“Fireband” is a new Brit-produced historical drama feature, directed by Karim Aïnouz, recounting the life of ‘Katherine Parr’, the last wife of ‘Henry VIII’, starring Alicia Vikander, Jude Law, Eddie Marsan, Ruby Bentall, Bryony Hannah, Sam Riley, and Maia Jemmett, releasing June 14, 2024 in theaters:
“..in ‘Tudor England’, twice married, accomplished, and educated ‘Katherine Parr’ (Vikander), reluctantly agrees to become the sixth wife of the tyrannical ‘King Henry VIII’ (Law).
“Her consent to marry him carries great personal risk, given that her predecessors are either vanquished, beheaded, or dead. When Henry appoints her as ‘Regent’, the nation’s ruler during his absence when he departs to fight overseas, he lays a dangerous path for her.
“Henry’s courtiers, suspecting she’s sympathetic to radical ‘Protestant’ beliefs that have taken root in the kingdom and are a threat to their power, scheme against her and cast doubts upon her fidelity to the increasingly ailing and paranoid King.

Alicia Vikander has joined the cast of the psychological Tudor horror ‘Firebrand’ as principal photography gets underway.
Vikander replaces the previously announced Michelle Williams in the role of Henry VIII’s final wife Queen Katherine Parr. Law will play the role of the tyrannical Tudor King Henry the VIII.
The story will focus on Parr and her singular point-of-view of the psychological horror of living with a monster—and the remarkable will to not only survive but thrive. It will follow the last months of Katherine Parr’s survival as Queen of England, consequently the last months of Henry VIII’s life as King.
Having witnessed Henry disposing of his wives through death and divorce, not only did Parr have a secret agenda but had no assurances of a happy marriage; in fact, she had no assurances of surviving the marriage at all.
Also in news – Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu...

Call the Midwife. BBC
Kieran Kinsella
Season one of Call The Midwife was a surprise hit on both sides of the Atlantic. Heidi Thomas (Upstairs Downstairs) did an amazing job of adapting Jennifer Worth’s characters for the small screen. Millions of fans laughed, wept and cheered as Jenny, Chummy and friends delivered babies and helped some of London’s poorest folks to rise above their lot in life.
Season two, was arguably even better than the first season of the show because we didn’t have to waste time with introductions. We just jumped straight into the action as Sister Evangelina and Trixie risked life and limb to deliver a baby aboard a cargo ship.

Dead Boss writers Sharon Horgan and Holly Walsh have claimed that their new BBC Three show is more like Mean Girls than a "social commentary" on life in jail. The programme, which stars Jennifer Saunders and Call The Midwife's Bryony Hannah, centres around the supposedly false imprisonment of Horgan's character Helen Stephens for the murder of her employer. Speaking to journalists including Digital Spy, the pair explained that they intended for Dead Boss to be "silly" despite its dark premise. "We watched a lot of high school films like Mean Girls," Walsh admitted. "We sort of liked the idea of writing the prison like a high school with the cliques and the bitchy remarks. There were stupid girls and sporty girls and whatnot. "We don't want to write a social commentary on prisons at all. (more)...

Jennifer Saunders has signed up for a role in BBC Three's new comedy Dead Boss. The show, which was written by and stars Sharon Horgan and Holly Walsh, focuses on a woman called Helen who is falsely imprisoned for the murder of her boss. Saunders has now joined the cast and will play the prison governor, Chortle reports. The hysteria in Lillian Hellman's play is no match for the hype surrounding leading ladies Keira Knightley and Elisabeth Moss
Quiet please, everyone. This revival of The Children's Hour ticks every hype box, so we have a lot to get through. Fresh-ish from his triumph with Jerusalem, Ian Rickson has cast Elisabeth Moss (from hysterically admired Us soap opera Mad Men) and Keira Knightley (out of all those films) together in a play about rumours in a girls' school that is packed with unrequited girl-on-girl desire. It's not quite Nicole Kidman starkers; but it's enough to make tickets near impossible to get, and therefore fashionable to have. "One might cynically wonder if Knightley and Moss were unimaginative commercial casting," says Kate Bassett in the Independent on Sunday. One might also wonder whether anybody in the world could be capable of believing anything else.
Cutting to the chase, then, as...

Comedy, London; Studio, Sheffield Theatres; Royal Court, London
There have been reports of one ticket changing hands for £900. Ian (Jerusalem) Rickson's production of The Children's Hour will be worth that for fans of Keira Knightley and Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss: they'll be in the same arena as two stars who prove they can act off-screen. It isn't worth that as a theatrical experience: neither actor is transcendent; the production – startlingly, as Rickson is habitually both delicate and acute – is listless.
Knightley, last seen on the West End stage playing a Hollywood actress in The Misanthrope, delivers her part – of a bobbed and tweeded 1930s schoolmistress falsely accused of having a lesbian affair – with a fine-boned bleakness. She is restrained and contained, at times to the point of vacancy, making some of her effects by tilting herself in the direction of the audience as if they were her camera.

Keira Knightley and Elisabeth Moss are reportedly in danger of being overshadowed by 26-year-old newcomer Bryony Hannah in a new West End production. According to The Sunday Telegraph, theatre fans attending the previews of The Children's Hour preferred Hannah's performance to those of the top-billed stars. One audience member said that Knightley and Mad Men star Moss were "not stage actresses. They looked uncomfortable (more)...
