The gig will take place April 8 (three days after the album’s release) at the Moody Amphitheater in Austin, which is directly in the path of the total eclipse. To coincide with the astronomical event, Vampire Weekend will start playing at 12 p.m. Ct, with the eclipse expected to reach totality around 1:36 p.m.

Vampire Weekend make sense of how historical examples of cruelty have become “classical” with time on an upbeat new song, “Classical.” The song comes off their upcoming album Only God Was Above Us, due out April 5.
Between frontman Ezra Koenig’s catchy, squeaky guitar melody and Henry Solomon’s wild saxophone solo, Koenig sings about war, peace, and abandoned ruins of temples, describing history as “a bleak sunrise.” The music sort of falls apart at the end, on purpose.

‘Booksmart’ Review: Olivia Wilde’s Directorial Debut is an Episodic, Yet Affecting Ode to Friendship
The universality of the reminiscence bump – the oft-researched theory that throughout one’s life, people have the most vivid memories from the ages of 16 to 25 – has meant there has been no period of time that has been more thoroughly dissected in cinema. Screenwriters have repeatedly drawn from that roller coaster of youthful emotions in hopes that both audiences young (those experiencing that time right now) and old will connect with what is seen on screen. Despite a rocky, over-the-top start, Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut Booksmart eventually manages to succeed on both fronts, feeling like a pointedly progressive snapshot of today’s generation while also bringing an earned sentimentality when it comes to the highs and lows of high school friendship.
On the eve of graduation, booksmart Molly (Beanie Feldstein) and Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) are hit with a crippling realization: their isolated lives of studious dedication up to this point have all been for naught.

Third Eye Blind and Jimmy Eat World will hit the road together for what the Nineties rock acts have dubbed the Summer Gods Tour.
“The most scintillating, inspiring collective moments of my life have been outdoors in the summer exploding with music,” Third Eye Blind singer Stephan Jenkins said in a statement. “Those sensations travel from when I was a little kid and rock music was brand new to our last Summer Gods tour, when everything is magically new again. I seek to create that exact blissed-out state of aliveness on tour this summer.

The weather is getting warmer (well, for some of us), and the days are getting longer. With spring less than two weeks away, it's already time to start thinking about the perfect songs for those poolside frolics. Luckily, there are a handful of freshly released tracks that are fitting for the kickoff to a hopeful resurgence of sunlight, and People is bringing that list to you right here. The Knocks - the electro pop act who released their Comfortable Ep earlier this year - are featured twice on the list, enlisting vocals by Ra Ra Riot on "Savior," and Sneaky Sound System on "The One.

Imaginary Cities, the brainchild of Marti Sarbit and Rusty Matyas, took Canada by storm in 2011 with its debut release, Temporary Resident. The band toured extensively through 2012 in support of the album, which received much critical acclaim, and opened for the likes of the Pixies and Ra Ra Riot. 2013 brought the release of Imaginary Cities’ second album, Fall of Romance, and it doesn’t disappoint. The lead single, “Bells of Cologne”, displays many of the band’s strong suits and you can check out the premiere of the video for the single in the player below. The running percussion lines...

Alt-rock trio the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have had it up to here with inconsiderate concertgoers. No, not attendees starting fires or hurting each other. In 2013, the most annoying are people filming the concert with a crummy smartphone cameras, thus forcing many attendees behind them to watch the concert they paid money to see through a tiny screen.
At a headlining show on Sunday night at New York's Webster Hall, the band took issue with iPhones and their ilk. According to Spin, the band posted some rather blunt advice for fans attending the show with a sign above the venues door, that read in part: "Please Do Not Watch The Show Through A Screen On Your Smart Device/Camera." Watch out for the Nsfw language below:
Spin's tweet featuring the sign, which read "We wish every band posted show rules like @YYYs [Yeah Yeah Yeahs]," was retweeted over 800 times and met with near unanimous agreement.

5) Melody’s Echo Chamber “Crystallized”

First on the list this week is the latest from Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker and French singer Melody Prochet. This video features a heavy use of disorienting edits which suits the lofi-esque track really well. The deadpan performances provided by Melody help transform a slightly boring concept into a cool, visually interesting video.
4) Ra Ra Riot “Dance With Me”
The Brooklyn-based indie pop band Ra Ra Riot get chased by a bunch of zombie-skeletons in their latest video “Dance With Me”. This is a somewhat scary concept but juxtaposed by an upbeat track makes the video fun and entertaining. The video consists of quirky, Diy, cut-and-paste visuals that are really refreshing.
3) Atoms For Peace “Ingenue”
Directed by Garth Jenkins
Ever since Radiohead’s video for “Lotus Flower” emerged, people around the world have longed for more videos of Thom Yorke’s mesmerising dancing.

If your heart beats fast for Ra Ra Riot, the string-heavy indie band whose album "Beta Love" was released last month, get ready to break out those dance moves. Huffington Post Arts&Culture is pleased to premiere André Allen Anjos' remix of the band's title track, which may be even more catchier than the original.
"Beta Love" is inspired by cyperpunk novelist William Gibson and futurist Ray Kurzweil; the album propels the band's bittersweet indie tone into the future with unsettling sci-fi lyrics and technologically savvy tunes. André Allen Anjos of Rac, the remix artist collective, does what we never thought possible: made Ra Ra Riot's title song even more danceable. Check it out and let us know if you think Anjos enhanced Ra Ra's riotous hit.

Another week, another round of critical smack downs.
This week in music, Welsh alternative group The Joy Formidable made an energetic return with their album "Wolf's Law." The album was praised for showcasing the musical talents of the group's members, but the sound was apparently extremely predictable, frustrating critics who were hoping for a little more. Singer Toro y Moi presented perfect pop music with "Anything In Return." Still, a lack of emotion derailed the otherwise strong project. Ra Ra Riot's "Beta Love" premiered to some of the worst reviews of the week, while Gary Allan's "Set You Free" was praised for its classic-sounding tracks.
In movies, "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" left a lot to be desired, falling short of the film's hype. The greatest complaints came in the movie's overly detailed storyline that left many viewers a tad overwhelmed. The comedy "John Dies at the End...

It's one thing to play a hometown gig. It's quite another to play a hometown gig and teach the music and music-business classes you took as an undergrad just six years ago.
That's exactly the situation Ra Ra Riot were in earlier this month, when they returned to Syracuse, New York -- the chilly upstate city where the band formed as Syracuse University students in 2006 -- to do a week-long residency, teaching classes and capping it off with a sold-out, student-promoted concert.

Honestly, as much as I'm loving this season, I'm not happy with where "Game of Thrones" is taking Dany. I'm an avid fan of George R.R. Martin's source material but not a stickler or purist who believes his novels must be adapted to the letter. Still, the liberties taken with Dany in Qarth, this week in particular, feel needless and damaging to who the character is.
We'll get deeper into that later in our recap. Keep reading for more updates from Westeros, most of them blood-soaked and reeking of death — with one lovely exception.

This week my brother came down to visit me and enjoy some beautiful sun and beach time before getting through the rest of spring. Not that spring itself is bad, but spring in Maryland is almost completely unpredictable and prone to violent mood swings so that one week you'll be wearing shorts and tee shirts and the next week you'll be dragging out the heavy coats and snow boots again. The trip went great, however late last night there was a fire at Miami International Airport, which is known as the seventh circle of hell on a Good day and I've a giant portion of my morning on the phone with airlines, family members, and airlines again trying to sort out how and when he's going to get back to Baltimore. I feel bad for the airline people because honestly they're probably having a worse day than I am, but...

Now is about the time of month I actually start to try and figure out what I'm going to be buying people for Christmas which I realizes is probably not the best plan. Part of the problem is that, since I grew up around the mid-East Coast I have a hard time accepting the idea that Christmas is around the corner when the weather here is still (mostly) mild and sunny. The other problem is that I'm a very list oriented person, so I put all the more immediate things (finals, papers, work, bills, eating, etc.) on my mental list before Christmas shopping so by the time I get down to it I'm usually out of money and running the risk of all the good gifts being sold out. So, if I'm supposed to be buying you a present for Christmas this year, my sincere apologies and here's your Tuesday...

If you like Vampire Weekend, you'll love Ra Ra Riot. That's a tag line that's probably followed the latter indie rock band wherever they go, unrightfully so. The two bands, who both broke through the indie rock scene two years ago or so, have some songs that sound similar but other than being young and indie, that's where the comparison dies. New York Magazine got that, calling their sophomore effort, the August-released The Orchard, "poised to become the soundtrack of your life." True that, but my job isn't to plug the band. It's to chat with them. Last week I spoke with the band's lead singer Wes Miles and bassist Mathieu Santos (the rest of the mostly Syracuse, NY natives include guitarist Milo Bonacci, drummer Gabriel Duquette, violinist Rebecca Zeller, and cellist Alexandra Lawn) and asked them about touring...

HollywoodNews.com: I love it when bands surprise me. For someone who thought Ra Ra Riot were like a lesser Vampire Weekend with a string section after 2008’s so-so The Rhumb Line, I was ready to push through The Orchard and let it down gently. Then I listened to it, and lo and behold, a band I had written off ends up backhanding me across the face with one of the better albums I’ve heard all year. Previous fans of the band will no doubt be delighted to hear that singer Wes Miles still sounds like Ezra Koenig, if a little more prone to falsetto, and that the band’s bouncy brand of pop-rock is still very much in evidence (just check out that Add bass line on uber-catchy single “Boy”). But whereas The Rhumb Line was all meaty melodies and festival-ready sing-a-longs, The Orchard feels...
All good things must come to an end and it looks like Katy Perry might be the one to stop Eminem's record-setting run at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart. As expected, Perry's Teenage Dream will block Eminem from lodging his eighth week at #1 on next week's Billboard chart by selling 192,000 copies of her second official major label album, or more than four times as many as her first disc, One of the Boys, sold (47,000) in its first week two years ago.
According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, Perry isn't the only one who bested Eminem. Former "American Idol" winner Fantasia bounces back from a dark personal period that included a recent suicide attempt by landing at #2 with Back to Me on...

Ra Ra Riot’s sophomore disc, The Orchard, offers every bit of the rolling rural hills that its title suggests; with sky-wide, spacious arrangements, it’s a cool autumn cruise through the Adirondacks with the top down. Unfortunately, the record is too much forest and too few breathtaking mountaintop vistas. When the New York quintet really lets things soar off into the expanse, it makes beautiful, compelling music: “Boy” is a rollicking, bass-and-drum-driven number that waxes and wanes with an orchestral swell; “Shadowcasting” thumps to its own racing, uplifting pulse, swirling together clangy guitars and stringed crescendos before taking off ...

Music In a world populated by flannel-clad indie rockers carrying around dog-eared paperbacks in their back pockets, Syracuse’s Ra Ra Riot is a welcome change of pace. The band's sophomore album, The Orchard, out August 24, comes on the heels of 2008’s The Rhumb Line, which was released after the sudden death, by apparent drowning, of the band’s original drummer, John Pike. The Orchard is packed with percipient pop songs driven by guitarist Milo Bonacci’s keyed-up guitar licks and lead singer Wes Miles’s high-pitched disquisitions on life, love, and dodgy social skills. Have we mentioned that cellist Alexandra Lawn and violinist Rebecca Zeller are a couple of string-sawing babes? rarariot.com...

If you’re in an indie-rock band and you don’t have some affiliation with a cat, it’s time to get on the ball. With the release of the music video for its new song “Boy,” which features kittens in a parking lot, Ra Ra Riot becomes the latest band to utilize the apparent hipster appeal of felines after Best Coast, Wavves and Klaxons all featured cats prominently on their album art....

New York's Ra Ra Riot spent much of 2009 touring, both on their own and with Death Cab For Cutie before retiring to focus on writing songs. The place they chose to do it holds special meaning for the band -- a peach farm upstate, and it was there that they conceived their second full-length album, "The Orchard."
"We moved into the farmhouse and were planning on spending a month there to work on, and develop song ideas that had accumulated over nearly two years on the road," guitarist Milo Bonacci explained. "The house itself very much represents the beginning stages of Ra Ra Riot; some of our first songs were conceived there, and it was here that plans were hatched to even start a band in the first place."

The celebratory release day of Drake's full-length debut album Thank Me Later ended on a bit of a sour note, as a free show at New York City's South Street Seaport was shut down by the New York City Police Department because of crowd control and safety concerns. The good news was that an estimated 10,000 fans crowded into the space to try to get a glimpse of the rapper. When you combine that with the crowd that showed up to an autograph session at a New York Best Buy a few hours earlier, it looks like the fervor surrounding one of the most talked-about young stars in hip-hop is wholly justifiable as far as the fans are concerned.
For a dude with music as mellow as Drake's, it's a little bit weird that he finds himself in such strange company as a guy who has inspired a riot. Everybody knows about the chaos at Altamont,...
