“A young family with two preteen kids — a son and a daughter —stop their car at a roadside gas station across from a large, unusual hill while on a family trip in Tijuana. The two kids, Sara (Michele Garcia) and Adolfo (Alan Martinez), explore the hill on their own, only to vanish into thin air. The following day, they return to their distraught parents, seemingly unharmed, and claiming to have gotten lost in a dark cave on the slope.
While father Félix (Francisco Barreiro) is relieved to have the children back, mother Sol (Laura Caro) soon starts to notice that something isn’t quite right with Sara and Adolfo, who are acting sullen, avoiding school and freaking out their babysitter. As these domestic troubles take on an increasingly supernatural cast,...

Director Adrián García Bogliano impressed many horror fans — including this one — with 2011′s slow-burn occult thriller Penumbra and the filmmaker recently wrapped his first English language feature, the werewolf film Late Phases. But from today, terror freaks will be able to check out his first, post-Penumbra movie, the Mexico-shot Here Comes the Devil, which can be viewed at select cinemas and via VOD and iTunes.
Francisco Barreiro and Laura Caro play parents whose two children disappear while exploring a mountainside near Tijuana with predictably horrific — if otherwise decidedly unpredictable — consequences.

Lock Your Souls Up: Bogliano’s Latest a Decent But Frayed Exercise
Adrian Garcia Bogliano’s tenth feature film, Here Comes the Devil finally shows the Argentinean horrormeister beginning to hone his craft to create something that at last contains some cinematic virtue. Perhaps it helps that he has left his native country for Tijuana, Mexico to tell this devilish tale of the supernatural. Although it appears to have been shackled together and definitely would have been better served with some better editing, acting, and reshoots, there’s a promise here of something more defined, and, all squabbles aside, the film is entirely watchable.
Shuddering us into an exploitative lesbian sex scene, all loud and brassy before quickly making way for some bloody violence, the gears are quickly switched to a more languid pace as we meet a family on a trip to Tijuana. Sol (Laura Caro) and Felix (Francisco Barreiro...

Do you like your satanic possessions with a little Mexican kick? If that’s the case, you just might want to check out Adrián García Bogliano’s Spanish-language horror film Here Comes The Devil – or more appropriately Here Cums The Devil. Any Todd & The Book Of Pure Evil fans in the house? Remember that song “Horny Like The Devil” from their first musical episode? I remember laughing at the song based on pure comedic merits, because we don’t know really know how horny the Devil is – until now. In what is essentially a softcore porn mixed with Children of the Corn, Bogliano offers a sadistic and sexually-vitalized take on the possession sub-genre, delivering creepy kids driving their parents mad.
While on a family vacation, Felix (Francisco Barreiro) and Sol (Laura Caro) let their children go explore a hill on their own, but the situation becomes serious when neither return.

Horror movies punish the sexually irresponsible; the Spanish-language film Here Comes the Devil manages to indict a married couple with that slasher-movie charge.
Felix (Francisco Barreiro) and Sol (Laura Caro) let their preteen children wander off one afternoon, guiltily grabbing a little mommy-and-daddy private time. The kids go missing but return the next morning, outwardly fine. There's some evidence of trauma, though, possibly more than a night lost in the wilderness might cause.

We recently showcased the first poster for Argentinian filmmaker Adrián García Bogliano’s Here Comes the Devil, a film I was lucky enough to see, back in 2012, when it had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. While I was somewhat lukewarm in my review, Here Comes the Devil is still one of the most interesting horror films in recent memory. This coming of age tale of demonic possession, sexual awakening and suspected child abuse often feels like an homage to Peter Weir’s masterpiece Picnic at Hanging Rock. There is a ton of interesting themes and ideas present in the film, but it also suffers from sloppy editing, a low budget and some questionable cinematography. With that said, I do recommend any fan of the horror genre to seek it out. Here Comes the Devil hits on demand and in theatres December 13.
