We’ve had a lot of Sherlock Holmes adaptations over the years, and it seems we’re entering a new era of them. But this time, the twist is that they’ll have a young adult bent. Millie Bobby Brown is starring in Warner Bros.’ Enola Holmes movie, for instance, as Sherlock’s younger sister, and we’ve also now caught wind that Netflix is developing another teen-oriented Holmesian reboot titled Sherlock Junior.
According to our sources – the same ones who told us Disney is doing an Aladdin sequel and Lethal Weapon 5 is in the works with Danny Glover and Mel Gibson, both of which have since been confirmed – the streaming giant is working on a fresh, contemporary reworking of Holmes and Watson. The synopsis we’ve been given, meanwhile, teases the film focusing on a modern day young John Watson as teams up with British expatriate and his new neighbor,...

Martin Freeman is open to the possibility of Sherlock season 5 if everything lines up.
A fifth series of Sherlock is no closer to fruition than it was back in 2014, when co-creator Steven Moffat said that he and longtime writing pal Mark Gatiss had planned out the bones of it in the first stages of series 4. Now that series 4 is more than two years in the rear-view, is it time to give up on the possibility of stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman coming back to reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson? Not necessarily.
"They’re few and far between, the discussions about Sherlock, just because Mark [Gatiss] and Steven [Moffat], the writers, and Benedict [Cumberbatch] and I, are all lucky enough to be not only working on stuff that we like and are interested in, but we know what Sherlock is," Freeman explained in a new interview with Collider.

It’s been almost a decade since we’ve seen Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law’s John Watson share the big screen in 2011’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, but Warner Bros. is still interested in bringing them back to complete the trilogy. They’ve set a new release date for Sherlock Holmes 3 in […]

Exclusive: Martin Freeman, last seen in the Disney/Marvel blockbuster Black Panther, will star opposite Diane Kruger in the espionage-thriller, The Operative, from director Yuval Adler. Endeavor Content is handling U.S. sales while Bloom will continue to sell the foreign rights in Cannes.
The film follows Rachel (Kruger), a rogue spy from Israel’s feared national intelligence force Mossad, who vanishes without a trace while attending her father’s funeral in London. The only clue to her whereabouts is a cryptic phone call she places to her former handler Thomas (Freeman), who is then summoned from Germany to Israel by Mossad. With Rachel’s life immersed in her assignments as part of a vast espionage effort against Iran’s nuclear program, Thomas must retrace her steps to determine what threats she may now pose to their operation, while also working to protect her.

Two months ago, Black Panther‘s Martin Freeman drew the ire of the Sherlock community after stating that the hit BBC detective series was no longer fun due to at-times overwhelmingly pressure from the show’s rabid fans.
He also believes the cult series is fast approaching the end of its tether, leading many to conclude that, at this point, a fifth season is little more than pie in the sky.
When it comes to his criticism of Sherlock‘s impassioned fanbase, though, Martin Freeman also caught flak from co-star Benedict Cumberbatch (Avengers: Infinity War), with whom he’s shared experiences in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Peter Jackson’s Hobbit Trilogy. And, well, let’s just say that their friendship appears to be on the rocks.
Fast forward to now, and the John Watson actor has now elaborated on his criticism thanks to an exhaustive interview with The Daily Beast.

Sherlock fans will know him as Dr. John Watson, but to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Martin Freeman will always be Everett Ross, the elusive CIA agent who’s already got two appearances under his belt thanks to the back-to-back releases of Captain America: Civil War and Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther.
The latter has already earned its place among the box office greats – in fact, Black Panther‘s $1.3 billion tally was enough to bring it within arm’s reach of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. So it should come as no surprise that Marvel Studios is already mulling over plans for a bona fide sequel, even if they’re willing to pump the brakes on T’Challa’s next solo movie until such time as Ryan Coogler is ready to pick up the megaphone once more.

Over the course of seven years, we've had the pleasure of following Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman) for thirteen episodes of crime-solving shenanigans, and for the most part, they've been extremely well-crafted reimaginings of Arthur Conan Doyle's creation. The series has also built up a sizeable and passionate following, which puts all the... Read More...

After playing Dr. John Watson in four seasons of BBC’s “Sherlock”, Martin Freeman says it’s simply “not fun anymore,” thanks to fans. The show’s rabid following made stars out of his co-star Benedict Cumberbatch and the series, but Freeman says pressure from the fanbase has also made ‘Sherlock’ suffer. “Being in that show, it is a mini-Beatles thing.

BBC’s “Sherlock” has been off the air for over a year after airing its three-episode Series 4 in January 2017, but the wait for new episodes could be even longer than anticipated. Martin Freeman, who plays John Watson opposite Benedict Cumberbatch’s titular detective, said in a new interview with The Telegraph that “Sherlock” is over for the time being, partly because of the poor response to Series 4 and partly due to fan expectations.
“I think after series four [it] felt like a pause,” Freeman said, “I think we felt we’d done it for a bit now. And part of it, speaking for myself is [due to] the reception of it.”
The Telegraph asked Freeman if there were any talks taking place about a fifth season of the show, to which the actor said “not massively.” Series 4 received the show’s worst reviews from fans and critics, and yet most “Sherlock” episodes were...

Though it was once set to slink in front of the cameras back in 2016, Sherlock Holmes 3 got pushed off to the side as Robert Downey Jr.’s Marvel Cinematic Universe commitments began to grow. Last we heard, Warner Bros. had assembled a writer’s room to put together the script, but that was well over a year ago and since then, there’s been little to no movement on the project.
Still, it seems that the studio is keen on reuniting Rdj with his literal partner-in-crime, Jude Law – who plays John Watson – and director Guy Ritchie. It’s that core trifecta that fired Sherlock Holmes to international success some years ago, even factoring in the somewhat disappointing sequel, A Game of Shadows. Ritchie’s decidedly British aesthetic married with Downey Jr.’s charismatic turn as the world-famous sleuth was a hit with moviegoers and now, fans are crying out for more.
