Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. took to the 2024 Grammys stage to pay tribute to the victims of the Supernova music festival massacre that launched the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7, 2023.
“Tonight, we celebrate the world of music,” he said. “Every one of us, no matter where we’re from, is united by the shared experience of music. It brings us together like nothing else can and that’s why music must always be our safe space. When that’s violated, it strikes at the very core of who we are.”
Mason also recognized the tragedies at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris in 2015, the Manchester Arena in England in 2017 and the Route 91 Harvest Music festival in Las Vegas in 2017.
Of the attack on festivalgoers on Oct. 7, where more than 360 people were killed and another 40 were kidnapped by terror group Hamas in the worst civilian massacre in Israeli history, he said,...

The singer/songwriter and social-media star — with 9 million followers on TikTok and 3.1 million followers on Instagram — arrived at the Grammy Awards at L.A.’s Crypto.com Arena wearing a nude corset gown that featured an oversized yellow ribbon on the gown’s front, emblazoned with the message, “Bring Them Home.”
This awards season, yellow ribbons were first seen at the 2024 Golden Globes on Jan. 7 as a sign of support for the hostages still being held in captivity by Hamas since the terrorist organization attacked Israel on Oct. 7. Some Jewish influencers are not happy with TikTok‘s response to inflammatory language. During a private call held five weeks after the outbreak of war in the Middle East, celebs like Sacha Baron Cohen, Debra Messing, and Amy Schumer criticized TikTok’s perceived inaction toward a growing “antisemitic movement” on its platform.
The call was organized by TikTok’s Head of Operations, Adam Presser, and its Global Head of User Operations Seth Melnick. The execs, both of whom are Jewish, held the meeting to discuss the alarming rise of antisemitic rhetoric on TikTok since October 7. At least 30 people joined the call, including the Jewish celebs listed above.
“What is happening at TikTok is it is creating the biggest antisemitic movement since the Nazis,” Baron Cohen said during the call. He argued that TikTok could simply “flip a switch” to curb Jewish hate among its community.
