Several minutes into her speech at the 2019 Los Angeles Travel and Adventure Show, Kellee Edwards, the host of Travel Channel's Mysterious Islands (and the first black woman to lead a show on the network), has encountered a small issue: she's the sole black woman scheduled to speak at the two-day conference, and her presentation about what it means to connect with communities while traveling isn't working the way it should - but much like every other aspect of her life, she's prepared to take control of the situation with authority, fearlessness, and a smile.
Born on Chicago's South Side, Edwards is used to succeeding in environments that would be a challenge for others. As a licensed pilot, certified scuba diver, and seasoned mountain climber, calling Edwards the future of adventure travel would be an understatement. Her journey is a significant accomplishment given the overwhelmingly white male industry she has been called to pursue,...

There's nothing really good on TV tonight, just the occasional show that's more entertaining than it has a right to be (looking at you, "White Collar" with your dashing suits and your Matt Bomer who seems to have finally gotten a handle on the crazy eyes. Also that girl that looks and soundslike Emma Stone and Emma Pillsbury from "Glee" went into the "If they Mated" machine. If you watch the show you know what I mean.) and a lot of reality stuff involving cupcakes. Ok, maybe not a lot of it involves cupcakes but two different shows on two different networks qualifies as a lot of cupcake shows as far as I'm concerned. Maybe you could just throw a movie on. I'd suggest The Jungle Book because I've been singing "I Wanna Be Like You" to myself All Day and I'm spreading that ear-worm as far as I can...

It looks like Espn is starting to cater to all the movie geeks out there. I'm not really that into sports, but I like what Espn is doing! If you recall, the magazine recently gave some NBA players a Marvel superhero makeover.
Their next issue, called Movie Spectacular, hits shelves on November 29th, and it features some pretty awesome images of actual sports stars recreating scenes from some of their favorite movies such as Back to the Future, The Hangover, Caddyshack, Anchorman, Pulp Fiction and Basic Instinct. The photos feature some of the biggest names in sports like Danica Patrick, Chad Ochocinco and Lindsey Vonn.
This issue of Espn will have articles about about lesser known movie stars like Chelcie Ross who has had roles in Hoosiers, Rudy and Major League. It's got an article that tells a story of trying to pitch a book in Hollywood and even an...

By the time I sat down with Lance Armstrong for this month's cover story on Livestrong, his cancer foundation, I had seen him in July surrounded by rock-star size crowds at the Tour de France. I had also observed him far from the limelight, quietly visiting cancer patients at a Philadelphia hospital. That same weekend in Philadelphia, in August, we spoke in a hotel suite before an awards dinner for Livestrong supporters. His casual, fun demeanor was surprising, coming from a guy who often appears stone-faced, his eyes hidden behind wrap-around cycling shades. When I arrived in the room, he was laughing it up while trash tweeting with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco. Two of the most popular athletes on Twitter--Armstrong has 2.6 million followers, Ochocinco 1.4 million--were daring each other to a bike race that also involved Bengals linebacker Dhani Jones, a new ambassador for Livestrong, and Bengals receiver Terrell Owens.

Dhani Jones playing soccer with kids in Cape Town, South Africa. Photograph courtesy of the Travel Channel. Dhani Jones is no ordinary NFL linebacker. A veteran of the league who was drafted by the New York Giants in 2000 and now plays for the Cincinnati Bengals, Jones has created his own line of bowties, is an ambassador for Operation Smile, and is the star of Dhani Tackles the Globe, a Travel Channel series now in its second year. In the show Jones travels the world, seeking to understand foreign cultures through the sports that are dearest to the locals’ hearts. In Italy he took up cycling, in Singapore he was a Dragon Boat racer, and in Jamaica he learned cricket. With the World Cup kicking off this Friday in South Africa, Jones’s new episode this week—airing Monday night, June 7, at 11—shows him playing soccer with an under-19 team in Cape Town.

You'd think that, given their fondness for on-air drinking, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb would excel at a competition involving bottle-opening. And yet, Gifford and Kotb failed to open a bottle quicker than Dhani Jones of the Cincinnati Bengals on the fourth hour of 'Today' (weekdays, 7Am Et on NBC).
