“Walker” has been canceled at The CW after four seasons, Variety has learned.
“We want to thank the entire cast, crew, writers, directors and producers of ‘Walker’ for their hard work and dedication over four incredible seasons,” The CW said in a statement. “We also want to give a special thanks to star and executive producer Jared Padalecki, who has been a member of The CW family for over 20 years and was integral to some of the biggest hits on the network.”
The move to cancel the show is not surprising, as it was one of the few remaining original series that predated Nexstar taking over The CW. The network’s new owners have largely done away with original scripted series, opting instead to focus on low-cost foreign imports and co-productions as well as sports and unscripted series.

It’s final. There will be no second season for Walker Independence. Efforts to find a new home for the CBS Studios-produced Walker spinoff were unsuccessful following cancellation by the CW, sources have confirmed to Deadline.
Executive producer Jared Padalecki earlier told Deadline’s sister site TVLine, which first reported the show would not be moving elsewhere, that they were “aggressively looking for a place that Walker Independence could land,” but ultimately came up short.
Starring Matt Barr and Katherine McNamara, Walker Independence, whose pilot was written by Seamus Fahey based on a story by him and Anna Fricke, and directed by Larry Teng, was set in the late 1800s. It followed an affluent Bostonian named Abby Walker (McNamara), whose husband is murdered in front of her while on their trek out West. In her first proper interview since Walker Independence was cancelled (nearly a month ago), series lead Katherine McNamara notes, unsurprisingly, “It’s not the news we wanted to hear.”
McNamara had appeared on multiple podcasts that were released after the cancellation news broke, but they had all been taped prior. But as a guest on The Wayne Ayers Podcast (the full episode drops this Wednesday), she was able to actually post mortem it all, saying that “one of the showrunners and one of the producers called me” with the news, “and obviously it’s not the call we wanted to get.

The CW announced on Tuesday (May 11) that it was canceling Walker prequel series Walker: Independence after just one season, and the show’s star Katherine McNamara had resigned herself to this unfortunate fate. “When it comes to this year specifically, I knew that everything’s changing at The CW; everything’s changing in television in general. And there are so many options and opportunities and unorthodox ways in which shows stay, continue, get canceled, get renewed somewhere else entirely,” McNamara told Collider on Monday, May 10, a day before the cancellation was announced. “I have become so resigned when it comes to these things; I just leave it up to the television gods,” she continued. “I’ve gone, ‘You know what? The CW has canceled Walker prequel Walker Independence after one season.
The move, which was expected, follows the CW’s renewal of mothership series Walker earlier today.
The bulk of the CW’s existing scripted series will be canceled this week as the network is transitioning to a new business model of lower-cost scripted programming in pursuit of profitability. While Walker is the CW’s most watched series, Walker: Independence was in the middle of the pack ratings-wise.

The CW’s Walker prequel, Walker Independence, is set to premiere on October 6, 2022 at 9pm Et/Pt. The new series takes place in the 1800s but shares a character – and actor – with the original show. Matt Barr stars in Walker Independence as Hoyt Rawlins, an ancestor of the Hoyt Rawlins he plays in Walker.
Speaking to TVLine, Barr described his Walker Independence character as made of the same DNA and heart as Walker‘s Hoyt. “But [Walker‘s] Hoyt was more of a talker, and this guy is a man of action. He’s a little more dangerous,” said Barr.

With two seasons of success under its gun belt, Jared Padalecki’s contemporary drama Walker now births this 1800s-set prequel series exploring the Texas Ranger’s Lone Star State roots. But don’t expect a dusty tale of dysentery and unhappy home-steading. “We’re interested in a modern twist on [the classic Western],” says Anna Fricke, who executive produces Walker Independence with Padalecki and show creator Seamus Kevin Fahey. “Something unexpected and subversive.” Like, say, presenting the origin story from a female perspective? Brian Bowen Smith/The CW “That is why I was so attracted to this project,” raves Arrow’s Katherine McNamara. Abby Walker is a forward-thinking Bostonian whose “life goes up in flames” in the first scene: Her lawman husband is murdered on the trail to the burgeoning town of Independence, where he was to be the new sheriff. The CW has ordered to series all three of its pilots: DC Comics-based Gotham Knights, Walker: Independence and The Winchesters.
All three are based on underlying IP: Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, Walker origin story Walker: Independence and Gotham Knights. Because of their pedigree, solid execution and the fact that this is half the number of pilots the CW has normally picked up over the past decade, all had been major contenders from the start.
2022 The CW Pilots & Series Orders
The Winchesters is said to be the strongest attempt at a Supernatural spinoff to date; it is the first to go to series. Gotham Knights‘ pickup comes as the CW canceled three other DC series: Batwoman, which was set in a similar world, Naomi and Legends of Tomorrow. And Walker: Independence has been getting praise for its expansive Western feel.

Exclusive: Ashley Reyes has been tapped as a lead opposite Jared Padalecki in the CW’s Walker. Reyes, who has joined the cast as a series regular, will first appear in the next episode, “Nudge”, slated to premiere March 3.
Reyes succeeds Lindsay Morgan who exited Walker earlier this season for personal reasons after playing Walker’s (Padalecki) partner Micki Ramirez since the pilot. Reyes will play a new character, Cassie, who is Walker’s new partner.
A spirited, uncensored, strong Texas Ranger based in Dallas who served as a Texas state trooper for 8 years before that, Cassie is unconventional and wily, quick on her feet. She knows that she’s one of the only women in her field and that the odds are always against her, but rather than color inside the lines, Cassie chooses to splash vivid colors all over the canvas.

The CW has started making pilot orders.
Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, a Walker spinoff and DC universe-set Gotham Knights all have been picked up to pilot.
The move means that both stars of The CW’s Supernatural will be producing pilots for the upcoming season: Jensen Ackles with The Winchesters and Jared Padalecki with Walker: Independence.
The trio of pilot orders is unsurprising – Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva pointed to all three likely making the cut in her Pilot Season 2022 rundown. The network also handed an additional six scripts to the female-fronted Zorro series project.

1.6 A Murder Of Gods
There's something of an art to splitting the main cast of a television show into two groups. I've seen it done very poorly, and I've seen it done very well. Some shows, like Game Of Thrones, seem to deliberately break their episodes up into little segments and chunks, so viewers get to spend five minutes here, five minutes there, and only occasionally get a full-on episode in one location with one or two major characters. American Gods, being a travelogue at its core, has two groups of characters on the road, and they're two groups that function very well separately from one another.

So far, 2017 has been incredibly generous when it comes to tie in-comics. In addition to readers being able to enrich their experiences with prequel tales for properties such as 24: Legacy and The Great Wall, Spectral: Ghosts of War becomes the latest to join the club.
Serving as a lead-in to the Netflix original film, Spectral, this digital offering is written by Seamus Kevin Fahey (Battlestar Galactica, Lethal Weapon) and Sean Fahey (BlackJack Press), with gorgeous painted artwork contributed by Zid (Son of Merlin, Kong: Skull Island).
Although the preview Legendary Comics have provided includes only two interior pages, we can probably all agree how stunning said painted artwork is. Being a fan of the likes of Alex Ross, it’s something I would love to see more of in the medium, as I...

So far I’ve found Heroes: Vengeance to be decent, without really stretching itself in any way to make it more of an essential read. The idea of the Heroes Reborn minis is a good one, giving characters from the TV show more of a voice, letting them breathe a bit more than in the constraints of a 42 minute episode that juggles lots of characters and plotlines. The down side of that is sometimes characters should not be fleshed out further, as they were created as a function of plot with a deliberately limited lifespan, and attempts to make more of them just do not work. Unfortunately, so far, El Vengador seems to be drifting that way.

Heroes Reborn, Season 1, Episode 10, “11:53 to Odessa”
Written by Seamus Kevin Fahey
Directed by Larysa Kondracki
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
The fall finale has come and gone. There won’t be any more episodes until January. Heroes Reborn has left much of its cast scattered to the winds, trying to converge and save the world. Everyone has some of the answers to how to accomplish this; no one has all the answers. The villain’s evil plan is almost ready except for a few crucial pieces that they are close to acquiring. The fate of the Earth hangs in the balance. Sounds like a pretty exciting place to leave the audience, doesn’t it? Except it’s not, and that’s because Heroes Reborn, as been pointed out time and time again here, has no idea what it’s doing.
The simple idea of a finale that leaves the main cast dispersed,...

Issue 1 of this 5 issue limited series was a bit of a disappointment to me, it must be said. The idea is sound; take characters from the Heroes Reborn TV show, and give them an individual spotlight, add more depth and interest to them and their world. Have it co-written by the show’s producer too, to keep consistency and authenticity. Sounds great, but as the first issue showed individual pieces do not a satisfying end product make. I had my fingers crossed for issue two.
Issue 1 gave us the set-up, Oscar Gutierrez is a mechanic by day, costumed vigilante at night, dedicated in both guises to keeping his community (and family) safe. We still jump between the past and present, and a few more hints are revealed to the reader. Carlos was absent from...

For a brief time the television series Heroes was a cultural phenomenon, running from 2006-2010, though by its end it had badly run out of steam. That first season though stands up as good as any you will see. As a show that took its ideas and format from comic books, it has strangely not done very well in translating the Heroes world and characters to the comic book format in the past. Titan Comics are giving it another bash, and doing it the right way by getting the show’s producer, Seamus Kevin Fahey, to co-write.
The central idea is to produce a series of mini-series that will flesh out the background and motivations of the different characters that will be spotlighted in the Heroes Reborn TV show, (currently showing in the Us,...

Family is as important to the universe of Heroes as Primatech or people inexplicably coming back to life. The Petrellis and the Nakamuras and the Bennets and the Sureshs had grand lineages that went into controlling the evos, exploiting them, and understanding them. This focus grounds the series: We all have family and understand the various pains and strains that those relationships and exceptions generate in life. This also theoretically gives the show ample opportunity to mine and explore new conflicts. But as was seen ten or so years ago, only so many times can Heroes have Peter and Nathan stand at opposite ends of a crisis only to come together at the end, with one of them scarifying themselves, before the audience gets actively angry at the show.

Last year U.S. television network Fox produced and then quickly cancelled "Rake," a toothless and weakly received version of the well-regarded and darkly humoured Australian legal comedy of the same name from local broadcaster ABC TV.
That isn't stopping Fox from trying again with another show from the same Australian broadcaster, this time they're planning a crime drama series based on the telemovie series "Jack Irish" which starred Guy Pearce.
Based on the detective novels by Peter Temple, two TV movies were produced in 2012 and one in 2014 that starred Pearce as a former criminal lawyer turned private investigator and debt collector.
Getting his life back together after the murder of his wife, he usually finds himself landing cases by being in the wrong place at the wrong time - cases involving high-level corruption, dark sexual secrets, and murder.

Believe, Season 1, Episode 8: “Together”
Teleplay by Seamus Kevin Fahey and Sneha Koorse, Story by Seamus Kevin Fahey
Directed by Bart Freundlich
Airs Sundays at 9pm (Et) on NBC
The past few weeks have revealed how, despite the presence of other gifted individuals, Skouras has been intent on finding Bo. This has led to the development of machines at Orchestra that have been able to track Bo’s paranormal activities, bringing Skouras’ mercenaries closer to her every time. This week’s episode sees Channing and Winter figure out the machine and try to shield Bo’s powers from it, in a compelling episode that delves further into the bond between Bo and Tate.
The capture of Channing by Skouras is a promising development. While Skouras and Winter had a personal relationship that allows the two of them to sit in a cafe and discuss Bo, Channing and Skouras have less of a history.

Airs Sundays at 9pm (Et) on NBC
Since Winter, Channing, and the group broke Tate out of Death Row, the latter has expressed a strong desire to confront the people who put him in jail in the first place. Tate’s earlier efforts to escape have been hampered by the FBI-led manhunt as well as Winter insisting that his first priority is to look after Bo, an assignment Tate has shown some interest in carrying out. However, Bo’s disengagement of Tate’s ankle bracelet at the end of last week’s episode gave him his first real opportunity to follow his own agenda. This week’s episode puts the focus on Tate’s history, in an exciting episode that alters character dynamics permanently.
