“13 Reasons Why” star Dylan Minnette says his pivot from acting to focus solely on his rock band, Wallows, happened when acting began to feel like “just a job.”
“I was fortunate to find success in it — I was on ’13 Reasons Why’ and it was really popular and definitely reached a peak so far in what I’ve had in acting. But it also started to feel like a bit of a job,” Minnette said in an interview on the Zach Sang Show of his shift to music. “I was in a very fortunate position where it was always fun for me, always really inspiring, but then … it was just starting to feel like just a job.”
Minnette, who leads Wallows alongside band members Braeden Lemasters, and Cole Preston, explained that music and Wallows reflects a “passion that we’ve always had as a group to really take all the way,...

13 Reasons Why alum Dylan Minnette has one big reason why he walked away from his acting career. “[I’ve done] it for so long — like, a really long time — and I was very fortunate to find success in it,” Minnette said in a new Zach Sang Show episode. “But [acting] also started to feel like a bit of a job.” Minnette got his start as a child star, with a guest spot on Two and a Half Men in 2005 and a recurring role on Prison Break that started that same year. Between 2017 and 2020, he starred in the Netflix hit 13 Reasons Why. But he hasn’t been seen on screen since his 2022 arc on The Dropout, as he’s been focusing on his music career with the alt-rock band Wallows. Happy Model day! On Friday, Wallows released their third studio album Model, and celebrated its drop by sharing the video for the LP’s standout, “You (Show Me Where My Days Went).”
The Nina Ljeti-directed video sees the trio — Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters, and Cole Preston — throwing paint on walls, ripping off wallpaper, and demolishing the inside of an apartment, but with the destruction playing in reverse. At the start, the three guys stand inside a completely damaged apartment, and as the video continues, the room returns to its original state.

It’s been more than 13 years since Diablo Cody dared to sick “Jennifer’s Body” on the movie-going masses.

2022's "Scream 5" reinvigorated the horror franchise, which seemed to have ended with "Scream 4" in 2011. It was no small task, especially considering its legendary original director, Wes Craven, died in 2015. Its new directors, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett - the duo behind production company Radio Silence who made "Ready or Not" in 2019 - have openly expressed their love and loyalty to the Scream franchise, so while the new Scream films do explore new aspects of the horror genre to fit the 21st century, you can be sure they still have plenty of connections to the original films that fans will recognize almost immediately.

This post contains minor spoilers for "Scream VI."
The "Scream" franchise has moved beyond its original director Wes Craven, who sadly passed away in 2015 (leaving the horror guru's final feature film as 2011's "Scream 4"). However, that doesn't mean the new stewards of the series, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (collectively known as Radio Silence), are looking to forget him.
Quite the contrary; in 2022's "Scream" there is a scene that features a party honoring one of the victims of Ghostface, Wes Hicks (Dylan Minnette). In slyly clever fashion, the party allows the film and filmmakers to stage a tribute to Craven on a meta referential level, with the banner "For Wes" doubling as a dedication to the departed director.
The latest installment, "Scream VI," heavily features the series' new cast of characters and moves the action to New York City, yet the references to Craven are far from finished.

Half a dozen movies in, and the bloodletting hasn’t eased up — or gotten less popular. “Scream VI,” the latest installment in the long-running horror series, looks to slash its way to new opening weekend heights at the box office. Paramount is releasing the film in 3,670 North American theaters on Friday.
Based on early estimates, “Scream VI” is projected to debut to at least $35 million and as much as $40 million over the weekend. As of now, 2000’s “Scream 3” remains the franchise’s top opener with $34 million.
Records aside, the newest entry is expected to improve upon the start of last year’s hit “Scream” (not to be confused with 1996’s “Scream”), which scored a solid $30 million debut in January. By bringing back franchise stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette — and adding in newcomers Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega and Dylan Minnette — to the quiet town of Woodsboro, 2022’s...

What’s your favorite scary movie?
That is the question that kicked off the iconic “Scream” franchise way back in 1996. And the franchise is back, 11 years after the last installment (“Scream 4”) hit theaters. Yet again the sleepy town of Woodsboro is interrupted by a killer wearing a Ghostface mask, who is drawn to not only scary movies but folks who have a connection to the real-life murders that started it all.
What makes this new “Scream” unique is that it is the first to be produced since the death of filmmaker Wes Craven in 2015 at the age of 76. Instead, this installment is being overseen by the Radio Silence team of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and producer Chad Villella, who were responsible for 2019’s sleeper horror hit “Ready or Not.”
But how can you actually watch the latest entry in the celebrated horror series? And what else should you know about this new “Scream?...

Katherine Langford is setting her TV return with Starz‘s upcoming drama series The Venery of Samantha Bird. The 13 Reasons Why and Knives Out actress will take on the lead role in the eight-episode series created by Anna Moriarty, who is executive producing alongside showrunner Salvatore Stabile and Jessica Rhoades. Rachel Polan is attached as a co-executive producer, and Jessica Yu is serving as a consulting producer. Langford with Dylan Minnette in 13 Reasons Why (Credit: Netflix) The newly-greenlit title centers around Samantha Bird, a woman visiting family in New England who reconnects with her childhood sweetheart and falls headlong into a seemingly perfect storybook romance. Underneath it all, though, lurks an unsettling interpretation of this affair as The Venery of Samantha Bird is described as a haunting portrayal of addictive love and the repercussions a relationship has on families. “The Venery of Samantha Bird is the perfect complement to our slate of provocative,...

Best Limited/Movie Directing Emmy 2022: Mike White (‘The White Lotus’) vs. Danny Strong (‘Dopesick’)
At this year’s Emmys, the programs nominated for Best Limited/Movie Directing are similar to the corresponding writing category with “Impeachment: American Crime Story” being replaced by a second episode of “The Dropout.” Just like writing, this race is once again looking like a fight to see whether Mike White for “The White Lotus” can sustain the momentum after the season airing a year ago, or if Emmy favorite Danny Strong for “Dopesick” can steal his thunder.
Here are Gold Derby’s current Best Limited/Movie Directing Emmy 2022 racetrack odds:
“The White Lotus” (Mike White) – 7/2 odds
“Dopesick” (“The People vs. Purdue Pharma” by Danny Strong) — 4/1 odds

“Maid” (“Snaps” by John Wells) — 6/1 odds
“The Dropout” (“Iron Sisters” by Michael Showalter) — 13/2 odds

Reigning scream queen Neve Campbell isn’t returning to Woodsboro for “Scream 6.”
Campbell, who plays the perpetually targeted Sidney Prescott in the long-running slasher series, will not be reprising her role in the upcoming installment because she felt “the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
“Sadly, I won’t be making the next ‘Scream ‘film,” Campbell said in a statement to Variety. “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to ‘Scream.’ I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my ‘Scream’ fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful...

It’s a gray April morning in a sleepy town outside Boston, and Chadwick Stokes is in the wood-walled studio above his garage, reworking a song he wrote decades ago.
“The General” tells the tale of a Civil War veteran who has a dream that makes him realize the futility of combat. Stokes wrote it for his band, Dispatch, and it originally appeared on the group’s 1997 album Bang Bang. Since then it has become one of the band’s most well-known tracks, a staple of Dispatch shows and big on streaming services.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “The Dropout” on Hulu.
When crafting the soundtrack for Hulu’s “The Dropout,” music supervisor Maggie Phillips and show creator Elizabeth Meriwether sought out, as Phillips puts it, “songs that scream 2010.”
Set between 2003 and 2018, “The Dropout” chronicles the rise and fall of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes (Amanda Seyfried), as she goes from founding a medical technology company worth 9 billion to being indicted for fraud. Based on the ABC News podcast of the same name, the limited series has been critically lauded for its writing, acting and music, which incorporates everything from Katy Perry’s “Firework” to Lil Wayne’s “How to Love.”
Phillips, who supervised the show with coordinators Kristen Higuera and Andrew Brady, was drawn to it because she had never worked on a project with music that came out during her adult years.

Spoiler Alert: This piece contains spoilers for “Lizzy,” the finale of “The Dropout,” which premiered April 7 Hulu.
When Elizabeth Meriwether was first planning “The Dropout” — her Hulu adaptation of the popular ABC News podcast of the same name, which chronicled the spectacular rise and precipitous fall of Theranos founder, Elizabeth Holmes — she had an idea about where she wanted the story to end: Burning Man. “It seemed like an interesting place for a kind of quote-unquote rebirth, you know?” Meriwether said.
She could picture Elizabeth, played by Amanda Seyfried, along with her mysterious new boyfriend Billy Evans, as Burners frolicking in the desert without a care in the world. After all, in August 2018, images of the couple at the annual late-summer festival had emerged on social media: In a viral photograph, Holmes can be seen in a T-shirt and fur-collared jacket, wearing hot pink sunglasses and a blissed-out grin.
