Different indeed! Renée Zellweger sports a brunette do in her latest film, Same Kind of Different As Me, based on Ron Hall, Denver Moore and Lynn Vincent’s bestselling memoir of the same name.

In hopes of moving one step closer to repairing the damage, Zellweger, as the pious Deborah, requests her husband volunteer at an inner city homeless shelter where they meet an underprivileged man (Djimon Hounsou) she believes will change their lives. "You're not a bad man, and I'm glad we're friends." Paramount has debuted the trailer for a drama called Same Kind of Different as Me, adapted from the memoirs of Denver Moore, Ron Hall & Lynn Vincent, about the lives of three people bound together by fate and friendship. The film stars Renée Zellweger in her first major role (aside from Bridget Jones's Baby) in years, Greg Kinnear, and Djimon Hounsou; along with Jon Voight, Olivia Holt, Ty Parker and others. This looks like an emotional, heartfelt story of friends and family, but some of it looks pretty bland and melodramatic. They're also dumping this during the Oscar season meaning it's not that great, but at least Djimon Hounsou looks exceptional. Give it a watch. Here's the first official trailer for Michael Carney's Same Kind of Different as Me, direct from YouTube: A modern-day slave, an international art dealer, and...

One of the under-discussed success of 2014 (but one that won’t go unnoticed in Hollywood) is "Heaven Is for Real," the adaptation of Lynn Vincent’s New York Times Bestseller. The true story of a kid’s near death experience and the visions of the afterlife he bestowed to his parents grossed over $90 million at the domestic box office, a huge hit for Sony Pictures and a career highlight for star Greg Kinnear. Those numbers must have instilled some faith in the actor: He’ll star alongside Renee Zellweger and Djimon Hounsou in the next Vincent adaptation, “Same Kind of Different As Me.” According to a press release announcing the cast, Paramount Pictures's tongue-twisting drama tells the true story of “an international art dealer Ron Hall (Kinnear) who must befriend a dangerous homeless man (Hounsou) in order to save his struggling marriage to his wife (Zellweger), a woman whose...

When it comes to faith-based movies at the box office, “Heaven Is for Real” is the latest to show that smaller may be better, at least in terms of return on investment. The drama, based on the 2010 best-selling Christian book written by Kansas pastor Todd Burpo and conservative author Lynn Vincent, scored an Easter weekend surprise with its strong $21.5 million three-day haul, and has taken in more than $28 million since opening on Wednesday. It's rare when a film adaptation lives up the book it was based on so with that in mind I have compiled a list of 40 books that have been adapted for the big screen that we can expect to see in theaters this year. This includes two books from Gillian Flynn, young adult adaptations of work by Veronica Roth, Suzanne Collins and James Dashner, a short story from Dennis Lehane, a Nick Hornby adaptation, and an adaptation written by Nick Hornby, a new John le Carre adaptation and a prequel to the stories written by Tom Clancy as well as a couple comics and graphic novel adaptations from the likes of Frank Miller and Hiroshi Sakurazaka and Alexander O. Smith. I've added everything I could think of and while I'm sure I missed a few, please forgive me and hopefully you'll find something that appeals to your taste on the list.

Whether or not you consider yourself a religious person, you've probably heard of the book Heaven Is For Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip To Heaven and Back. It recounts the tale of four-year-old Nebraskan Colton Burpo, who bewildered his parents when he told them he had visited with departed loved ones and Jesus in heaven. Colton's father, Christian pastor Todd Burpo, translated this into a book with the help of journalist Lynn Vincent. The resulting bestseller is the basis for the Greg Kinnear vehicle above, which has him playing the part of Pastor Burpo. In 2003, Colton was a chipper toddler when he was abruptly laid low by appendicitis and rushed into emergency surgery. Some counted his survival as a miracle. But following this brush with death, Colton began to share strange stories with his parents. As you can see in the trailer up top, Colton...

According to Variety, Randall Wallace (who made the narrative mess that is Secretariat) is set to craft a film version of Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent’s “Heaven is For Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back.” The book made waves by 1) claiming to be a true account of a 3-year-old’s story that he went to Heaven during an emergency surgery to save his life and 2) for dominating the Best Seller lists. So what’s in Heaven? Angels, of course, as well as a horse that only Jesus can ride, an enormous God and exactly zero eyeglasses. Burpo, the boy’s father, contends that the child mentions details about their family that he had no way of knowing without actually visiting Heaven and visiting with them. The child never mentions that God is made out of Terry Gilliam cut-out pieces. As acknowledged before, Christianity...

Well, this is a bit unexpected. Randall Wallace, the writer behind such manly fare as "Braveheart," "Pearl Harbor," and "We Were Soldiers" (which he also directed), seems to be showing a softer side of late. A couple of years ago, he delivered the wholesome Disney horseracing movie "Secretariat," and now he's lined up a movie about a little kid who goes to heaven. We're not fucking kidding. Variety reports that Wallace has signed up to develop an adaptation of Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent's best-selling book "Heaven Is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back." The apparently based-on-a-true-story tale follows a little kid who has a near-death experience, and claims to have visited heaven. Naturally, no one believes him in the small town where he lives, but he soon starts mentioning details about the various folks who have passed away. Get out the hankies.

We Were Soldiers and Secretariat director Randall Wallce is set to develop a faith-based drama for Sony Pictures called Heaven is Real. The movie is based on a book written by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent, called Heaven Is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back.
This is definitely a different kind of film for Wallace who also wrote Braveheart and Pearl Harbor, the latter of which wasn't his best work. The book tells the true story behind Burpo's son's near-death experience and subsequent claim that he visited heaven. His family and the members of his small town do not believe him until his stories identify people who have passed away.
I can see a movie like this being a big hit. It's based on a true story, it's interesting, and there's an epic faith-based market out there for this kind of film.
