The 2024 presidential race already has its first candidate to drop out: Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.
The GOP contender announced on Tuesday that he was suspending his campaign, which failed to gain traction amid a large field of alternatives to front runner Donald Trump. Suarez failed to qualify for the first presidential debate last week, something that also may prove to be a reckoning for other candidates absent from the stage.
“While I have decided to suspend my campaign for President, my commitment to making this a better nation for every American remains,” Suarez said in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I will continue to amplify the voices of the Hispanic community – the fastest-growing voting group in our country. The Left has taken Hispanics for granted for far too long, and it is no surprise that so many are finding a home in America’s conservative movement.

“Welcome to the psychedelic twenties.”
This is how Rick Doblin, founder and president of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (Maps), greeted a packed crowd on the opening morning of Psychedelic Science 2023 in Denver last week, dressed in a loose white suit befitting a guru. Billed as the largest-ever gathering of its kind — more than 12,000 attendees, according to Doblin — the conference brought together scientists, therapists, activists, entrepreneurs, and creatives bound together by what more than one speaker referred to as a mycelial network, or the threads that connect a collective fungal organism.

A conference in Denver will be hosted to speak about psychedelics after Colorado joined Oregon in making psychedelic mushrooms legal.
It has been estimated that around 10,000 people will attend the conference.
The conference will be led by a psychedelic advocacy group that has put together a panel of speakers. The panel is made up of people you wouldn’t typically expect to speak at this kind of event.
Aaron Rodgers, Jaden Smith and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry are some of the guest speakers.
Rodgers is an NFL quarterback who is set to play with the New York Jets, which he recently just joined, after playing for the Green Bay Packers for years. He has been open about using psychedelics, specifically ayahuasca. Ayahuasca is psychedelic that contains Dmt and originates from South America. It is a type of brew made from different plants.

The Duggar family is under the spotlight thanks to the 2023 docuseries, Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets. The miniseries exposes the Institute in Basic Life Principles — better known as Iblp — and how the religious teachings shaped the Duggar family’s values. Bill Gothard is the Iblp leader. So, where is Gothard in 2023? Here’s what to know.

Bill Gothard founded the Institute in Basic Life Principles — the ultra-conservative Christian organization made famous by the Duggar family. A tent full of celebrities and movie executives in a beautiful setting gave hope for filmmaking this weekend. No, not the Indie Spirits — this was another tent, 1,300 miles away.
The Texas Film Awards took place March 3 on Willie Nelson’s famous Luck, Texas ranch, outside Austin. Under its canopy, open to the crisp Hill Country air, Jonathan Majors, Margo Martindale, John and Janet Pierson, and Mike De Luca were inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame by presenters including Luke Wilson, “Justified” creator Graham Yost, and Kevin Smith. Surprising nobody, Jason Sudeikis (“Ted Lasso”) just took home his first-ever Emmy Award on Sunday night. (See the winner’s list.) His 2021 Emmys win for “Ted Lasso” on Apple TV Plus was expected because he had already claimed victories at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice and SAG Awards. Now Sudeikis is in the coveted Best Comedy Actor Emmy club, which just so happens to include his former “Saturday Night Live” co-star Bill Hader, who prevailed twice for HBO’s “Barry.”

Between 2005 and 2013, Sudeikis and Hader yucked it up each and every weekend on “SNL.” In addition to playing silly characters like “Appalachian Emergency Room’s” hillbilly cousins, they also satirized 2012 Presidential candidates Mitt Romney (Sudeikis) and Rick Perry (Hader). After leaving the late-night sketch show, the funny guys had a mini-reunion on “The Angry Birds Movie” and its sequel where they voiced Red and Leonard,...

It’s an exaggeration to say that the future of human civilization depends on Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm’s charm and persuasiveness. But not by much. She has become the face of President Biden’s climate and clean-energy push – in the last two weeks, alone, she’s been to Houston, West Virginia, and Las Vegas, making the case for why Congress needs to pass the American Jobs Plan, a $2 trillion infrastructure package that would re-tool America for the end of fossil fuels and the beginning of the climate crisis. It’s another unpleasant week of news including the most devastating winter storm that hit the country — especially Texas. During the first part of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver unpacked the “full-blown humanitarian crisis” happening in Texas as the state was facing no electricity, lack of clean water and dozens of deaths.
True to form, Fox News blamed the power outages during the Texas storm on green energy, specifically frozen wind turbines. Tucker Carlson was adamant about this, saying that green energy means a less reliable power grid. He punctuated that with “it’s science!”
Oliver responded to Carlson’s thoughts by pointing out how his advertisers basically include “a man in a sexual relationship with a pillow”. He also dragged Carlson saying, “just because you loudly insist that something ‘is science’! doesn’t make it science…that’s science”
He continued, “Finally, calling windmills silly fashion accessories is just absurd.

The Nielsen ratings for the second night of Rachel Maddow’s interview with Lev Parnas Thursday on MSNBC fell short of Wednesday’s record-breaking viewership (4.5 million viewers), notching down slightly at 4.3 million.
But it was the third most-watched program in the history of “The Rachel Maddow Show.”
In the key adult 25 to 54 demographic, Thursday’s continuation of the Parnas interview on “Maddow” drew 745,000, beating Fox News and CNN. In total viewers in the 9 p.m. hour, “Maddow’s” 4.3 million meant the program beat “Hannity” (3.9 million) by that measurement as well. “Maddow” was the sixth most-watched show on television Thursday night.
The interviews on “Maddow” aired the week the impeachment of Donald Trump has moved to the Senate, when the arguments over whether there will be new evidence presented there have reached a fever pitch. Parnas is a former associate of Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani. He and Igor Fruman...

The House Judiciary Committee announced the next event in the impeachment of President Donald Trump – a hearing on Dec. 4 that will center on the constitutional grounds for removing the president.
The broadcast and cable networks have not yet announced their plans, but the hearing likely will get the same amount of coverage as that of last week’s House Intelligence Committee inquiry, which featured five days of witness testimony. ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS each pre-empted regular daytime programming to air the hearings.
The hearing will have a different set of figures presiding – Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) chairs the Judiciary Committee, and Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) is its ranking member. But the surroundings will look familiar: The hearing will be held in the same Longworth Office Building room as the Intelligence hearings, a space that is regularly used by the Ways and Means Committee. According to Rick Perry and Nikki Haley, we can thank God for bringing us, possibly, the most corrupt president America has ever seen. On Sunday, soon-to-be former Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, told Fox News viewers that President Trump is “The Chosen One.”

Something was being cooked in the Ukraine matter, according to impeachment inquiry testimony from Dr. Fiona Hill, a former official at the National Security Council specializing in Soviet, Russian and European affairs.

The House impeachment inquiry into President Donald J. Trump is again being broadcast live this week, with three days of public hearings. This week’s hearings began on Tuesday, November 19 and will end on Thursday, November 21. There will be a total of five hearings this week, taking place in both the morning and the afternoon.
Investigators for the House of Representatives are looking into whether Trump abused his public office for private gain, specifically in his dealings with Ukraine. From attempting to pressure the Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky into investigating former Vice President Joe Biden for corruption and asking Zelensky to investigate the conspiracy theory that it was Ukraine than interfered in the 2016 election — on behalf of Hillary Clinton’s campaign — to White House officials concealing records of phone correspondence on July 25 between Trump and Zelensky, a number of government officials already testified about these impeachable offenses to Congress behind closed doors.

I actually suggested Kel Mitchell as a possible cast member for “Dancing with the Stars” this past spring, and they must have taken my advice because he’s competing in the upcoming 28th season of the series. It begins on September 16, but before Mitchell and his competitors hit the dance floor, let’s consider his pros and cons.

Pros
Mitchell does have the nostalgia factor going for him: Millennials who grew up watching him on Nickelodeon in the 1990s might tune in and vote to see him again. He started out as a series regular on the long-running kids’ sketch comedy series “All That,” which led to him and co-star Kenan Thompson getting their own sitcom, “Kenan & Kel.” They even got to star in their own movie, “Good Burger” (1997), which was based on a popular “All That” sketch. “Dancing with the Stars” has been getting dragged online — even by its own host — for its decision to cast former White House press secretary Sean Spicer in season 28. For several months in 2017 it was his job to back up Donald Trump‘s litany of falsehoods and disinformation. Most of the readers we polled aren’t happy about it either, but are they planning to watch anyway, or will they boycott the show in response. Scroll down to see our complete poll results.
Almost two-thirds of our poll respondents (64%) said they’re not happy about Spicer being selected as a contestant on the show. Of those, 28% say they’ll tune into the show anyway. But 36% declare that they refuse to watch it. Another 19% of readers told us that they don’t mind Spicer’s invitation to the ballroom one way or the other. That leaves only 17% who are actually enthusiastic about his participation.

ABC faced backlash this week after casting former White House press secretary Sean Spicer on “Dancing with the Stars.” But that outrage might actually spice up the dancing competition’s dwindling ratings — particularly in Trump Country.
“Dancing with the Stars” has faced a relatively alarming decline in ratings over the past two cycles, falling 32% among adults 18-49 last season — from an average of 1.37 in 2017 to 0.93 in 2018 season. The show was in need of a shot in the arm, and the attention over Spicer’s attachment could attract more of the show’s biggest fans.
That’s because, according to Nielsen data obtained by Variety, the region of the country in which “Dancing with the Stars” performs strongest also happens to be one that is a reliable geographic stronghold for Spicer’s former employer: Red-state America.

“Dancing with the Stars” has featured controversial contestants before, from Geraldo Rivera to Ryan Lochte to Tonya Harding, but with the newly announced casting of former White House press secretary Sean Spicer, even the show’s host Tom Bergeron is distancing himself from the decision. “Some thoughts about today,” he posted on Twitter, followed by a statement in regard to the cast announcement. On the August 21 edition of “Good Morning America,” “Dancing with the Stars” announced the celebrities who will enter the ballroom for season 28 starting on September 16. They are as follows:

— Ray Lewis (NFL football player)
— Kate Flannery

— Lamar Odom (NBA basketball player)
— Kel Mitchell

The show has featured right-wing political figures before, from Tucker Carlson (white nationalism denier on Fox News) to Rick Perry (currently in charge of Us nukes), but it may be especially controversial now after the summer...

Attorney General William Barr has ordered the Bureau of Prisons to schedule executions for five federal inmates in the next six months, the first time in more than 16 years that the federal government will use capital punishment. The Department of Justice announced Barr’s order in a statement on Thursday.
“Under Administrations of both parties, the Department of Justice has sought the death penalty against the worst criminals, including these five murderers, each of whom was convicted by a jury of his peers after a full and fair proceeding,” Barr said.

President Donald Trump had a busy week, John Oliver noted on Last Week Tonight. He lied about where is dad was born, for no apparent reason. He repeatedly said “oranges” when he was trying to say “origins” at a White House event. He trolled Joe Biden for touching women inappropriately, which, Oliver noted accurately, “seems, you know, a bit fucking rich.”
But Trump’s biggest headline of the week by far was selecting Herman Cain to the Federal Reserve board.
Oliver and Cain go way back – to Oliver’s The Daily Show days.
Cain, a former pizza exec turned radio talk show host, made a White House bid in 2012, dropping out amid charges of sexual harassment. He’s famous for having asked a group of Cuban Americans, on a campaign stop, “How do you say ‘delicious’ in Cuban.” He once bragged about not knowing the name of the “the president of Ubeki-beki-beki-stan-stan.

At a rally in Ohio this week, President Donald Trump went after a familiar target: the late Senator John McCain. “I have to be honest, I never liked him much,” the president told his crowd at the General Dynamics plant in Lima. “Probably never will.” (Trump seemed particularly galled that he never got a “thank you” for giving McCain “the kind of funeral that he wanted.”)
Baffling as the attack might seem to someone who wasn’t conditioned to years of Trump’s rambling, extemporaneous grievance-airings, the attack barely registered in Washington.

Updated with video: President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address was not a particularly good speech. But what it lacked in quality, it made up in length, Stephen Colbert said in his live Late Show after the speech.
“This speech was like watching paint lie,” Colbert quipped – in marked contrast to VladPutin, who opened the late-night program praising Trump, buts blasting Adam Levine’s Super Bowl performance [watch below].
The CBS late-night host admitted he had high hopes when, a few minutes before the address, CNN threw on screen the graphic “Trumps Leaves White House Soon.”
“Come on! That is not cool, CNN!” Colbert scolded.
Maybe the most alarming thing to come of Trump’s address, Colbert noted, was word Energy Secretary Rick Perry had been appointed the “designated survivor,” meaning Perry would be America’s government if a meteor took out everyone in the House chamber.
“Oops” Colbert said,...

Trevor Noah had an abundance of material Tuesday night for The Daily Show‘s live State of the Union episode.
The show titled State of the Union 2019: Uncancelled — Live aired shortly after President Donald Trump’s second State of the Union address.
During his opening monologue, Noah reminded viewers that the late-night show was “100% live.” He then joked about Trump’s speaking skills and lamented that the president’s necktie was crooked during his speech.
“Trump walked past 600 people, and not a single one of them had the balls to tell him,” Noah quipped about the president’s tie. “In fact, at some point, Mike Pence was like ‘This is the way ties should be from now on.'”
“I guess we should be grateful his fly wasn’t open,” he said.

Exclusive: Steve Bodow, executive producer of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, will be leaving after 16+ years with Comedy Central’s late-night franchise. He just informed the staff of the show of his decision.
Bodow’s departure is not imminent — he will stay on and help with transitional matters as well as work on a few more projects before leaving some time in the first quarter of 2019.
Bodow is one four executive producers on The Daily Show, along with Noah, Jennifer Flanz and Jill Katz. Bodow, Noah and Flanz have been overseeing creative, while Katz focuses on the production side. Kinky Friedman cracks a mischievous smile as a fan hands him a Kinky Friedman Talking Action Figure. Surrounded by a smattering of onlookers, Friedman, cigar in mouth, leans down and presses the button on the toy, a remnant from the country singer’s 2006 gubernatorial campaign in Texas.
“If you elect me the first Jewish governor of the state of Texas, I’ll reduce the speed limit to 54.95.”
“That one was hard to overcome,” Friedman, beaming, looks up and says before letting the action figure cycle through some of the irreverent Friedman campaign slogans.

The women are dropping like flies on “Dancing with the Stars,” and it’s about to reach historic proportions. In Gold Derby’s latest slugfest to discuss Trios Night, Joyce Eng notes, “I looked back and the only other time there have been four straight weeks of the same gender being eliminated was season 23 when it was four straight guys in the beginning, but there has never been five straight eliminations of the same gender. It could break a record next week … We could totally have a top six of just guys.” Eng was joined by Daniel Montgomery, Cordell Martin and Jeffrey Kare to discuss that dubious milestone and more. Watch above.

On abortion, as with everything, President Trump has no moral principles. He’s happy to side with anti-abortion activists if it will help rev up his base. During the campaign, he called for “some form of punishment” for women who chose abortion; he revived the global gag rule that strips U.S. funding from clinics abroad that provide abortions; and he nominated Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, a conservative who appears to have more experience with chugging beer than with defending the rights of women to have...

Pros
Schneider has been a fixture on the small screen since he was 17 years old when he won the role of Bo Duke on the hit CBS series, “The Dukes of Hazzard” (1979-1985), which made both him and co-star Tom Wopat household names. Then from 2001-2006, Schneider played Jonathan Kent (the adoptive father of Superman) for the first five seasons of the hit WB/CW series “Smallville,” which gives him two generations of fans to draw votes from.

There are plenty of films on display here at the Telluride Film Festival this weekend with strong political connections such as documentaries like Charles Ferguson’s multi-part Watergate – Or How We Learned To Stop An Out-of-Control President (any similarity to present-day is clearly intentional); Ed Zwick’s Trial By Fire which strongly advocates for changes in the Texas criminal justice system and is a movie former Governor and current Trump cabinet secretary Rick Perry will not be pleased with; Reversing Roe (an argument against politicizing abortion); and even Universal’s Neil Armstrong film, First Man which caused an absurdly ridiculous dust-up on the internet (from Marco Rubio among others who haven’t seen it) that it was not paying proper respect to the planting of the American flag on the moon.
The latter is truly an absurd, politically motivated charge for a superb film from director Damien Chazelle that, otherwise,...

“Keep politicians off ‘DWTS’!” That’s what a whopping 48% of fans said when we asked if fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson should join a future season of ABC’s reality TV show “Dancing with the Stars.” However, the results of our poll weren’t unanimous, as 37% voted “Yes — he’d make for great TV!” The other 15% were non-committal, saying “Let me think about it.” Do You think Tillerson should be cast on “DWTS”? Sound off down in the comments section.

When Trump fired acting Attorney General Sally Yates for refusing to implement his shoddily written immigration ban barring citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries, Bee said, “it was the language of her firing that sent a chill down people’s spines.” Words like “loyalty” and “betrayal” are often used by autocrats, as Joe Scarborough of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” points out.
