Hulu was one of the first streaming services on the market, and over the years, it also endured as one of the best in the game — home to a robust and diverse library, including a healthy chunk of the best 20th Century and Searchlight movies, standout original Hulu movies like “Fresh” and “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,” next-day episodes from countless hit broadcast shows, FX series, and plenty of other must-watch shows and films from throughout the years (being one of the first in the game means Hulu also has a lot of great distribution contracts). And that’s without even touching the potential for add-on subscriptions.
In short, there are a lot of good movies to watch on Hulu so we’ve put together a handy list to help you stop scrolling and start watching — we even made the titles clickable so you can get right to it.

Every year, the /Film crew gathers together to debate, argue, and sometimes even agree on the 50 best moments of the year in cinema. The result: a mammoth list celebrating the best movie moments of the past 12 months. Incredible moments from great movies. Amazing scenes in overlooked films. Brilliant specks in otherwise bad films. They're all here, and they all represent a year that saw Hollywood and international cinema alike bounce back from the pandemic and deliver a slate of films that reminded us why we love this medium so much in the first place. Let's finally close the book on 2022 in style: with wood puppets and fighter jets, with multiverse-jumping and grisly horror kills, with "Rrr" and, well, "Rrr."
Naturally, this article is full of spoilers. To the brim. Overflowing, even. If it was released in 2022, it could be spoiled in the list below. Proceed with caution.

Our year-end coverage continues with a look at the best performances of 2022. Rather than divide categories into supporting or lead or by gender, we’ve written about our 35 favorites, period. Find our countdown below and start watching the ones you’ve missed here.
35. The Ensemble of Funny Pages
Owen Kline’s Funny Pages may be the sweatiest, stinkiest, most stress-inducing film you’ll ever watch, and you’ll be happy about it. Daniel Zolghadri (believably manipulative) plays a pushy, privileged teen who dreams of being a cartoonist, but the weirdo script buzzes largely thanks to an offbeat supporting cast. Standouts include Stephen Adly Guirgis as a larger-than-life art teacher, Miles Emanuel as a geeky deadpan Bff, Marcia Debonis as a cheeky public defender, and Michael Townsend Wright and Cleveland Thomas Jr. as the illegal basement apartment roommates from hell. But Matthew Maher, playing an unstable former comic book colorist our protagonist tries coercing into mentorship,...

The Pitch: Kyle Gallner has been a utility player in genre films for over 20 years, appearing in films like "The Haunting in Connecticut," "Jennifer's Body," the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" remake, and Kevin Smith's "Red State." He had a small-but-mighty role in the most recent "Scream" film, and is currently spooking up audiences in the smash-hit "Smile." However, it was the 2020 festival darling, "Dinner in America," that gave Gallner the space to turn out a career-best (so far) performance. Photo: ‘Dinner in America’ Overview Originally released in 2020, ‘Dinner in America’ hit theaters on May 27th of 2022. Categorized as a comedy, this film follows Simon (portrayed by Kyle Gallner) and Patty (portrayed by Emily Skeggs). Simon is a stereotypical punk – he plays in a band, deals drugs, does drugs, and doesn’t go more than an hour without smoking a cigarette. Patty, on the other hand, is a 20-year-old pet store employee that gets bullied, lives in the decaying midwestern suburbs of America, and spends her free time writing love letters to a mysterious singer of a punk band. When their lives clash during a police chase, Patty lets Simon crash at her parents’ house to hide from the law. Over the course of a week, the two get to know each other in some unexpected ways. Born from a decision to combine two aughts-era sketches that weren’t quite working on their own, filmed in 2018, and debuted in 2020 at Sundance, writer-director Adam Rehmeier would be forgiven for just being happy Dinner in America is finally hitting the public. The result is more than the culmination of a lengthy artistic gestation, though—its content, humor, and heart all merge to deliver a piece with the potential for cult appeal that transcends the act itself. It’s a treatise on America, the blurred line between taboo and cruelty, and our collective fear of real individuality despite claims by both sides of the aisle to foster freedom. The outcasts get their day.

One of the more entertaining films I saw back at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival was the punk rock rom-com Dinner in America. Directed by Adam Carter Rehmeier, the film has now finally received U.S. distribution via the newly-launched company Best & Final Releasing. Ahead of a theatrical release on May 27 and on June 7, the new trailer and poster have now arrived.
The film follows an on-the-lam punk rocker (Kyle Gallner) and a young woman (Emily Skeggs) obsessed with his band who go on an unexpected and epic journey together through the decaying suburbs of the American Midwest. Also starring Griffin Gluck, Pat Healy, Mary Lynn Rajskub, David Yow, Hannah Marks, Nick Chinlund, and Lea Thompson, see the trailer below.

Emily Skeggs has been acting professionally for about a decade, and she hasn’t let a moment of that time go to waste. Throughout her career, she has made it very clear that she’s capable of playing a wide variety of roles. Her dedication to her craft is something to be admired and she puts 100% into everything she does. She is most recognizable from her roles in movies like The Miseducation of Cameron Post and Mile 22. Even though she doesn’t have the longest list of on-screen acting credits, she is a prime example of the importance of quality over

Romantic comedies rely on the chemistry between the leading duo, in order to work and be believed. Well, in the case of alternative genre movie Dinner in America, that much was given – as when we had the pleasure of interview the stars Kyle Gallner and Emily Skeggs, they appear to have hit it off, and it’s that friendship and dynamic that lent itself to the narrative so well.
We discuss their characters, the importance in accepting people for who they are and celebrating our differences, while we also ask about producer Ben Stiller’s involvement, and of course we ask Gallner about his forthcoming role in the next Scream movie…

One of the more entertaining films I saw back at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival was the punk rock rom-com Dinner in America. Directed by Adam Rehmeier and produced by Ben Stiller and Ross Putman, the film surprisingly still hasn’t been picked up for a U.S. release, but it’s now arriving in the U.K. and the first trailer has landed for the occasion.
In a dreary Midwestern suburb, aggro punk rocker Simon (Kyle Gallner) finds himself on the run again after a bout of arson and a close call with the police. A chance encounter with the spirited and socially awkward Patty (Emily Skeggs) provides him a place to lay low. As the two embark on a series of misadventures, they begin to realize they have a lot more in common than they first expected.
Watch below.
Dinner in America is now available digitally in the UK.

Written and directed by Adam Carter Rehmeier (The Bunny Game), Dinner in America is the tale of Patty (Emily Skeggs) and Simon (Kyle Gallner), the latter of whom is a punk rocker, and the former, a female fan obsessed with his band. The two, against all odds and types, fall in love, and drift around the suburbs of the midwest. It’s a love story, but it’s also full of punk-rock indie sensibilities, with an edge that makes it feel unpredictable but still charming.

A troubled punk singer and his biggest fan get into a series of scrapes in Adam Rehmeier’s likable indie dramedy
“Is weird cool?” “In your case, no.” This pert exchange summarises the style of writer-director Adam Rehmeier’s indie dramedy, with two very good lead performers whose unexpected chemistry gradually makes this film likable. It’s about an angry punk singer with a pyromania fetish and a lonely and nerdy young woman with Adhd who is his biggest fan.
Kyle Gallner plays John Q Public (real name: Simon), the lead singer of a band called Psy Ops who performs anonymously in a balaclava; off-stage, he has a vocal-fry badass voice, like Ray Liotta in GoodFellas. Simon is experiencing furious musical differences with the rest of the band and is making money through selling weed and taking part in big pharma medical experiments. Emily Skeggs is excellent as quirky, dreamy Patty,...

Adam Rehmeier's Dinner In America is a punk-spirited romance with an anarchic energy that sees anti-hero Simon (Kyle Gallner) strike up an offbeat friendship with Patty (Emily Skeggs), a girl he meets by chance but who has a deeper connection to him than either of them first realise. Spiky comedy is blended with sweetness as the pair forge a connection, make some beautiful music together and raise a fair bit of hell in the process. The film stars Keean Johnson as Marcus, Madeline Brewer as the girl with the eyes, along with Ariela Barer, Ian Gomez, Oliver Cooper, Emily Skeggs, and Carol Mansell. Nightstream 2020 Review: Dinner In America, A Sweetly Chaotic Molotov Cocktail Of Dirty Punk Romance
When rough and tumble mysterious stranger Simon (Kyle Gallner) crosses paths with the socially awkward Patty (Emily Skeggs), they form an unusual bond that sends them careening toward chaos, and loving every minute of it in Adam Rehmeier's Sundance breakout feature, Dinner in America. We meet Simon in the process of getting kicked out of a pharmaceutical study, after which he promptly hooks up with a fellow drug study exile, heading back to her place for one of the most uncomfortable family dinners ever. When Simon's meal ticket's mother comes onto him, the whole family explodes and chases him out. Not the silent type, Simon takes off, but not without leaving a trail of flames...

With the 2020 Fantasia Film Festival wrapping up this week, here’s a look at the final three films this writer had the opportunity to screen during the virtual fest (and enjoyed immensely), including Natasha Kermani’s Lucky, Dinner in America from writer/director Adam Rehmeier, and Minor Premise, which was co-written and directed by Eric Schultz.
Lucky: If Natasha Kermani had been contemplating other titles for her latest film project, Gaslighting: The Movie would have been a wholly appropriate, albeit a very on-the-nose, choice as well. But Lucky works pretty damn well, too, as it is in reference to a moment in the film when the main character, May, is informed by her manager/agent that she should consider herself “lucky” after a professional opportunity works out to her advantage, instead of congratulating her for all of her hard work. There are bits of “Repo Man,” “Napoleon Dynamite” and other literally or just philosophically “punk rock” cult comedies in the DNA of Adam Carter Rehmeier’s rude yet ingratiating “Dinner in America” — and mercifully none whatsoever here of his 2011 first feature “The Bunny Game,” a shrilly monotonous “extreme” horror for which all is now forgiven. This rambunctious mix of anarchic humor and misfit romance is not always inspired in the writing department, but its uneven qualities are mostly steamrolled over by the infectiously high-energy execution.
Best of all, it’s got a knockout lead performance by Kyle Gallner (soon to headline CBS All Access series “Interrogation”), who turns an admittedly showy role into something quite likely to become the favorite movie character ever for a small but fervent minority. As the saying goes, a star is born. Though unlikely to risk a major commercial breakout, there are enough other assets...

The eyeglasses Patty (Emily Skeggs) wears in the film are one of the more integral props in Dinner in America. They amplify the size of her eyes, enhance every nervous tic, really give the audience a clearer window into how she processes the world around her. On the happy accident side […]...

While its details might sound as though they were taken out of a Gillian Flynn novel, the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard is, in fact, a true story. With The Act, Hulu is turning the real-life case into the first installation of its true-crime anthology series. The season features a talented cast that includes Patricia Arquette and Joey King as the leading characters. The show draws out the emotional narrative between Dee Dee and her daughter Gypsy Rose, who, after years of being the object of her mother's Munchausen syndrome by proxy, resorts to murder. The story isn't black and white, and it's tragic and terrifying in equal measures. Here are the dark facts of the case that viewers should know before watching the series.

Marcia Gay Harden and Emily Skeggs became inseparable on the set of “Love You to Death,” a Lifetime movie about a protective mother (Harden) who manipulates her daughter (Skeggs) to the brink of violence. The two leads became so close that when Skeggs fell sick during a long day of shooting, Harden was ready with wine, a cheese spread, and a drawn bath at Skegg’s hotel room.
The bond Harden and Skeggs developed over 18 days of filming was similar to the love between a mother and a daughter, but not quite like the duo they portrayed.
“It was truly beautiful,” Skeggs told TheWrap’s Thom Geier of Harden’s gesture at a Q&A on Monday following a screening of the tv film that premiered earlier this year. “I felt like I had an incredible mentor and support system on set.”

Lifetime has unveiled the premiere dates for their robust slate of winter movies. From music icons to deadly cheerleaders to the daughter of a notorious mob boss, the network isn’t holding back when it comes to the drama — some based on true stories, some not — for 2019.
Highlights of their slate include Love You to Death (January 26) starring Marcia Gay Harden, which is based on the true story of a mother and daughter who are nothing like they seem, their tumultuous relationship ending in a brutal murder. Also based on a true story is Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story (January 19) starring Christina Ricci. The movie is inspired by Nellie Bly’s undercover stay at the impenetrable Women’s Lunatic Asylum. For something a little lighter, there’s Olivia Newton-John: Hopelessly Devoted to You (February 16) which follows the personal and professional journey of the titular Grease icon. Lifetime...

“I had a moment two years ago when I was super unhappy with the projects I was putting out,” actress Chloë Grace Moretz said at a Provincetown Film Festival event earlier this year. “I had a really rough time with the studio system and trying to get questions answered. I was confronted with these aggressively large hurdles and I was like — ‘I’m tired of trying to hurdle a system which is set up for me to fail.'”
At 21, Moretz spoke with the world-weary wisdom of that battle-hardened show business veteran that she is. After becoming a successful child actor, Moretz parlayed a string of pulpy horror movies into a career as one of the most sought-after young actresses in Hollywood. She moved into accessible comedies with “500 Days of Summer,” “Hugo,” and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” and returned to artier horror like “Let Me In” and “Carrie.

In “The Miseducation of Cameron Post,” gay Montana teens are forced into conversion therapy. And it’s likely that arthouse audiences inclined to seek out a Sundance-approved indie about Red State religious dogma will find some of its more brimstoney bits outdated or exaggerated.
But then — and perhaps you’ve also seen “The Handmaid’s Tale”? — reminders of reality will intrude.
Director Desiree Akhavan’s source material (the Ya novel by Emily Danforth) was inspired by the very true story of Zach Stark, who was sent to a Love in Action camp much like the one we see in the movie. Akhavan understands that there’s no need to amplify authenticity, and grounds her story with an admirable, if ultimately frustrating, subtlety.

On her prom night, Cameron Post (Chloë Grace Moretz) gets caught making out with her high school girlfriend in the parking lot, resulting in her parents sending her off to God’s Promise, a gay conversion therapy camp. Featuring weeks of religious gaslighting in which those in charge not only you tell you the desires of your heart are immoral, but homosexuality itself doesn’t even exist, The Miseducation of Cameron Post explores this specific experience. The latest film from Desiree Akhavan (Appropriate Behavior), based on Emily M. Danforth’s novel, FilmRise has now debuted the first trailer.
“There’s a smart sense of both humanity and humor that helps to undercut the inherent lunacy that is the foundation of the camp, especially felt in Lane and Goodluck’s performances,” I said in my review. “Pairing well with another Sundance premiere Come Sunday, which preaches the inclusive embrace at the heart of Jesus’ message,...

“Your struggle is with the sin of same-sex attraction,” says the counselor at the gay-conversion therapy center. “You’re facing the consequences of your actions, and it’s ugly.” Here’s the first trailer for The Miseducation of Cameron Post, starring Chloe Grace Moretz as the titular teen who was caught having sex with the prom queen and sent off this place.
The all-business facility for teens is run by the strict Dr. Lydia Marsh (Jennifer Ehle) and her brother, Reverend Rick (John Gallagher Jr.) — himself an example of how those in the program can be “cured.” In the face of outlandish discipline, dubious methods and earnest Christian rock songs, Cameron forms an unlikely gay community, including the amputee stoner Jane (Sasha Lane) and the Lakota Two-Spirit, Adam (Forrest Goodluck). In creating a family on her own terms, she learns what it means to empower herself and have confidence in her identity.

“The Miseducation of Cameron Post” is a humble, poignant, and extremely touching coming-of-age drama that unfolds like a seriocomic “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” set at a gay conversion camp for Christian teens circa 1993. Complete with Jennifer Ehle as an indomitable riff on Nurse Ratched, the movie shears Emily M. Danforth’s massive Ya novel of the same name down to a sensitive film that cuts right to the heart of the matter. Played by a beautifully understated and unsure Chloë Grace Moretz, Cameron Post is an orphaned high school junior who develops some very biblical — and blessedly mutual — feelings for a girl she meets at Sunday school (“Blame” director Quinn Shephard).

An onslaught of onscreen and offscreen talent unite with a clear sense of purpose in the limited series “When We Rise.” An examination of gay and women’s rights over three decades and how their causes conflict and coalesce, Dustin Lance Black’s new ABC offering emphasizes what’s possible when oppressed minorities come together and fight back against a malicious patriarchy.
There’s no shortage of modern parallels at play, and ABC is counting on the public’s revived passion for protest to drive interest in a show that honors those who paved the way with picket signs and (mostly) passive resistance. The eight-episode series written by Black (mostly) does right by its honorable cause, but it suffers from the strictures of its format. A sprawling story creates an awkward combination of history lessons and personal stories, and broadcast standards prove far too restrictive. The result is a conglomeration...
