Exclusive: Skydance has taken on the challenge of turning the bestselling YA fantasy novel series Ranger’s Apprentice into a live action film, with the hope it can become a franchise. Skydance has gotten control of the John Flanagan book series, and has closed a big deal with Hidden Figures helmer Ted Melfi to adapt, direct, and produce the film. Kim Quinn will also be producer.
Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger will produce alongside Melfi and Quinn. Flanagan will be executive producer, and Matt Grimm will oversee for Skydance.
I’ve heard that Melfi has made a deal worth high 7-figures if the movie gets made. His task will be to take the first two volumes – The Ruins of Gorlan & The Burning Bridge – and get a franchise off the ground that focuses on an orphan named Will who becomes an apprentice to a group of mysterious protectors known as the Rangers.

On July 10, opening day for the summer’s first major action flick, “The Old Guard” director Gina Prince-Bythewood took her two sons, who are 16 and 19, up to Sunset Boulevard to see her first Netflix billboard. “The Old Guard” marks the UCLA track star’s biggest budget yet after such modest hits as “Love & Basketball” (2000), “The Secret Life of Bees” (2008), and “Beyond the Lights” (2014).
The director made that backstage musical romance for just $7 million, after she insisted on casting emerging Gugu Mbatha-Raw over a star like Beyoncé, as a biracial singer who tries to break free from her overbearing stage mom (Minnie Driver). That meant that Relativity Media, not Sony, released the independent film — with a smaller marketing spend. But Prince-Bythewood made the movie her way. She always does.

The wait between Mission: Impossible II and III was roughly six years. It took around five years for Ghost Protocol to come after the last installment. Now, less than four years after Brad Bird's film does Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation come to the screen. In descending fashion, though, it looks like the wait between July 31's new movie and Mission: Impossible VI will be even shorter, as plans to make the Tom Cruise sequel apparently are already happening. No confirmation has come from the studio yet, and none of the stars are attached if this is true, but The Tracking Board has the exclusive on the sequel news. J.J. Abrams, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Cruise would all return to produce, as they did for the last three installments, with Don Granger and Matt Grimm attached as executive producers and Elizabeth Raposo to oversee development. Additionally, it's expected...

The fifth installment of Mission: Impossible hasn.t even hit theaters, but it looks like the next film in the series is already under way. With the continuing success in the franchise it comes as no surprise that Tom Cruise will be taking on yet another impossible mission, but with more than two months left until Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation hits theaters, it is quite the quick turnaround. Obviously details are very limited at this moment, as word rolls in that tentatively titled Mission: Impossible 6 is only recently underway. The Tracking Board first broke the news that the franchise has apparently already set a new film in motion with Tom Cruise back to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt. The publication also noted that Cruise is returning to produce along with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and J.J. Abrams. Don Granger and Matt Grimm are set as executive producers ...

Considering the high-octane action sequel Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which stars superstar Tom Cruise (Edge Of Tomorrow) alongside an ensemble cast that includes Jeremy Renner (Avengers: Age Of Ultron), Simon Pegg (Star Trek), Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible), Rebecca Ferguson (Hercules), and Alec Baldwin (The Departed), hasn't even opened yet, this new report may be a tad premature, but according to The Tracking Board, Paramount may already be in the early stages of developing Mission: Impossible 6, which is expected to round out the new trilogy that started with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. Cruise, J.J. Abrams, David Ellison, and Dana Goldberg are all back on as producers for the sixth film with Don Granger and Matt Grimm serving as executive producers and Elizabeth Raposo overseeing development. Could a sixth film in the "Mission: Impossible" series already be in the works?
The Tracking Board reports that Paramount is wasting no time in keeping the momentum of its "Mission: Impossible" franchise going with a follow-up to this coming July's fifth film "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" said to already be in development.
Early word of mouth on Christopher McQuarrie's 'Rogue Nation' is said to be strong with Paramount, Bad Robot and Skydance all apparently very impressed with the results.
Tom Cruise, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and J.J. Abrams are all expected to return as producers and Don Granger and Matt Grimm will be back as executive producers.
None of the cast members are officially set, but it would not be a shock to say the likes of Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and some of the others will be locks to return.
