Hayden Christensen, who has played Anakin Skywalker in various Star Wars movies and series, has signed with Independent Artist Group for representation.
The actor famously nabbed the coveted part of the heroic-yet-tragic young man who would become Darth Vader in George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and concluded his fall from grace with Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
Seventeen years later, he reprised his role for the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, a massive hit for the streamer, and the recently finished Ahsoka, which also proved to be a hit.
The signing with Iag is a full-circle moment as it sees the actor reteaming with the person who signed him as he was ascending with Star Wars back in the early 2000s. Iag CEO Jim Osborne signed the Canadian thespian with iconic agent Ed Limato when the two reps were at ICM...

The consolidation in the talent representation space continues. Agency for the Performing Arts and music touring agency Artist Group International (Agi) are merging, with the combined full-service agency rebranded as Independent Artist Group (Iag). APA President Jim Osborne is being named CEO of Iag, with Dennis Arfa, founder and CEO of Agi, as Chairman of the Music Division of Iag. Former longtime APA CEO Jim Gosnell will serve on the board of Agi alongside Osborne and Arfa.
Agi was founded 35 years ago by Arfa and acquired by Ron Burkle’s Yucaipa Entertainment in 2012. The client roster that it brings to Iag includes Billy Joel, Metallica, Def Leppard, Rod Stewart, Motley Crue, Linkin Park, Jane’s Addiction, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Norah Jones, Neil Young, The Strokes, Smashing Pumpkins, Ghost and Elvis Costello.
Jim Osborne and Dennis Arfa
The merger, which had been rumored for awhile, stems from an agreement between APA and Yucaipa Entertainment.

Agency for the Performing Arts, which has aggressively expanded its agent count in the last few years, and Artist Group International, one of the biggest touring agencies in the music space, have merged to form a new full-service talent firm that is seeking to take on CAA and WME in the representation space.
The combined company will be renamed Independent Artist Group and have Jim Osborne, the current president of APA, as its CEO. Dennis Arfa, the founder and CEO of Agi, has been named chairman of the music division. The new positions take effect immediately.
The merger occurs with Yucaipa Entertainment, owned by billionaire Ron Burkle, as the conduit. Burkle bought Agi in 2012 and has been financing APA since 2020. (Burkle also has stakes in several other separate music and sports agencies.)

Derek Luke always knew he wanted to be a hero — or rather, play one. But when the opportunity for him to join the Marvel universe arose in 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” he wasn’t so sure — even after his agent, the late Ed Limato, insisted.
“If he sent me something, he would say, ‘Do you like it? Alright we’ll get him next time, kiddo, no pressure,’” Luke says. “This was the only script that he said, ‘You need to do this. And I’m like, ‘No. Absolutely not. First of all, Marvel, like, what is that?’”
Limato was firm, so Luke took a meeting with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige. Upon entering his office, Luke’s eyes were drawn to a section of the wall full of Black characters, ones he didn’t even know existed. Luke leaned in and took the role.

Actor Nicolas Cage has recalled the bizarre trend inspired by 1987 romantic comedy ‘Moonstruck’, which he starred in with ‘Believe’ hitmaker Cher.
Speaking to ‘Entertainment Tonight’, he said: “For the longest time, back from ‘Moonstruck’, I would walk to the airport and people just had a habit of saying, ‘Snap out of it!’ from Moonstruck – the Cher ‘snap out of it’ (line) – and I did get slapped a few times.”
He added: “Oh yeah, I did! And that, you know, it’s part of the job.”
When it comes to why fans felt compelled to act in such a way, Cage joked they might have been aiming for a role.
He said: “I think maybe (they think) I’ll cast them in something. Who knows?”
The actor said he almost turned down the movie but agreed to take the role in a deal with his agent because he actually wanted to...

Enjoying renewed interest from all corners in Hollywood due to his praised performance in the 2021 indie thriller Pig, Nicolas Cage has entered what can only be called a renaissance.
After years of making indies, the actor is in demand for live-action studio films for the first time since 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. While he had done occasional studio voice work, with such as films as The Croods and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, he returned in earnest with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, a meta action movie released in April by Lionsgate in which Cage plays an actor named Nick Cage. Then he booked a chewy role as Dracula in Universal’s upcoming vampire thriller Renfield. Sources tell THR that the actor was paid 7 million to lead Massive Talent and received close to 3 million for Renfield for a supporting role.

Almost nine months to the day after the surprise Deadline scoop that CAA would acquire ICM Partners, the deal finally got government approval and closed. This creates a mega agency in the biggest linkup in the space since the Wma-Endeavor merger. Sources close to the situation said the Department of Justice finally approved the deal late last night or this morning, and it closed. It is valued around 750 million, and a combined enterprise value around 5 billion. The merged company’s leadership is expected to address staff at a town hall Thursday, with the newly combined departments set to begin their integration process with get-togethers on July 11, we hear.
First, though, comes the pain.
Around 105 positions will be eliminated, all from ICM, and coming from all areas. There will be 425 ICM agents and staffers from the agency joining CAA, meaning around 80 will be retained by CAA. These conversations will happen quickly.

Bevy Smith is opening up in her new memoir “Bevelations: Lessons From a Mutha, Auntie, Bestie.” And it’s the perfect companion to start off a new year. The book, to be released on Jan. 12 (and published by Andy Cohen‘s imprint with Henry Holt & Co.), documents her transformation in her late 30s from a magazine advertising exec — she was a powerhouse at Vibe and Rolling Stone — to a television and pop culture personality. “I think the main ‘bevelation’ of the book is it gets greater later,” Smith tells me during a Zoom call from her Harlem apartment. “I want people to understand that no matter what your age is, and no matter what your circumstances are, you have the ability to chase your passions and to dare to dream. You really do.”

Gibson had been at CAA, but left after the exit of his primary agents Jack Whigham and Michael Cooper. They went to Range Media Partners. Gibson moved to APA to join president Jim Osborne, who started his career as one of iconic ICM agent Ed Limato’s protege assistants. Limato was Gibson’s agent forever. Gibson went with Limato to WME but parted company with the agency after Limato died, in the wake of controversial comments the actor/director made at a troubled period in his life. He spent several years regaining his footing when he was managed by former CAA honcho Rick Nicita. When Nicita retired, Gibson went to CAA.

Exclusive: Robert Downey Jr, and Team Downey, his production company with wife Susan Downey, has just moved to Wme, which will rep them in all areas.
Downey Jr had been repped by CAA, and thus ends one of the most lucrative and prolific decade-long runs any actor has had with an agency in recent memory. That covers the period when Downey Jr. blew away all comers to win the role of Iron Man, becoming the signature player in an unprecedented decade of success for Marvel Studios. It also created a situation where the actor was making in the vicinity of $50 million-$70 million each time he donned the metal suit in numerous spinoffs and Avengers films, a run that ended in Avengers: Endgame, the highest grossing film of all time. At the same time, he headlined the billion dollar-grossing Sherlock Holmes franchise and got an Oscar nomination for 2009’s Tropic Thunder.

Robert Downey Jr. and his production banner, Team Downey, have exited CAA and signed with Wme for representation in all areas, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Downey had spent the last decade at CAA, joining the agency after the death of his longtime agent, Ed Limato, in 2010. Limato had been been a fixture at ICM for almost 20 years, then later joined Wme.

Thirty years ago, a killing machine from 2029—assuming the form of an Austrian bodybuilder—arrived with a lethal directive to alter the future. That he certainly did. The Terminator, made for $6.4 million by a couple of young disciples of B-movie king Roger Corman, became one of the defining sci-fi touchstones of all time. Lots of films are dedicated to, or in memory of someone. But it's not always clear why. We've been finding out...
Back when Breaking Bad returned for its final batch of episodes in August 2013, it had a dedication at the end of it. The card read 'Dedicated to our friend Kevin Cordasco'. As it turned out, Kevin Cordasco was a 16-year old who had been battling cancer for seven years, who had met both Bryan Cranston and Vince Gilligan. Cordasco died before he could ever get to see the episode dedicated to him.
I found this such a moving story, that it got me wondering about the dedications that appear on films, and what the story behind them was. After all, the dedications are there for a reason. What I uncovered was some funny stories, mainly extremely sad ones, and some extremely moving dedications.

When Brit director Julian Farino landed a script on Hollywood's "black list", his life took a strange turn
I was leaving the schoolyard, having dropped off my boys, when my mobile, or should I say cellphone, rang. "Hey Julian, it's Ed. Ed Limato. My client loves your movie. My client wants to be in your movie. My client is Richard Gere. We should talk, no?"
I had never spoken to Ed Limato before, but I knew of him as a legendary Hollywood agent. Mel Gibson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Denzel Washington, Steve Martin… he was an old-school giant. One of the biggest players in town. The fact that he should be ringing me (how did he get my number?), an outsider from London who started on Coronation Street, struck me in that 'how did I get here?' way. Am I really doing this whole thing in Hollywood?

Flight marks the first live action movie Robert Zemeckis has directed since the year 2000, when he made What Lies Beneath and Cast Away. But moreover, it is that rare film which Hollywood never seems to greenlight enough of these days: a difficult drama with complex (and potentially unlikable) characters.
It says a lot that Zemeckis and Denzel Washington, who stars as airline pilot Whip Whitaker, could get a movie like this made today when studios are typically more interested in the next big franchise to exploit.
The movie follows Captain Whitaker as the plane he flies suddenly goes into a dive. Somehow, he ends up landing it in a field and saving just about everybody on board. An investigation into the crash soon follows however, and Whitaker is discovered to have had alcohol in his system while flying.

Hurd quickly rose to fame in Hollywood after penning and producing the 1984 sci-fi/action classic The Terminator; soon after, she produced several more projects alongside James Cameron including Aliens, The Abyss, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day as well as countless projects like Bad Dreams, Alien Nation, Tremors, The Relic, Dante's Peak, Armageddon and the underrated cult comedy Dick.
Hurd's days now are consumed by zombies as she is currently one of the executive producers on AMC's wildly successful series "The Walking Dead." Exclusive: Troy Zien has become a talent manager at 3 Arts Entertainment. He most recently worked on the Hasbro account for former Wme agent John Fogelman’s venture, and certainly has a familiarity with handling talent. Zien spent eight years as an agent, working his way from the ICM mailroom–where he trained under the late Ed Limato–and transitioned to Wma/Wme in 2005. He was part of the agent team that repped Richard Gere, Robert Downey Jr., Thomas Haden Church, Kevin Connolly, Winona Ryder, Josh Holloway, Olivia Wilde, Ray Liotta and Thomas Jane. “Troy’s relationships and unique business experience will position him well to be a valued talent manager,” said 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg. “He has a reputation of being extremely hands on with the artists he has worked for and we are excited to have him here.” Zien’s client list is yet to be determined.

4:20 Pm Update: I've just learned that WME Entertainment actually fired Mel Gibson the day before his longtime Hollywood agent Ed Limato's death last weekend. I'm told what happened is that the news media reported last week there was a tape of Mel Gibson making a racial slur. And last Friday, WME board member Ari Emanuel "woke up at 3 a.m. and emailed his partner Patrick Whitesell that 'we can't represent a guy who said the N-word'." So the agency dumped Mel Gibson on July 2nd, and the next day, on July 3rd, his agent Limato died. Today the 2-minute recording was released by [...]...

Hollywood talent agent Ed Limato died Saturday at home in Beverly Hills. He was 73. He had been in and out of Cedar Sinai in recent months. For a dozen years Limato was the star of the talent department at Icm, where his elegant office boasted two gorgeous framed French one-sheets for From Here to Eternity and The Lady From Shanghai and a giant tropical aquarium whose fish he knew by name, fussed over by three good-looking assistants he called "the boys." Over the years he repped Denzel Washington, Dennis Quaid, Sharon Stone, Nic Cage, Richard Gere (for 40 years, signed before he did Grease on stage), Steve Martin and Mel Gibson. Invites to Limato's annual Friday night tented Oscar party were hot tickets; he never ...

Hollywood talent agent Ed Limato, a powerful industry player for more than three decades, died July 3 of lung disease at his Beverly Hills home. He was 73.
Limato had been hospitalized repeatedly in recent months for undisclosed medical reasons at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Most recently with Wme, Limato has repped some of the highest-profile actors in the business, including Richard Gere, Denzel Washington, Steve Martin and the frequently embattled Mel Gibson.
Though much of his career was spent at Icm, Limato left that agency in summer 2007 during a restructuring shake-up to join former colleagues at Wma, where he had worked from 1978-88.
When that company merged with Endeavor last year, he stayed on and made the transition to the new Wme.
Wme said in a statement, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague Ed Limato. He was the consummate agent, launching the careers of some...

Ed Limato can officially leave ICM and take his clients with him, if they choose, a Los Angeles arbitrator ruled Monday in a closely watched case pitting the veteran Hollywood agent against one of the industry's top agencies.
"I'm a free man with no obligations to ICM," Limato said. "I'm free to go where I choose. I've never been happier in my life. I feel I've been vindicated."

Toni Howard has been named the new head of motion picture talent at ICM. She replaces Carol Bodie, who stepped down and continues to be a senior agent at ICM.
The move comes as the agency continues its restructuring while negotiating the departure of agency co-president Ed Limato and follows a series of promotions and dismissals.
Howard, who has been with company since 1991, is one of the highest-ranking female agents in a male-dominated field. Her clients include Halle Berry, Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, Christopher Walken and Laura Linney.
The promotion signals that ICM is shoring up its film side and is interested in keeping its top agents from exiting with Limato.
Doug MacLaren and Nick Reed remain co-heads of the motion picture literary department.
Howard was head of ICM's motion picture talent department in 1999.

Even as it continues to negotiate the departure of former agency co-president Ed Limato, ICM has dismissed three agents and promoted another as it continues its restructuring process.
Let go were Matt Eskander and Richard Konigsberg from the motion picture talent department as well as DJ Talbot from the agency's motion picture lit division.
Justin Deanda has been promoted to a motion picture talent agent working with music clients. ICM represents such acts as Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown and Ne-Yo.
The three agents who are leaving were former assistants of Limato, which prompted talk of a Limato purge among his loyalists. Deanda, however, also was a Limato assistant.
ICM has been undergoing an institutional shift since Rivzi Traverse Management and Merrill Lynch acquired a majority interest in the agency in 2005, and the company acquired the Broder Webb Chervin Silbermann Agency last year.
ICM had been known as an agency of many camps and personalities, despite its collection of teams, but "the fiefdom mentality is out the door," one agency source said.

Ed Limato, who has spent more than 30 years and two stints at ICM during a career in which he has become one of Hollywood's top talent agents, is in the process of negotiating his exit from the agency.
ICM said Friday that Limato is no longer serving as its co-president, though it added that he remained at the company as a motion picture agent.
Limato's current status is in play, though, as the two sides battle over the terms of his separation in what could become an acrimonious dispute.
Although Limato has not made any decisions about his future, he has signaled his determination to remain in the agency business, and has said that he would like to take his list of high-profile clients with him to one of ICM's competitors.
Under the terms of his contract, ICM could insist on exercising a noncompete clause, retaining Limato's services as a consultant, which would keep his clients at the agency. That doesn't appear to be the key issue at the moment, however, with the agency expecting Limato to leave with a number of his clients.
Instead, the major issue has become current and future commissions, including projects currently in negotiations, and how they will be divided between Limato and the agency.
If a settlement can't be reached, the two sides would be forced to move on to an arbitration hearing by Aug. 1.
Limato, who was at his ICM office Friday, was not available for comment.

Actress/singer Jennifer Lopez has sacked her agents at top Hollywood firm International Creative Management (ICM) in an attempt to boost her film career. The Monster-in-Law actress left ICM for the third time on Friday, after reportedly being unhappy with the movie projects she had been cast in. A source tells PageSix.com, "(Former agent) Ed Limato didn't do anything for her in over a year. He got her into Dallas - a TV remake that will probably flop. She is doing Oscar-winning work in Bordertown. She should not be doing Dallas." Lopez has signed with the William Morris Agency, who will look after both her film and music careers.
