While James Corden is not entirely new to the United States, he's not entering The Late Late Show with nearly the same level of familiarity to U.S. audiences as his predecessor, Craig Ferguson.
For the uninitiated, here are some of Corden's best TV moments that prove he's got this gig on lock.
That Time He Locked Lips with Harry Styles
To the envy of teens everywhere (and grown adults, shut up), One Direction's Styles, then 19 years old, laid one on Corden during a kiss cam segment on A League of Their Own, which Corden has hosted since 2011. Though...

Our congratulations to all of the nominees.” First-time nominees include Jodie Foster ("House of Cards," "Orange is the New Black"), Cary Fukunaga ("True Detective"), Mike Judge ("Silicon Valley"), Lisa Cholodenko ("Olive Kitteridge"), Michael Wilson ("The Trip to Bountiful") and Jill Soloway ("Transparent"). 9 Things that Doctor Who series 9 must deliver
Doctor Who has only been off our screens a little while and already we're dreaming of the next series. Christmas is coming, of course, but Steven Moffat and company are by now well underway on work for the ninth full series since 2005.
Beyond Moffat's continued involvement (and Peter Capaldi's), details are scarce about what to expect from the next batch of episodes. So while we're still able to indulge in rampant speculation, here are 9 things we want to see when the Doctor returns to our screens.
1. More Missy
Post-grand reveal, did anyone else feel that the manic Missy - though magnificently portrayed by Michelle Gomez - ended up a little neglected in a finale episode that also had to resolve a Cyberman Invasion of Earth,...

CBS has given James Corden's "Late Late Show" a debut date. It also has an executive producer. The network announced this morning that "The Late Late Show with James Corden" will begin on March 9, 2015 at 12:37am. And, by "Monday, March 9," they probably mean Tuesday, March 10, they just don't want you to go to bed on Monday night before the show starts as it begins 37 minutes into the new day. The Tony-Award winning Corden recently appeared in "Begin Again" with Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo. He will also be seen in the upcoming film "Into the Woods," and may be best known to "Doctor Who" fans as playing Craig Owens in "The Lodger" and "Closing Time." Nina Tassler, the Chairman of CBS Entertainment released a statement saying, “We’re excited to begin CBS’s next chapter after midnight and introduce James’ wide range of performance talents and fearless creative instincts to American television viewers.

Viewers of a certain age may remember a quirky kids TV show called Grandad in which Clive Dunn played Charlie Quick, an absent-minded old caretaker who would almost certainly end each episode by drowning his spluttering boss in a tidal wave of fizzy drinks spurting from a malfunctioning dispenser unit.
Good times. And refreshingly free of the moronic TV programming that viewers have to endure these days. This ratings-driven disease has conveniently eaten its way into good old Doctor Who, which has been pushed back to 8.30 in order to make way for two tacky hours worth of Z-list celebs moving around a big floor. Considering that Doctor Who is supposed to be a family programme, pushing it back to make way for the lowest-common-denominator trash of Strictly Come Dancing makes about as much sense as a man trying to give directions with 100 gobstoppers in his mouth. That's the whole junior audience left out for starters.

Underdog achievement stories, from Breaking Away to Rudy and Kung Fu Panda, are practically defined by the multitude of voices telling the hero that he's not good enough. Such was the real-life case of Paul Potts, the Welsh opera singer with a blue-collar background who blew away the judges of Britain's Got Talent in 2007. In David Frankel's One Chance, Paul is played by James Corden, the comic charmer who portrayed Craig Owens in two funny Doctor Who episodes, now set to take over Craig Ferguson's late-night spot on CBS. The film shoehorns Potts's life story into a familiar underdog template, populating the world with near-mythological threshold guardians who exist to assure the hero that he isn't good enough, including his dad, his teachers, ...

Two more writers have been confirmed for season seven of Doctor Who, joining the previously announced Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, and John Fay. First up is Being Human (UK) creator Toby Whithouse, whose previous episodes include School Reunion, Vampires of Venice, and The God Complex. The second writer is Chris Chibnall, who wrote the underrated David Tennant episode 42. There might be another writer or two who still hasn’t been announced, possibly including Gareth Roberts, who might end up writing a third Craig Owens episode with James Corden, something that has been rumored a few times.

So The Doctor's on yet another goodbye mission. Since bidding adieu to Amy and Rory at the end of The God Complex, nearly 200 years have passed. Now The Doctor's apparently facing the end of his days – note the word, apparently – by now, every man, woman, child, cat, dog, guinea pig, hamster and fly realised that The Doctor wouldn't die – you can't have a successful, long-running show and then just axe it without warning. Not even a cut-ridden BBC can kill off that indomitable Time Lord for good.
But hey – any excuse for yet another whistle-stop tour of old friends. Presumably, in the future, The Doctor will take this to the next level. He'll go out and buy himself a musty old copy of the Doctor Who A-z Encyclopaedia by Jean-Marc Lofficier and visit every last character he's met during his many lives – yes, right down to the bumbling Louvre Guide...

It’s been confirmed that the awesomely named British actor Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as the villain in the Star Trek sequel which begins filming this month. Scoring accolades for his turn as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic detective on the BBC’s Sherlock (its showrunner is Steven Moffat of Doctor Who fame, of course), the actor has also turned in high profile supporting roles in Steven Spielberg’s War Horse and Tinker, Taylor, Soldier Spy. He’ll also portray Smaug the Dragon (through motion capture) and voice the Necromanncer in the upcoming The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
The question remains, who will he’ll play. When Benicio Del Toro dropped out last month, it had been more or less confirmed that Kahn would be the Big Bad. But was that true to begin with now? It’s also know that...

‘Closing Time’ effectively works as a sequel to last year’s hilarious and moving ‘The Lodger’, both written by Gareth Roberts and guest-starring James Corden as Craig Owens. Whereas ‘The Lodger’ was about Craig’s relationship with Sophie (Daisy Haggard), ‘Closing Time’ is about his relationship with their baby son. The former concerned romantic love, the latter paternal love, and in both cases, the Doctor was instrumental in helping Craig’s character arc along, though only in the context of inspiring him to act on his feelings.
Basically, these two episodes (as well as others) take the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Buffy the Vampire Slayer approach of a character working through real emotional issues by facing fantastical threats. This approach tends to be quite effective, since it combines the best of both worlds: the awesomeness of genre with the emotional resonance of drama.
This is something the Doctor wrestles with throughout the episode,...

In anticipation of the much-anticipated return of Doctor Who, theTVaddict.com’s West Coast Correspondent Tiffany Vogt recently had the chance to sit down (alongside a gaggle of reporters) with star Matt Smith, who was only too happy to tease what’s in store for fans as the show kicks off the second half of its sixth season this Saturday.
How was it dying and then coming back on a television show, like in “The Impossible Astronaut”?
Matt: Only in Doctor Who can you make that possible! I just love the way that Steven [Moffat] plays with time and structure in Who — and in the next half of the series we really get into the crux of what that is all about and it’s pretty interesting.
How would you describe The Doctor?
Matt: I think I’m very fortunate to have Steven Moffat as a writer. He’s very inventive.
