In his book ‘The Great Movies: Volume 2’, Roger Ebert wrote that “King Kong is the father of Jurassic Park, the Alien movies, and countless other stories where the heroes are terrified by skillful special effects”. In volume 1, he wrote that “Star Wars was a technological watershed that influenced many of the movies that came after.” In this article, Cinelinx looks at an 82 year old monster movie and a 38 year old space opera, in order to determine which is the seminal film in the evolution of movies in regard to setting the path for the modern era.
Let’s start with King Kong. It’s been 10 years since the last film version of King Kong, which was directed by Peter Jackson. (Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit) There was a remake by Dino De Laurentis in 1976, and even a few Japanese Dai Kaiju Eiga versions of the giant ape in the 1960s,...

Having failed to impress at the Detroit performance of his "Violent Torpedo of Truth" tour, Charlie Sheen moved on to New York and opened at Radio City Music Hall. In disturbing news, major e-retailer Amazon.Com has removed sales ranks from books with Glbt content, many of them genre related. Books such as George Bennet Fain Pandora's Box, about gay vampires and shape shifters, Steve Berman's supernatural novel Vintage: A Ghost Story,, and doorQ.com Contributing Writer Duane Simolke's Degranon: A Science Fiction Adventure have had their rankings removed.
According to Publisher's Weekly, originally Amazon stated they were removing "erotic" books from the ranking. Indeed, blogger Mark R. Probst emailed Amazon asking for an explanation and was told by the company that:
In consideration of our entire customer base, we exclude "adult" material from appearing in some searches and best seller lists. Since these lists are generated using sales ranks, adult materials must also be excluded from that feature.
On the face of it, this doesn't appear to be true. Books like Berman's Vintage and other queer novels...

I've gone back for two children's tours since, became Emc [Equity Membership Candidate] because of it -- oh, and met my boyfriend there, who I now live with…almost three years! The artistic director at the time, Kevin Moriarty (now with Dallas Theater Center), and the associate, Wendy Dann, gave us a Thornton Wilder quote: "The test of an adventure is that when you're in the middle of it, you say to yourself, 'Oh, now I've got myself into an awful mess; I wish I were sitting quietly at home.' And the sign that something's wrong with you is when...
