At Pax Prime, GameSpot attended a panel where God of War video game series writer Marianne Krawczyk talked about a problem inherent to all video game adaptations while talking about the God of War movie. Krawcayk compared the movie to when she was a kid and loved reading the Garfield comic but when she saw the cartoon and heard his voice, it completely threw her. ”I think, if [Kratos] ever makes it to the big-screen, there will be that similar dissonance. The player has a personal experience with him, and then he’s going to be embodied by a different actor, he’s going to have a different voice, he’s going to say a lot more words,” said Krawcayk who also wrote the recent Star Trek tie-in game. She did add, “ I think it will be hard to get that across. But I hope they will someday. We don’t...

On paper the new Star Trek video game has everything going for it. Hot on the heels of wunderkind Jj Abrams’ reboot of the classic science fiction franchise (and there’s a sentence I’ll no doubt be writing again in a couple of years), Trek is probably as hot a property now as it has been since the heady days of The Next Generation, and so a decent game based on the ludicrously successful 2009 movie should be a no brainer, shouldn’t it?
Given that it’s been in development for three years and features not only the likenesses of all of the new generation bridge crew – the roll call being Chris ‘Kirk’ Pine, Zachary ‘Spock’ Quinto, John ‘Sulu’ Cho, Zoe ‘Uhura’ Saldana, Simon ‘Scotty’ Pegg, Anton ‘Chekov’ Yelchin and Judge Dredd himself, Karl ‘Bones’ Urban – but their voices as well, and that it’s been written by Marianne Krawczyk...

Apparently in Digital Extremes' game will tell the story of how a very grimy Kirk and Spock have to swab the decks of the Enterprise after the first movie.
Okay, maybe the swabbing the decks thing isn't true, but the Namco Bandai-published "Star Trek" will bridge the 2009 film and this summer's sequel by revealing the classic "Trek" enemies the lizard-like Gorn. According to the new video, the action kicks off with Vulcan refugees opening up a rip in space and hailing the Enterprise for help after unleashing the Gorn who seize a powerful terraforming device. One of the major plot points of the 2009 film was the diaspora among the surviving Vulcans after the destruction of their home planet by Romulan villain Nero (Eric Bana).
The video touts this as an original story although the script by "Gears of War" writer Marianne Krawczyk has shades of "The Wrath of Khan," specifically...

Play as Kirk. Play as Spock. Those are the selling points behind the upcoming "Star Trek: The Video Game" from Digital Extremes and Paramount. During the filming of the 2009 movie, the development team got together and decided to pursue an immersive Star Trek video game experience, and they are certainly doing that here by heaping tons of fan service into this title. You can mind meld. You can Vulcan neck pinch. You can find Tribbles. You can flirt with girls as Captain Kirk. You can watch Redshirts die. You can shoot phasers, tricord, beam. Just about everything you would expect to run around and do if you ever found yourself aboard the actual Enterprise.
The game was first shown to press behind closed doors at E3 back in 2010, although at that point the game only used temporary audio, and not the actual voices of the cast. Luckily,...

Today we have a commercial for the upcoming "Star Trek Into Darkness" tie-in video game, called "Star Trek: The Video Game." It features William Shatner and his foe, the lizard alien Gorn, playing the game. Things become less than friendly, and the two get into a fight, recreating the classic Kirk vs Gorn battle from the original TV series. "It never ceases to amaze me how many people still ask me about that scene. It's 46 years later, and he hasn't aged as well as I have," said Shatner. Check out the commercial and the classic battle scene below. Game synopsis: The highly anticipated "Star Trek: The Video Game" features a vastly updated version of the Gorn as the key foe to legendary duo Kirk and Spock. More than four decades after they first squared off on an isolated desert planet, William Shatner comes face-to-face again with the menacing Gorn species of Star Trek fame to settle a longstanding feud… but this time the battle begins on a comfy sofa with the two former foes seated in front of a video screen as they fight again in promotion for the April 23 release of Star Trek: The Video Game.
The original Kirk-Gorn duel was seen in the classic 1967 “Arena” episode of the Star Trek series. Millions of people have viewed the original on YouTube.
In the promotional video released today, Shatner and the Gorn are seen casually playing Star Trek: The Video Game when an onscreen dispute leads to a friendly fight re-enacting actual choreographed punches from the classic TV brawl blow-for-blow. This time, however, couch pillows replace the space rocks that were thrown the first time around.

I don't know how I got around to playing it, but the first (and only) "Star Trek" game I've ever had any extended period of time with was "Begin: a Tactical Starship Adventure," the space strategy game that offered something like a billion ways to be blown out of space. That game tended towards the hard sci-fi elements of the original series and less towards the high concept, action adventure stuff that's become associated with the J.J. Abrams reboot.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just really pronounced.
Anyway, this new trailer offers yet another look at the development of Digital Extremes' "Star Trek The Video Game" with Paramount Pictures' Senior Vice President Brian Miller offering his two cents on why Kirk and Spock would make the ultimate partners in a co-op shooter.
There's a lot of leaping and exploding going on in that trailer, plus is Spock taking on stealth missions?...

Set phasers to boom!
Next year's release of the Digital Extremes shooter is starting to come into clearer focus. With reboot sequel on the way in 2013, the Namco Bandai-published game will serve as a bridge between the two films. Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine will reprise their roles as Spock and Kirk for the game in a script by God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk.
Both Spock and Kirk will have their own unique play styles within the game's over-the-shoulder shooter gameplay against classic Star Trek villains, the lizard-like Gorn. The Gorn have decided to take over the galaxy, damn the photon torpedoes, and it's up to Kirk and Spock to take them down.

Currently in development with Ontario-based Digital Extremes ("BioShock 2"), "Star Trek" features an original story by BAFTA award winner Marianne Krawczyk, in collaboration with "Star Trek" movie writer/producers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof :
"...a legendary lizard-like race, known as 'The Gorn' play a destructive and villainous role in the game, with 'Captain James T. Kirk' and 'Mr. Spock' working together to stop the Gorn.
"More than just lizard-skinned foes, the Gorn are a blood-thirsty race and military dictatorship, made up of billions of self-sacrificing warriors across thousands of colonies, each focused on the conquest of other alien races, seeding mayhem and destruction as they destroy populations, depleting planets of their resources.

Pretty much the whole cast from the 2009 film reboot to voice their characters in the upcoming game from Digital Extremes and Namco Bandai.
Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, and Karl Urban, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin are making their way to the small screen in Star Trek, reprising their roles from the film in the third-person shooter from The Darkness II developer Digital Extremes.
With the sequel on the way, Star Trek screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have collaborated with God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk to craft a story that presumably takes place between the two films. In the game, players can take on the role of either Kirk or Spock, each featuring their own combat skills in this over-the-shoulder shooter.

Developer Digital Extremes and Namco have given out more details on the upcoming Star Trek video game, based on the Jj Abrams reboot.
At the Global Gamers Day event in Las Vegas, Namco showed a short demo of the co-op third person shooter which will have a unique storyline that bridges the gap between Star Trek 2009 and next year’s hotly anticipated sequel.
The game is penned by Marianne Krawczyk who previously wrote the critically acclaimed God Of War for the Playstation. Star Trek scriptwriters and producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are also collaborating on the game so it should fit seamlessly in the new rebooted timeline.
Not much in the way of specifics in known at this stage but it appears that each character has specific weapons that level up through the game and the Tricorder is a big in-game element.

The game, simply titled Star Trek for now, would be the title that Digital Extremes has been developing and showed off at E3 last year. Namco Bandai will be handling part of the publishing and distribution duties with the franchise's owner, Paramount Pictures, with an eye towards a release sometime in Q1 of next year, according to a press release from the two companies.
While story details remain scarce, it's clear the movie won't be based on the movie, per se, but will involve "iconic characters Kirk and Spock as they work together to stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy." The script will be by God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk along with the Star Trek reboot's producers/writers/bringers of the Transformers movies Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and the story and gameplay will lean heavily on a co-op experience. [1] Last month, we reported [2] on a Star Trek video game in development, to be written by Marianne Krawczyk (God of War) based on the universe of J.J. Abrams' 2009 film. In a recent interview, film writer Roberto Orci offered a few more bits of information about the upcoming game: that it would bridge the plot between the 2009 movie and the upcoming sequel, and that the game would be canon... more or less. Read on after the jump. According to Orci [3] (via Bleeding Cool [4]), the game's storyline will take place between the events of Abrams' 2009 film and the sequel, due out next year. Orci acknowledged that "fans will tell you that it's only canon when it’s on screen in a movie," but said that "we would like to think that the game and everything that we do in between to be as close to canon as you can get because...

[1] With E3 almost upon us, we're getting lots of info about new video games -- not that we're complaining. After the jump, we've got good news for everyone from time travelers to Trekkies (or Trekkers, if you prefer) to Jedi. Telltale Games has been putting out episodes of Back to the Future: The Game since late last year, and while the series features Christopher Lloyd reprising his role as the voice of the beloved Doc Brown, Aj LoCascio has stepped in for the part of Marty McFly. The "real" Marty McFly, Michael J. Fox, was nowhere to be seen. Until now! The fifth and final episode of Back to the Future: The Game features an appearance from a McFly ancestor whose voice may sound familiar to Back to the Future fans. The whole Gt.TV episode that delivers the info is 21 minutes long, so feel free to skip...

Paramount Digital Entertainment recently revealed today that they are developing a new Star Trek video game that has an original story and give the player and fans one hell of an awesome co-op experience. For the first time ever, you will be able to play as Kirk and Spock! Of course it will be the Kirk and Spock from the J.J. Abrams version of the series. I loved Abrams' film, so that really doesn't bother me, but it might piss off some of the other Star Trek fans.
The game will continue the adventure that director and producer J.J. Abrams started with his Star Trek film. It will play out as a stand alone story "filled with action-packed combat as Kirk and Spock must work together to stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy."

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."
That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy
For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.
