Hightown, set in beautiful but bleak Cape Cod, follows one woman’s journey to sobriety, overshadowed by an unfolding murder investigation. Monica Raymund stars as Jackie Quiñones, a hard-partying National Marine Fisheries Service agent, who has her free-wheeling life thrown into disarray when she discovers a body on the beach – another casualty of Cape Cod’s opioid epidemic. To deal with the trauma, Jackie takes the first steps toward sobriety— until she becomes convinced it’s up to her to solve the murder. James Badge Dale also stars along with Riley Voelkel, Shane Harper, Amaury Nolasco and Atkins Estimond.

Bette Midler headlined New York’s World Pride main event Saturday night at the Javits Center in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Stonewall. During her performance of her 1973 hit single “Friends” accompanied by composer Marc Shaiman of Hairspray fame, she took a moment to bite back at President Trump.
“Now I’m going to tell you a little secret,” she told the crowd, teasing that she was surprised she was invited to the event because Trump recently called her a “washed-up psycho.” “Just two weeks ago, I was a washed-up psycho.

Starz has picked up original series Wrong Man for a second season, the announcement coming the same week the Supreme Court struck down the conviction of death row inmate Curtis Flowers, whose case was examined in the series’ first season.
The six-episode second season from filmmaker Joe Berlinger re-investigates three cases of inmates who have been incarcerated for decades but claim they were wrongfully convicted of the brutal crimes.
“With Wrong Man, Joe and his team have created a format unique to the true crime genre that is both compelling for viewers and has had real life implications for the wrongfully accused individuals involved in these cases,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, Starz COO. “With a second season, we look forward to deploying our team of experts on three new cases, to continue to explore whether justice was in fact served.

You know him and hate him as the loud-mouthed financial superstar portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street. Well get ready, gang, because Jordan Belfort is potentially coming to television in a reality show currently getting shopped around the networks. It makes sense, because if anyone could embody the unofficial slogan of the reality TV world, “I’m not here to make friends,” it’s probably Belfort. While audiences have been enthralled with Belfort’s story told through the Martin Scorsese film (or not), fellow rich guy and Electus CEO Chris Grant read the source material — Belfort’s memoir of the same name — and saw a natural born star in his real-life version. You see, he’s not just the man who scammed investors out of $110 million throughout the 1990s and partied with a guy who probably looked vaguely like Jonah Hill, he’s now a “successful motivational speaker” living and working out of...

Jordan Belfort has already been immortalized on the big screen thanks to Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street," but now the former investment banker/scammer wants to put his current life on display. He also plans on turning over his cut of the "Wolf" movie profits to the victims of his scams.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie, is shopping a reality TV show that would have the now 51-year-old head an "uplifting show" where he "step[s] in to help others who, like him, have hit rock bottom but still hold out some hope for redemption."
Belfort's story of Wall Street excess -- and ultimate downfall after cheating his clients -- told in his 2007 memoir caught the attention of Electus, the studio behind reality series including "Fashion Star" and "Mob Wives," which reached out to him to develop a concept for a show.

Jordan Belfort, the former financier who pulled off, in the words of EW’s review of Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, “one of the most brazen and boneheaded scams in history,” is hoping to star in a reality TV show. Electus sought the partnership with Starz after taking a look at the TV landscape and seeing a void in the unscripted space on premium cable, Electus CEO Chris Grant said. So far, reality TV’s presence on premium cable has been limited to sports documentaries (HBO’s 24/7 and Hard Knocks, Showtime’s The Franchise) and erotic fare (HBO’s Real Sex). That is not a direction Electus and Starz want to follow. “We are looking for tentpole ideas with strong dynamic characters, a little bit of danger and unprecedented access; we want to tell stories that couldn’t be told elsewhere,” Grant said, adding that he and Electus’ development team are hoping to hear from reality producers who have come up with...

That project is described as an “immersive reality series” that recreates the arduous 66-day journey of the Mayflower. The other two projects were not disclosed. “Our vision for the Mayflower series is to recreate, as closely as possible, the real experiences that the original passengers faced,” Electus CEO Chris Grant said in a statement. “With that in mind, this is the perfect way to bridge NatGeo’s brand of

The Reveille cohorts are back in business together. In one of his first major deals since taking the reins of National Geographic as president, Howard Owens has signed a three-for-one project deal with Ben Silverman’s Electus. It includes the development of three projects, one of which is guaranteed to be picked up to series. The pact reunites Silverman and new Electus CEO Chris Grant with Owens. Grant and Owens were members of the core troika Silverman brought with him when he launched Reveille in 2002. Both left Shine, which acquired Reveille in 2008, last year. “National Geographic Channel is making a targeted effort to be in business with the best and brightest television makers in the world and Ben and Chris set the standard,” Owens said. One of the three concepts in development under the deal is a large-scale reality series based on the Mayflower expedition, which will re-create the actual...

It didn't take long for new Shine Group Americas CEO Emiliano Calemzuk to put his stamp on Reveille with a major executive move. Calemzuk, who joined Shine last month, has reshuffled the top management at the Shine-owned company: co-managing director Howard T. Owens will now run the company solo as managing director, while co-managing director Mark Koops is leaving. Additionally, executive producer Robin Ashbrook has been promoted to the newly created role of Head of Non-Scripted Entertainment. Koops is pursuing a new venture, which will be announced shortly, Shine said. “This is a re-structure that will equip Reveille for the next period of its growth," Calemzuk said. In a similar fashion, 3 weeks after taking over Fox TV Studios as president in 2007, Calemzuk shook up the company's top management by axing 3 department heads. After the May 2007 departure of Reveille founder Ben Silverman to run NBC, the company was co-headed by 4 management directors,...

There was a particularly unbridled episode of Fox's "American Dad" in January in which Stan, well, gave "full release" to a racehorse. That shenanigan was duly hit with an FCC fine. But five years ago, it wouldn't even have aired.
Fade whatever is left of the family hour: It's about to get even racier out there.
Primetime TV this fall is going to be chock-a-block with even more blatant sexuality and raunchy language. It's a trend that's been a long time coming and is now accelerating.
This week, the FCC's regulations on indecency were struck down by a federal appeals court that termed them "unconstitutionally vague," essentially loosening strictures against profane language on the small screen.
And it's not just about those fleeting expletives.
The CW has been upping the quotient of sexy goings-on on "Gossip Girl" and its updated "90210"; CBS turned a blind eye, as it were, to a...

HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," a Prohibition-era period piece for which Martin Scorsese directed the pilot, is one of the hot titles to come out of the just-wrapped L.A. Screenings, the annual bazaar in which foreign TV program buyers pick and choose from among new U.S. shows for their stations abroad.
Other titles cited by a random survey of a dozen buyers who sat through the marathon screenings this past week were CBS Studios' "Hawaii Five-o" revamp, Warner Bros.' sexy spy caper "Undercovers," Disney's jungle-set medical drama "Off the Map" and Fox's politically incorrect sitcom "Bob's Burgers."
In some cases, buyers cited the shows they have to take anyway because they have output deals with the relevant major studio; in others, buyers fingered shows they wished they had dibs on but which go to a rival.

Ben Silverman is back in business with his old pals.
Silverman’s recently launched Electus, part of Barry Diller’s Iac, and Shine International, the international distribution arm of Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine Group, have partnered to launch Electus Distribution, a distribution entity that will handle worldwide sales for Electus’ content.
Electus Distribution will be run by Silverman and Shine International president Chris Grant. Its operations will be based at Shine International.
Shine International was built around the international distribution division of Ben Silverman’s Reveille following Shine’s $125 million acquisition of that company in early 2008.
Grant was Silverman’s first assistant at Reveille before being promoted to development executive and later given the task of launching the company’s international unit.
“Ben has been like a big brother to me ever since I was 21,” Grant said, adding that combining forces “made sense on so many levels from a personal and business perspective.

The series, which premiered in 2007, follows three eccentric gas- station employees working the graveyard shift who try to stay motivated between run-ins with wacky customers.
The Shine Group-owned Reveille is behind two successful scripted format transplants, NBC's "The Office" and ABC's "Ugly Betty," and hopes the project can find a home on a U.S. network.
