‘This Picture Kills Fascists’ might be a motto for this bombshell essay documentary. Leo Hurwitz’s film wasn’t made welcome in 1948 and would surely be controversial today, as it’s just too &%#$ truthful and blunt about good old American bigotry and injustice. The passionate, jarring plea for humanist sanity really shakes up viewers, in a constructive way. Hurwitz said that one TV executive compared it to The Sermon on the Mount. It’s still a lightning bolt against fascist ideas flourishing in the Land of the Free.

Nobody does Thanksgiving quite like Oprah Winfrey.
The 63-year-old talk show host and Weight Watchers spokesperson hosted and epic Thanksgiving on Thursday, complete with four 22-lb. turkeys — two of which were smoked and all of which were marinated in cajun spices, chicken seasoning, and sage with roasted vegetables like celery and rutabaga.
“This is our Thanksgiving so we got to work the points however best we can,” she told fans on Instagram as she toured the lavish spread.
Not all of the turkeys were for the Own network creator and her guests, though they did plan on going through the majority of them.

Lady Gaga is teaming up with The Muppets for a holiday special. There’s not a whole lot of news about the art project artist’s latest holiday venture, but E! Online is reporting that the special was recently shot in L.A. and will air later this year on ABC. Gaga’s new record, the not-so-coincidentally timed Artpop, hits stores Nov. 11. This isn’t Gaga’s first holiday go ‘round. In 2011, she hosted and directed the very awkward special A Very Gaga Thanksgiving, which included guest appearances from Katie Couric, Tony Bennett, and chef Art Smith.

Plus more renewals, cancellations and series orders, a sodomy trial on Da Vinci’s Demons along with the finales for Once Upon a Time and Revenge. News
In the lead-up to the upfronts, NBC gave an expected sixth season order to Parks and Recreation. It also cancelled troubled comedies Whitney (which got rid of its most interesting aspect when Maulik Pancholy‘s character was written out) and 1600 Penn as well as comedies Up All Night (which was expected, considering the show’s many troubles) and Guys with Kids.
Leslie Knope wins another one.

It's been a strong season of "Top Chef Masters," but it all comes down to one winner. Ultimately it was all about the chef who took the bigger risks. And the distinguished chef-testant who can now call himself the Top Chef Master is: Chris Cosentino.
Cosentino wins a season full of fierce competition and big personalities. Lorena Garcia, Patricia Yeo, Takashi Yagihasi, Art Smith and Thierry Rautureau all left their unique marks in the kitchen even though they didn't make it to the finals. The season also benefited from a cleverly selected mix of guest stars -- including the hilariously idiosyncratic food musings from the likes of Holly Madison, the B-52s and Dita von Teese -- and challenges -- cooking at the Grand Canyon, a cook-off in a boxing ring -- that took full advantage of the Las Vegas locale.

Lady Gaga hosted a televised Thanksgiving special last week which also included a food segment with Art Smith.
"Tonight, I asked chef Art to prepare for us some fried turkey and waffles for all of America to enjoy on Thanksgiving," Lady Gaga said during A Very Gaga Thanksgiving.
Smith also helped Gaga make a few family recipes for the audience, including Grandmother Germanotta's Salami Pecorino Cheese Waffles and Aunt Sheri and Uncle Steve's Spiced Pecans.
"Cooking is such a huge part of my life that nobody really knows about," Lady Gaga added. "It's what I do on the road when I'm alone to make me feel happy."
It seems Gaga's entire family has a love for food because the Germanotta's are opening their very own restaurant.

Thanksgiving is a time for traditions – turkey, pecan pie and, this year, some Lady Gaga. Yes, last night, after their big Thanksgiving meals, many Little Monsters undoubtedly crowded around the TV with their families to take in Gaga’s ABC special, “A Very Gaga Thanksgiving Special.”
Right from the start of the 90 minute special, you could tell that this would not be the MTV Video Music Awards meat dress-wearing Lady Gaga. Instead, Gaga appeared in a classy black, off-shoulder dress, blond hair and blood red lips. She opened the show performing “The Lady is a Tramp” with the legendary Tony Bennett, who showered Gaga with high praise, saying that she had “a touch of theatrical genius” and that “she might become America’s Picasso.”

ABC is out to capitalize on your Thanksgiving food-coma couch time with A Very Gaga Thanksgiving, a special naturally hosted by noted Martha Stewart emulator Lady Gaga. Surprisingly, the preview for Gaga's ninety-minute Turkey Day special does not feature any intergalactic birth scenes, all-white bathhouses, or even "Let's Make a Sandwich" time. In fact, this looks downright... dare I say it... conventional. Sure, there's some eclectic fashion, but the centerpieces here appear to be bantering with Tony Bennett, test-tasting some turkey prepared by Art Smith, a super-serious interview with Katie Couric, and doing some kind of glitter activity with a group of children. Could this be Lady Gaga's bid for the homemaking throne? Turns out few may ever know, since ABC stupidly chose to schedule A Very Gaga Thanksgiving around the same time as a rerun of The Mentalist. Because if America loves [...]...

Like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Eva Longoria and now Ellen DeGeneres, Lady Gaga is trying her hand at the restaurant business. According to Internet chatter, her proud papa Joseph will hook-up with his superstar daughter on the business.
The restaurant will be named Joanne and will be located on West 68th Street in New York City, where the Germanotta clan resides. Gaga has already invested in the spot, according to Foodista. It's reportedly slated for a soft launch this Thanksgiving, with a full launch in December. Art Smith (who was on "Top Chef Masters" and worked for Oprah) will reportedly be the restaurant's chef.
While right now there is no confirmation on the matter, there is a bit of back story behind the name chosen for the spot. Joanne is not only Gaga's middle name but is also the name of Joseph's late sister, who the pop star has spoken about as her spirit guide.

It was one of a the closest contests ever in 'Top Chef' history, as Wednesday's finale came down to two remarkable, four-course dinners composed by the remaining two 'Top Chef All-Stars' cheftestants.
It was like a prize fight, with both heavyweight chefs Richard Blais and Michael Isabella slugging it out course by course, dish by dish, morsel by morsel.
The judges, including guest chefs like Hubert Keller and Art Smith, were duly impressed by the food presented by these two finalists. Head judge Tom Colicchio declared that it had been the best cooking he'd ever eaten in a 'Top Chef' finale.
Ultimately, the choice of one over the other was a case of splitting hairs, with Blais emerging victorious. Read on for interviews with both Blais and Isabella.

It’s the Top Chef All-Stars Finale! The real one, not Part 1 of 4 where they have to cook for a king who turns out to be not a king and how is that a twist because the stakes are infinitely lower (so many chefmories)! It’s down to Richard Blais and Mike Isabella, and their Final Challenge is to “Provide a glimpse into your future as a great chef.” Richard says he dreams of someday having a restaurant where “you come in and I cook you my style of food” (it’s also a restaurant where he’s in it to win it and not there to make friends), while Mike Isabella shows the judges a crystal ball of his future self as a fat fish with a long white beard. All the All-Stars and Jamie are back, and they’re all wearing their Wackee Finalee Glasses: Everyone got their Cheffin’ glasses on?...

Richard Blais and Mike Isabella got to be assisted by eliminated chefs in the kitchen. The former had Spike, Angelo and Antonia on his team while the latter got Tiffani, Jamie and Carla. Richard decided to call his restaurant Tongue in Cheek while Mike preferred to call his simply Izz.
Mike created a dish made from beets for his first course, and followed it up with steamed halibut with kumquat, pork shoulder with pepperoni sauce and a flan. Richard amused the judges with hamachi and sweetbreads, black cod and pork belly, beef short rib and foie gras ice cream.
When the judges deliberated, the first and second course went to Richard, while the third went to Mike.

Snow may have blanketed the country this winter, but the sight of Padma Lakshmi in a bikini could be hot enough to melt even the thickest ice. TV Guide Magazine reports exclusively that the Top Chef host recently traded bone-chilling Manhattan for the balmy Bahamas to film the four-part All-Stars finale, which Bravo will begin airing in March.

Forget a limo - James Beard award winning chef Art Smith went a different route for his wedding transportation: He kicked off the day with a four-mile run through Washington, D.C., alongside his longtime partner Jesus Salgueiro and 485 guests. "We had the runners, the joggers, the walkers," Smith tells People. "We had sweat on our shirts but nobody cared because it was beautiful." The run, which began at Smith's D.C. restaurant Art and Soul, ended at the base of the Lincoln Memorial, where the grooms shared a marriage blessing last Saturday. "It was this big gay wedding," Smith,...

This is a Recap of Top Chef D.C. (Season 7), Episode 7, entitled “Power Lunch”, originally airing July 28, 2010. It is full of Spoilers Galore, by which I mean the James Bond Villain who spoils things by having sex with them a lot. Before we get into this week’s episode, let’s take a moment of B-Roll to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives defending our right to have cable reality cooking competitions: Thanks dudes! Now let’s criticize the sh*t out of themed foods! For this week’s Quickfire, 19-year-old congressman Aaron Schock of Illinois explains that when lobbyists buy food for D.C. politicians, the food must fit on a toothpick, so the challenge this week is to prepare an extravagant meal that fits entirely on a toothpick. That…makes complete sense, actually. That is an actual element of D.C. politics, and it...

For all his “alpha male” talk, Kenny really is just a cuddly teddy bear. Whether he’s scrunched up in bed, pondering his low rank in last week’s episode or strutting around the house in his cozy bathrobe, he’s just a big lug.
Angelo, on the other hand, is as deceiving as they get. I mean how can you expect us to believe you’re actually sad to see Tamesha gone when you’re wearing neon green?
And that’s how the episode pretty much opened, because the only interesting aspect of this season is watching Kenny and Angelo duke it out.

In the episode that saw the return of not so masterful chefs from Top Chef Masters season 1, simplicity won again, like in the last episode, and the chefs who learned their lessons from their first run prevailed.
Meet the Chefs of Top Chef Masters Season 2
Jonathan Waxman of Barbuto in New York City and Rick Moonen of Oceana also in NYC are advancing to the champions round, with their glamorized versions of (Irish) grub food receiving more stars than the other chefs. Jonathan lost to Art Smith and his fried chicken in the first season (pictured), while Rick lost to the very fiery / scary Michael Chiarello, who got as far as the top three.

Hmm... it seems like every network is expanding at the waistline. That is, a bunch of them are getting into food in a big way. Like Fine Living becoming the Cooking Channel. Tlc is also adding more yum yum to the schedule. And the latest has an Oprah angle. Perhaps it's a coincidence, but just about everyone connected to Oprah Winfrey is getting a TV show these days... Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil, Nate Berkus. And now chef Art Smith has landed a show on Tlc. Smith is well-known as Oprah's personal chef.
Art Smith was on Bravo's Top Chef Masters last summer -- that was his audition -- and he showed himself as a homey, pleasant, unpretentious cook. For Tlc, he's going to host Craving Comfort, with the emphasis on Southern comfort food.

TLC is expanding its culinary-themed programming with a new series starring master chef Art Smith.
Smith ("Top Chef Masters") will host "Craving Comfort," where he'll travel the country exploring variations of simple, popular dishes -- from fried chicken to apple pie.
“'Craving Comfort' celebrates the great personal stories behind America’s classic comfort foods," said Nancy Daniels, senior vp production at Tlc. "Art Smith’s passion for great food and the personal connections we form to these meals makes him the perfect host for this journey."
The new series adds to Tlc's lineup of food-related programming that includes the upcoming "BBQ Pitmasters" (debuting Dec. 3), "Ultimate Cake Off" and its highly rated "Cake Boss" -- which will inherit the Monday spot vacated by "Jon & Kate Plus 8" after its series finale Monday night.

Of course, Art Smith and his chicken won.
The chef to the stars recently booked a spot on the champions round of Bravo cooking show Top Chef Masters as he did what he does best - fry some chicken. Talking to the cabler, Smith revealed the dining secrets of some of his most famous clientele, the Obama's and Oprah, arguably the most powerful bunch in America today. Smith is Oprah's personal chef for 10 years.

One thing that has separated Top Chef Masters from its predecessor is that these master chefs--for the most part, anyway--really do seem to love and support one another in a way that the hungry chefs on Top Chef really don't seem to do. This week's episode of Top Chef Masters ("Trick In A Box") could have been a prime opportunity for the chefs to stab each other in the back but the elimination challenge--in which Art Smith, Jonathan Waxman, Roy Yamaguchi, and Michael Cimarusti all had to shop for one another and prepare a mystery box of ingredients--resulted not in sabotage and subterfuge, but rather a celebration of both ingredients and one another. Aw. I thought that this week's gathering of master chefs was one of the toughest groups yet and each of them had some major strengths they were playing for, plus they each had such different, individual styles of cooking.
