Fox will hit The Floor again — twice — in the 2024-25 season.
The network has renewed its Rob Lowe-hosted game show for two more cycles, both of which are slated to air next season. Addtionally, Fox and Lowe — who’s also a producer of The Floor — have signed a first-look deal to develop unscripted projects.
The renewal comes just ahead of Fox’s upfront presentation to advertisers Monday, but it’s not a big surprise: The Floor was quietly one of the best-performing shows on the network this season. It averaged 3.47 million viewers over seven days of linear viewing, according to Nielsen ratings, and grew to 5.5 million viewers with streaming and other digital platforms included.
“Fans loved the first season of The Floor so much that we’ve ordered two more seasons of this breakthrough game show, with plans already underway to make our epic battle of the brains even bigger and bolder,...

The quiz series “The Floor” has been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 at Fox, with host Rob Lowe entering into an unscripted first-look deal with the network.
“Fans loved the first season of ‘The Floor’ so much that we’ve ordered two more seasons of this breakthrough game show with plans already underway to make our epic battle of the brains even bigger and bolder,” said Michael Thorn, president of the Fox Television Network. “It’s also been a massive win to have a huge star like Rob Lowe as our host, and both our viewers and competitors can’t wait to see him back in action.”
Under Lowe’s new deal, he will develop new unscripted series for Fox that would be produced by the network’s unscripted studio, Fox Alternative Entertainment. Lowe is also the star of Fox’s hit series “9-1-1: Lone Star,” which will air its fifth season in the fall.

Exclusive: Fox is tripling down on The Floor.
The network has handed the Rob Lowe-hosted game show a second and third season after its first season performed well for the network and was spoofed on Saturday Night Live.
The news comes ahead of Fox’s Upfront, which is being held in New York tomorrow.
The show, which Deadline revealed had landed at Fox last June, premiered on January 2. It ran for ten episodes through to the end of February.
The network said that the premiere episode amassed 4.4M multi-platform viewers after seven days of viewing, per Nielsen data, which is a 73% boost from the 2.5M that tuned in same-day, making it the network’s most-streamed game show ever and the network’s most-watched Tuesday unscripted debut in more than 13 years, since Masterchef premiered in 2010. It continued to perform well over its season.

Each episode will feature two families competing for $100,000 in a “battle of the balls,” combining a high-stakes quiz show with a large-scale physical competition.
“When I got hit up about hosting an epic face-off between big brains and even bigger balls, I was like … ’I got this,’” Pharoah said in a statement. “Then I found out it was a game show series on Fox and thought … even better!”

Fox has ordered Stars on Mars, a space-themed celebrity competition series fronted by the legendary William Shatner.
The unscripted show, from Fremantle-owned Eureka Productions, will see celebrities leave behind their pampered earth-bound lives for life in a space station that simulates the conditions on Mars. According to the producers, the stars will live, eat and sleep under these otherworldly conditions but also have to make alliances, strategize and indulge in some skulduggery in order to be the last “celebronaut” standing.
Star Trek icon Shatner, who made a real-life trip to space in October 2021 with Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, isn’t listed as host of Stars on Mars, but is on board to lead Mission Control. Shatner will offer support to the celebrities and no doubt words of wisdom as they attempt to complete missions and avoid the weekly elimination votes.
“Good news for our celebronauts from Mission Control,” Shatner said in a statement.

The 2022-23 TV season has its first casualty.
CBS’ dating show The Real Love Boat has been pulled from the broadcast network after four episodes. It will finish out its season on Paramount+.
The move comes after the show, an unscripted spin on the 1970s-’80s romance/comedy anthology, pulled in soft ratings numbers for its first four episodes. The Real Love Boat is CBS’ least watched primetime series of the fall, averaging a little under 1.9 million same-day viewers and a slim 0.24 rating in the key ad demographic of adults 18-49. Delayed viewing hasn’t helped much: After a week of DVR and on-demand viewing (as measured by Nielsen), the first two episodes rose to just 2.59 million viewers and a 0.3 among adults 18-49.
Paramount+ also streams the four episodes that aired on CBS, as well as the original scripted series.

Mention “The Mole” to virtually anyone who works in reality TV, and their eyes light up. For a show that hasn’t been seen on U.S. television since 2008 — and only aired five editions in total — “The Mole” has nonetheless achieved a near-mythical status in the annals of unscripted TV history.
““I grew up watching them all on television, and it was one of my all-time favorite reality shows,” says Eureka Prods. CEO Chris Culvenor. “It’s probably one of the most beloved formats that is out there, not just in this country, but worldwide. It combines a sense of adventure, with a sort of ‘Ocean’s 11’/’Mission Impossible’-style caper. People love a mystery. I think that is what was the appeal of the original.”
“The Mole” centers on 12 contestants who must solve challenges in order to add money to a pot — which one of them will win in the end.

Paolo Arrigo was giving the producers behind CBS’ “The Real Love Boat” a tour of the Princess Cruises ship he oversees when the creative team fell in love with the captain. They then asked Princess if they could borrow Arrigo for a few weeks — and that’s how, in addition to being a real-life ship captain, he now plays one on TV.
“We were scouting the ship and met Captain Paolo, who was the designated captain of the ship at that time,” executive producer Jay Bienstock tells Variety. “When we met him, we thought, ‘Wow, you are so charming and so interesting. We’d love to have you be on the show, as opposed to being the captain while we’re filming.’ And then Princess graciously gave him to us.”

Fox is breeding another reality series reboot.
The network is bringing back dating format Farmer Wants a Wife.
The series is based on a British format developed by American Idol producer Fremantle and a U.S. adaptation previously aired on The CW in 2008.
Fox Day @ TCA: Deadline’s Complete Coverage
The show is centered around a group of farmers that are presented with women from the city and they must choose one to be their spouse.
Fox’s new take is produced by Fremantle-backed Eureka, which is on an unscripted tear with series such as ABC’s Holy Moley and CBS’ upcoming The Real Love Boat. The production company, which was set up by Chris Culvenor and Paul Franklin, produces an Australian version of the show for Seven Network that has been successful since its own reboot.
The format has been rebooted in a number of international territories with a slightly younger and sexier vibe.

Fox is getting into business with Desperate Housewives and Why Women Kill creator Marc Cherry. The network is also bringing the Farmer Wants a Wife reality format back to the United States.
The two announcements capped Fox’s day at the Television Critics Association on Wednesday. The Cherry project, titled Jenny Is a Weapon, has a script commitment with an eye toward a straight to series pickup. Farmer Wants a Wife, meanwhile, scored a series order and will begin production in the fall and will follow several farmers who “live hundreds of miles away from the nearest Tinder date,” as Rob Wade, president alternative entertainment and specials at Fox Entertainment, put it.
“I’m really excited about that show,” Wade told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think it’s going to speak to a lot of people. I think it touches on this nostalgia for the past,...

Fox has given a series order to “Farmer Wants a Wife,” a dating series based on an unscripted format developed by Fremantle. The series will follow farmers across the nation looking for love with someone who will embrace their remote country lifestyle. They will be matched with single women who’ve given up on dating in big cities and are looking for a true connection with a farmer.
The news came ahead of the network’s presentation at the Television Critics Association’s virtual summer 2022 press tour.
