Tyra Banks is returning to daytime. She’ll lead a show featuring a team of “lifestyle experts” who will aim to provide viewers with “cutting-edge guidance.”
A study attempted to quantify how well Doctor Who handles female characters using the Bechdel test, companion speaking time and number of (non-companion) female characters. It turns out Russell T. Davies‘ run was a lot more female-friendly than Steven Moffat‘s first few seasons. That’s not surprising, but its actually been quantified here.
This year, the Academy changed the rules on what it takes to qualify for the Best Documentary Oscar, prompting HBO to cut back on the number of movies it pushes. It’s choices will include Proposition 8 documentary The Case Against 8.
For the first time, The Amazing Race started its next season in a very public place, Times Square. That means there is no mystery about who will be competing in the 25th season.

Well first you must be asking yourself why Cincinnati but that’s why you have to read through to find out!
1. Nick is a Pie Man…
When asked if he preferred cake or pie, Nick told the user that he’s “more of a pie man. Pumpkin, sweet potato, apple, cherry being some of my favorites.”
2. Nick Wants To Be Reds Player Joey Votto for a Day…
“If you could switch places with someone else for 1 day who would it be and what would you do,” QueenPoser asked. Always an interesting question.

Morris County, the feature length anthology film directed by Matthew Garrett is not easy to categorize - and that is one of its strengths. It's a drama - but the stories venture into such dark, bitter, raw, and rattling territory, the film is custom built more for horror fans than fans of conventional dramas. At the same time, horror fans who gravitate toward a typical mainstream flavor of the genre may find Morris County a little too daring, somber, and unflinching for their tastes. What I admire most about the film is that it refuses to use the cookie cutter. Instead, writer/director Garrett let the film evolve into its own unique beast - and for that, at the very least, Morris County deserves your attention.
Given the nonconforming nature of this film, it's easy to see why finding appropriate distribution for Morris County (which has been complete for some...

Storytelling on Big Brother – that is, the process by which the show’s editors and producers sift through thousands of hours of footage and assemble something resembling a coherent, satisfying narrative for every episode – really fascinates me. Most comparable reality shows, including Survivor and The Amazing Race, are filmed months in advance of being broadcast, with the outcome of the competition already known by production staff long before concrete storyboarding for the season takes place. Producers and editors of Big Brother are afforded no such luxury. Because Big Brother episodes are edited and put together contemporaneously with the filming of the show,...

Patrick Duffy says he'd like to participate in a Step by Step reunion movie and that it would be interesting to see how the Lambert family grew up. I just hope such a series spawns a serious topical drama that desperately adds a laugh track when ratings tank, giving the Tgif generation a The Bradys of their own.
You've seen me complain that the dark side of a golden age of television is a too-full DVR that make it challenging to keep up with all the good shows (as well as the guilty pleasures and hate watching) available. It also means that shows like Southland and Switched at Birth don't quite get the attention they deserve. I'm still looking for time to get caught up on Game of Thrones, much less time to get to that third episode of Top of the Lake.

I'm not thrilled about giving up Hayes' weekend show, Up, but I do love the idea of combining Hayes with Rachel Maddow. Jane Lynch is on the stage, a bag of Oreos is on my coffee table, Jon Hamm is likely preparing his acceptance speech, and I'm excited to watch the 2011 Emmy Awards along with my fellow TV Fanatics.
Below, I'll be live-blogging whatever thoughts come into my head throughout the ceremony, while also highlighting the winners in every major category. Please join me in the Comments section, starting right... Now!
7:57 I have switched over to Fox for a little Red Carpet before the show starts and it is Jane Lynch in a tux. It has begun!
8:01 What I wouldn't do to live in that gigantic tv building!
8:03 Is Jane Lynch making fun of Big Bang Theory for having a laugh track?
8:05 Roger Sterling trying to watch tv through his 1965 phone? Hilarious.
8:09 Jane Lynch attempted to make a joke about Betty White's age, but the audience...

Let the countdown begin!
On Sept. 23, All My Children‘s final broadcast episode will air on ABC. Thankfully, SOAPnet has announced plans to honor the daytime institution with a two-day, 12-episode marathon of AMC‘s most memorable hours.
For starters, relish in the wonder that is Erica Kane on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7/6c, with a mini-marathon titled “I Love Lucci.” The five back-to-back episodes (one from 1979!) include Erica’s fairy tale wedding to Jack (one of their trips down the aisle, anyway), her daughter Bianca’s difficult coming out, and the realization that she might in fact be a pill addict.

In honor of The Comedy Awards, airing April 10 on Comedy Central, NextMovie is unveiling a series of features on Hollywood's funniest films and folks.
Between YouTube, Upright Citizens Brigade, and half the cast of "Freaks And Geeks" creating world-famous superstars, there is a literal glut of talent coming through the comedy pipelines, which as metaphorical as they are could probably use some kind of filtration system.
That's where we come in. We're here to give you the skinny on the 20 most uproariously irreverent, maniacally twisted, ingeniously brilliant (male) comedic movie stars out there (see our picks for top 20 funniest women here).
20. Michael Cera
Taking exasperated wimpitude to new heights, this wee 22-year-old Canadian took the big screen by storm in 2007 with the twin successes of "Juno" and "Superbad." The latter teen comedy showcased Cera's deadpan to maximum effect as the ultrasensitive Evan, who sets his phaser to "flustered" when the...

From Jack Tripper to Survivor: Gabon’s Mark Lehman, we count down TV’s most infamous peek-a-boo-boos.
Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!
Q: That old rumor about Jack Tripper’s scrotum being visible on an episode of Three’s Company got me thinking: what do you think is the most famous example of accidental nudity on TV? – Scott, Boise, Idaho
A: There are a number of ways to think about this – and since we’re talking male nudity, I’m determined to think about them all.
The most famous example of a TV peek-a-boo-boo? It’s still probably peace activist Robert Opel’s nude streak across the stage at the 1974 Oscars, prompting host David Niven to quip, “Isn't it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get...

Nat Strand and Kat Chang are two of the most adorably non-dramatic reality show contestants ever. The 17th season of Amazing Race had its fair share of squabbling couples (Nick and Vicki! Chad and Stephanie!) and passive-aggressive travel shenanigans, but the team of doctors made an inspirational portrait of courageous amiability under fire. Throw in the fact that Nat’s a diabetic with a fear of heights, and that vegetarian Kat had to devour a gloriously weird-looking sheep’s head in Norway, and you’re left with only one conclusion: These women deserved to win. Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of the Season Finale of The Amazing Race.Sorry for the delay in getting tonight’s post up, especially for those of you who are used to it being up at 9:30 Et. I’m still on the West Coast, so didn’t even get to watch the episode until it aired here. It’s Finale Night so let’s get right to it…
My Random Thoughts:
- The opening recap of the entire race was pretty much a 3-minute segment saying “Remember that Nick and Chad are both bad people.” The nifty little lingo that Phil used saying teams ‘sank, crashed, and clashed’ all showed video clips featuring Chad. And after seeing the watermelon smash one more time (seriously, I never get tired of it, do you?), we wrapped up Phil’s recap with the trademark eyebrow…now with a ‘ding!’ sound effect.

Last night’s finale of the seventeenth edition of The Amazing Race was not the most dramatic in series history.
Nat and Kat’s victory, while certainly awesome to see, was unfortunately predictable as their lead grew, impressively, throughout the episode.
What the season lacked in drama in the final leg it more than made up for it with an unusually likable cast. Only a handful of contestants were the kind you actively root against and even those were tamed by The Amazing Race standards. Instead we were treated to a cast without a dominant group, but one that was easy to root for.
Take the final three contestants from last night. Most people were likely rooting for either Nat and Kat or Brook and Claire. Does this mean that Jill and Thomas were not likable? Ok, perhaps they were not our favorites, but they were a very deserving team if they did win,...

"The Amazing Race's" 17th installment is coming to an end Sunday (Dec. 12). Which team will cross the finish line first?
Dating couple Nick and Vicki were eliminated in the last episode, leaving home shopping hosts Brook and Claire, dating couple Jill and Thomas and doctors Nat and Kat left standing. The last episode ended in Seoul, South Korea, but Elimination Station has shown the eliminated teams arriving in Los Angeles to welcome the final three teams at the finish line.
The final episode title, which are always taken from something a player says over the course of the episode, is "Hi. I'm sorry. I'm in a race." So who do you think is going to win "Amazing Race" 17 and the $1,000,000 prize? Vote now!

Quitting has its consequences. After opting against finishing the Detour on The Amazing Race last week, Nick DeCarlo and girlfriend Vicki Casciola, both 26, incurred a six-hour penalty, forcing them to miss the first flight to Seoul this week and a shot to make the final three. "I don't think we had any chance of making that flight," Vicki tells TVGuide.com. "We got to the airport a little too late. ... But we were still in good spirits in thinking that you never know what's going to happen." See what else the two have to say about their disastrous penultimate leg, if they did all the tasks this week and why Nick felt "a little Ok" quitting last week.

Nick DeCarlo & Vicki Casciola eliminated from "Amazing Race 17" in episode 11. Tonight's show kicked off with scenes from last week's show when Nick and Vicki showed up in last place, but still got to stay in the race due to a non-elimination week. Then the teams had to fly to Seoul,South Korea. Then make their way to a special bridge to get their next clue. Nick and Vicki were way behind the other teams. The other teams left hours before Nick and Vicki. Once the teams got their clue at the bridge, they had to raft down a river. Then take a Humvee to the U.S. Navel Airforce base too get their next clue. Once they arrived, they faced a "Road Block."...

As fans of The Amazing Race know all too well, Nick DeCarlo is not the most caring of boyfriends. In fact, as he proved to girlfriend and Race partner Vicki Casciola last night, he's the least caring of boyfriends. Vicki (crying): "He keeps yelling at me. I can't do anything about it. He's never had asthma so he doesn't know what it feels like." Nick: "Quit crying." That's why this season's Amazing Race is a hit with the medical community. Not because of Vicki's asthma. But because proctologists everywhere are tuning...
