la crème – or the elite of the elite, as Dwayne Johnson’s Mitch Buchannon so aptly puts. Gone are the cheesy montages and camp storylines of the original TV series and in their place, Seth Gordon has adopted a tongue-in-cheek tone that will be familiar to anyone who’s enjoyed 21 Jump Street and its wonderfully self-aware sequel.

Paramount Pictures dropped a new trailer for summer blockbuster “Baywatch” on Wednesday, and this one gives the best glimpse yet of the maturation of its IP. The movie version’s language alone clearly makes the big-screen adaptation of the lifeguard action-drama even less for the kids than David Hasselhoff’s beach-babe vehicle. In the first 30 seconds of this teaser alone, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Mitch Buchanan brags to a sand artist about his “big d–k”; shortly thereafter, he calls Zac Efron’s Matt Brody a “p—y.” Oh, and the whole thing opens with the still-occasional WWE Superstar...

Zac Efron and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are working together to stop beach crime as lifeguards in the new “Baywatch” trailer released during the Super Bowl. The reboot of the 1990s David Hasselhoff TV show is all jokes, mostly at the expense of Efron’s clueless hunk Matt Brody. The Rock is taking on the role of veteran lifeguard Mitch Buchannon, the character Hasselhoff originated on the TV show. The two don’t seem to get along much, especially when Efron opens his mouth without thinking it through, and rips off his pants to reveal an American flag Speedo in the trailer.

A new crew of gorgeous-looking lifeguards are ready to patrol the beaches of California in the big screen adaptation of “Baywatch.” Fans of the iconic ‘90s series first got a glimpse at the upcoming action-comedy, directed by Seth Gordon in December. The latest clip features Dwayne Johnson as devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon and Zac Efron as Matt Brody, the reckless new recruit, butting heads and taking charge. After finding a dead body in their beach and worried about the future of the bay, Mitch decides that the lifeguards should take a look at the criminal activities going on.
Moments of hilarity, buff bods and plenty of action with the team in full “lifeguard pursuit” will ensue.

On board to help Dwayne Johnson protect the bay are Zac Efron (Matt Brody), Alexandra Daddario (Summer), Kelly Rohrbach (C.J.), Ilfenesh Hadera (Stephanie Holden) and Jon Bass as Ronnie, a “funny, awkward and a skilled disco dancer at the beach.” After remarking on her slow-mo run – a not-so-subtle reference to the original TV series – Baywatch will find Ronnie head over heels in love with Rohrbach’s C.J., and...

Protect the Bay at all costs. That’s the underlying message found in today’s pair of international trailers for Paramount’s Baywatch movie, but you better believe that Dwayne Johnson’s Mitch Buchannon and the gang are going to have some fun while doing so.
Held up as the elite of the elite, the core Baywatch team is comprised of Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera and Jon Bass, who all band together to combat Priyanka Chopra’s power-mongering oil tycoon – and save a few lives along the way, of course. "I thought we were lifeguards. Everything that you guys are talking about sounds like a really entertaining, but far-fetched TV show," Zac Efron's Matt Brody says in this new trailer for Baywatch.
The film looks to do for the old Baywatch TV show what the 21 Jump Street movies did for their source material: Make a wacky old premise cool, funny, and somewhat take the piss out of it.
The new Baywatch stars Dwayne Johnson, Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Priyanka Chopra, Kelly Rohrbach, Jon Bass, and Ilfenesh Hadera. You can check out the new Nsfw international trailer right here:
Lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) and a brash new recruit (Zac Efron) uncover a criminal plot that threatens the future of the bay.
Baywatch arrives on May 26.
