By diving headlong into the title role for Flora and Son, Eve Hewson — the daughter of U2 frontman Bono — conquered her fear of singing, the actress said at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles in a panel with co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the film’s composer and primary songwriter Gary Clark.
Hewson, who played instruments before she turned to acting, said she jumped at the chance to play Flora in spite of the vocal work that the part would demand because she loved the script and the character — a struggling but very spirited single mother in Dublin trying to make peace with the wayward adolescent son she bore as a teenager.
“I just thought, ‘I could not let this person get away from me. I have to play this part. And I’m just going to have to get over my fear of singing — it’s not something I’ve...

Food Network is about to ring the start bell on season 2 of Superchef Grudge Match.
The Darnell Ferguson-hosted series will return Dec. 26 with a new batch of all-star competitions to settle some of the biggest personal and professional feuds in the culinary world. In each episode, Ferguson stages two different battles between chefs who have beefs with each other to finally bury the hatchet and win $10,000 cash, a prized knife from the losing chef and lifelong bragging rights over their food foe.
“The grudges are bigger and badder this season. When these chefs collide, the culinary action is intense and the trash-talk is biting,” said Betsy Ayala, Head of Content, Food, Warner Bros. Discovery. “Darnell’s energy and bold personality make him the ideal host to settle these scores.”

Sony Masterworks Broadway today has released'Drive It Like You Stole It,' a new track from the forthcoming Original Broadway Cast Recording of Sing Street. Based on John Carney's indie hit film following a group of teenagers in '80s Dublin, Sing Street features music inspired by the era, co-written by Carney and Danny Wilson front man Gary Clark. A fan-favorite number from the original film, 'Drive It Like You Stole It' celebrates the thrill of rebellion, capturing the essence of the '80s with its anthemic singalong chorus - listen here.

Another transfer window has been and gone and with it has come closure to the majority of the transfer rumours and gossip that have been circulating the web over the past 31 days.
We saw David Beckham join Paris Saint-Germain and pledge to donate his salary to a children’s charity; we saw Qpr make a club-record signing by capturing former Blackburn defender Christopher Samba from Anzhi and we saw Arsenal add left-back Nacho Monreal from Malaga.
Liverpool, it seems, had no intentions of joining the above clubs in frantically scrambling for new recruits on transfer deadline day, with Brendan Rodgers getting his transfer business wrapped up with days to spare. Daniel Sturridge had already moved from Chelsea, while Philippe Coutinho became the second (and last) winter signing at Anfield after he moved from Italian giants Inter Milan.
In fact, there were more out-goings at the club than arrivals. Joe Cole,...

League One has been an exciting league this season, at both ends of the table. With two games left and still all to play for, the climax of this turbulent year is sure to capture more headlines than usual due to the interesting race between the two steel city clubs for the last automatic spot. Sheffield Wednesday are the team in form but Sheffield United have the extra point on their next-door neighbors.
Here are the main 5 reasons I believe Sheffield Wednesday have what it takes to pip their rivals and rejoin the second tier of English football.
5. The Manager
There was a ripple of shock around Hillsborough when Gary Megson was dismissed of his duty after the steel city victory. However it seems to have been a masterstroke by chairman Milan Mandaric as Megson’s successor Dave Jones is still undefeated in his Hillsborough reign. The Owls now play...

Ryan Giggs's dad has admitted that his son's recent behaviour has been "beyond belief". Rugby star Danny Wilson described Ryan's eight-year affair with brother Rhodri's wife Natasha as the "lowest thing anyone could ever do to somebody" and blamed "fame and fortune" for the scandal. Wilson, who has rarely seen his sons since splitting from their mum Lynne when Ryan was 14, also revealed how he was once stabbed in the neck and face after confronting a rival football fan who racially abused his son. "When I think back to the two of them as boys they had such a close bond. I taught them to always look out for one another and look after each other. They were so tight. I simply can't believe how it has all fallen apart," Wilson told the Daily Star. "It (more)...

Holland took on Scotland in a crucial under 21 qualifying match as both sides hope to qualify for the 2013 under 21 Championships which will be held in Israel. Holland topped the group on nine points, before heading into this clash, whilst the Scots sat in third.
Scotland started the match very brightly as Celtic winger Jamie Forrest used his pace to create a yard of space down the right wing and delivered a loopy cross to in-form Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes, who made his senior debut for Scotland against Cyprus a couple of days ago, and Rhodes neatly headed his effort into the back of the Holland net on the 2nd minute mark. A perfect start for the visitors.
On 6 minutes Baratize, the former Arsenal forward, had a close range effort blocked by Mark Ridgers in the Scotland goal. The Scots kept possession well in the first ten minutes and made Holland work hard.

Stuart Pearce, the stalwart of many unsuccessful English International campaigns, has been (inevitably) put in charge of the 18-man squad for Team Gb’s Olympic Football campaign hat will no doubt reflect the huge array of talent that equally exists within our nation. Hope Powell, the only female football coach anyone actually knows, has been given the mantel of coaching the ladies team.
Sadly, this selection process is not going to come without a lot of scrutiny, such as ‘How can you choose just 18 players?’ and ‘Why is most of the team English under 21s?’. Not to mention the fact the Scottish and Northern Irish Fa are opposed to the idea because it will damage the independence of the countries. Or that they won’t have anyone selected. You decide.
Luckily for Stuart, I’ve made his squad selection decisions for him. There is only one crucial rule to remember.
