Matt LeBlanc is well known for his iconic role in Friends. But little would fans know that he was also offered to star in another renowned sitcom, Modern Family, which ran for about 11 seasons (2009-2020).
Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani
It would have been a great opportunity for the actor to relive his peak comedy phase once again, but he chose to turn it down. As for the reason, the actor believed that he was not the right one for the project.
Matt LeBlanc Was Offered to Play Phil Dunphy in Modern Family
Matt LeBlanc rose to prominence by playing the goofy role of Joey Tribbiani on Friends. The immense popularity of the main characters, especially Joey led to a spin-off, which failed to skyrocket like its predecessor, leading to its cancellation.

As this slow broadcast network pilot season continues, ABC has ordered its second comedy pilot of the year: “Forgive and Forget,” a multi-camera comedy set to star Emmy-winning “Modern Family” alum Ty Burrell.
Burrell is also on board as an executive producer (through his Desert Whale Prods. shingle) on “Forgive and Forget,” while Eugene Garcia-Cross is writer/exec producer and Robin Shorr is on board as showrunner and exec producer. 20th Television is behind the project, which stars Burrell as Hank, a perennial “life of the party.” According to the logline, Hank gets an unexpected diagnosis, leading him to reconnect with his responsible adult son Ben.
ABC has also ordered the comedy pilot “Shifting Gears,” starring Tim Allen, for this season. That means both of the network’s comedy pilots are multi-camera sitcoms from 20th TV starring veteran ABC stars.

Ty Burrell is returning to ABC.
The two-time Emmy-winning Modern Family star has been tapped to star in Forgive and Forget, a multicamera comedy that has been ordered to pilot at the Disney-owned broadcast network.
From writer Eugene Garcia-Cross (The Santa Clauses, Peacock’s Punky Brewster), Forgive and Forget revolves around Hank (Burrell), the perennial life of the party, who, after an unexpected diagnosis, reconnects with his responsible adult son Ben in hopes of making new memories together.
Garcia-Cross, a 2018 graduate of NBC’s Writers on the Verge program, will also exec produce alongside Robin Shorr (Diary of a Future President, The Carmichael Show, Galavant, The Middle), who will serve as showrunner on the potential series. Burrell will also executive produce via his Desert Whale Productions banner. Forgive and Forget is produced by Disney’s 20th Television, the same studio that delivered mega-hit Modern Family.

Last week, the 2024 SAG Awards reunited casts from beloved TV shows and movies including Modern Family, Breaking Bad and The Devil Wears Prada.
While the Modern Family reunion was missing the children from the hit ABC sitcom, the grown-up gathering did include Ty Burrell, who famously missed a previous time the cast gathered since the show wrapped.
Speaking on Friday’s Tonight Show, Jesse Tyler Ferguson said he insisted that Burrell show up after his absence at the last reunion sparked concerns from fans that something had happened to the actor who played Phil Dunphy.
“When the SAG Awards happened, he was supposed to do something else,” Ferguson said. “I was like, ‘Ty! You can’t miss it again! People will really think you’re dead!’ It’s like, ‘We need to present you to show you that you’re not dead!’ So he made it.”

The cast of Modern Family got back together again, and Sofia Vergara is sharing so many photos!
On Wednesday (November 16), the 51-year-old actress, who played Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the beloved sitcom, hopped on social media to share a bunch of photos from the cast’s “first” reunion.
It’s worth pointing out that the reunion was not complete. One notable star was missing, though their costars found a way to make them feel included.

“Modern Family” has landed a cable run at Warner Bros. Discovery’s TBS network starting Sept. 25.
The ABC sitcom, which ran for 11 total seasons from 2009 to 2020, will air on TBS for a three-hour block on weekdays — specifically from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on weekdays. The licensing by the cable outlet marks an attempt to bolster its comedy options.
Previously, “Friends” and “Young Sheldon” have occupied the hours that “Modern Family” will run. Both shows will remain on the network. Monday saw longer daily marathons of “The Big Bang Theory” on TBS.
“Our audience continually seeks out popular comedies like ‘Friends,’ ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and ‘Modern Family,’ so now that we have all three of these iconic series on TBS, we can build an even bigger, more engaged audience,” said Julie Taylor, chief of Content Strategy & Insights, US Networks Group, Warner Bros. People who decide to stream HBO Max’s “Sex Lives of College Girls” on its ad-supported tier may be hard-pressed to determine when the show ends and when the commercials begin.
Google has signed on to be the exclusive sponsor of the second season of the program, which, as its title implies, examines young women at college navigating sexually active lifestyles. Rather than seeing typical TV commercials, subscribers will see just two 15 second spots featuring Amrit Kaus and Pauline Chalamet, two actors from the series. The hope is that viewers won’t feel like the show is being interrupted because they’ll get to see more content with its stars.
“Streaming platforms offer new opportunities for us to be far more relevant than we were in the traditional linear environment, and that’s where we are going to go,” says Garrick Schmitt, executive vice president of global experience design at Essence,...

Steven Levitan Would Need A 'Compelling Creative Reason' To Make A Modern Family Revival [Exclusive]
"Modern Family" is a solid comfort show. It's got heartfelt moments, cheesy jokes, low stakes, and a slew of loveable characters. Sure, a few of the family members can be annoying at times, but they have enough redeeming scenes that it's tempting to stick with them even when they're being annoying — just like family. And considering the episodes' relatively short length, nothing can ever go too wrong. It's a great escape, especially when the world gets a little too stressful — who doesn't love to see a big, happy, close-knit family?
With such a strong formula and a charismatic cast, it's no wonder that "Modern Family" did so well. Sure, the award-winning earlier seasons set a high standard that later episodes struggled to live up to, but things never felt like they were dragging on. All in all, "Modern Family" handled its eleven-season run pretty well. Luckily for fans, the episodes have pretty good replay value,...

Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams's wedding doubled as a "Modern Family" reunion, but one important cast member was noticeably absent from the soirée: Ty Burrell. The actor, who portrayed Hyland's onscreen father Phil Dunphy in the sitcom, was originally chosen to officiate the ceremony in Santa Ynez, CA, on Aug. 20, but Jesse Tyler Ferguson, aka "Modern Family"'s Uncle Mitchell, stepped in at the last minute to replace him. Thanks to Ferguson, we now have details on why the swap happened.
"I don't know if people know this, but Ty Burrell was meant to do it, and there was a family emergency," Ferguson told Entertainment Tonight at a screening for his new film "Ivy + Bean" on Aug. 29. "So, I got a phone call 12 days before the wedding, and that's why Ty wasn't there, he had stuff going on. . . . I had 12 days,...
