A trailer made by fans for a Batgirl movie with Jenna Ortega has got more than 1.03 million views in less than five days. It’s made by Kh Studio and uses different effects, sounds, AI, and movie stuff. But it’s just for fun and doesn’t mean Ortega is really doing anything with DC. Still, people might keep talking about Ortega joining DC because of how many people watched the trailer.
We’re not sure if there are any plans for Batgirl in Gunn’s Dcu, even though the trailer shows Dceu characters.

Shortly after, the studio officially announced the end of the DC Extended Universe (Dceu) and introduced a new cinematic universe called Dcu, serving as a soft reboot. A fan-made trailer for a Batgirl movie starring Jenna Ortega has gained over 1.03 million views in less than five days. Created by Kh Studio, the trailer uses various effects, sound design, AI technologies, and movie analytics. However, it’s purely for entertainment and doesn’t indicate any real projects involving Ortega and DC. Despite this, rumors about Ortega’s potential casting may continue due to the trailer’s popularity.
Even though the trailer features Dceu characters, it’s unknown whether something related to Batgirl is planned in Gunn’s Dcu.
When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as CEOs of DC Studios last year, we knew nothing would be the same. Indeed, it didn’t take long for the studio to officially announce the end of the DC Extended Universe and the start of another cinematic universe, Dcu, that will replace it as a soft reboot. Michael Keaton is regarded as one of the finest actors in the entertainment industry who gained worldwide recognition when he starred as Bruce Wayne a.k.a., Batman in 1989’s Batman and later 1992’s Batman Returns. Directed by Tim Burton, the DC superhero movie was only given a green signal after Burton’s 1988 Beetlejuice was a success.
Keaton’s casting was considered a controversy at the time since the actor had been pigeonholed as a comic actor and fans along with critics weren’t sure if he could portray a serious character like Batman. The actor’s performance was highly lauded by the audience and the critics after the movie was released. The actor recently reprised the character for 2023’s The Flash and was later asked about the future of his Batman in Dcu.

It’s no secret that Hollywood studios often employ big names and flashy announcements in order to create hype and distract from negative press. Warner Bros. might be hoping for that. By dangling the tantalizing prospect of a Tom Cruise-Quentin Tarantino collaboration in front of fans, they will mitigate the blow of scrapped projects like Coyote vs. Acme & Batgirl.
According to Variety, Warner Bros. is making big investments in projects by Tom Cruise and Quentin Tarantino, in addition to Joker 2. But are they luring these powerful figures in Hollywood with their own sinister motives?
In recent years, many assumed WB would become a studio non-grata, especially after Discovery purchased the studio and put CEO David Zaslav at the top of the apex, canceling completed films like Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme. Why? Because the tax incentives were too good to resist.

It looks like the Coyote vs. Acme movie starring John Cena won’t see the light of day after all. According to a report in TheWrap, the hybrid live-action/animated film hasn’t found a new distributor after Warner Bros. turned down offers from multiple would-be buyers.
This past November, Warner Bros. confirmed it was permanently shelving Coyote vs. Acme for a tax write-off. Following public outcry, the studio reversed course just days later, allowing the filmmakers to shop the project to other distributors.
However, TheWrap reports that Warner Bros. was looking for a hefty asking price, effectively torpedoing any chance of a sale. Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount reportedly submitted “handsome offers” to acquire the movie.
In a “take it or leave it” scenario, Warner Bros. held steadfast in seeking $75 – $80 million — double the amount of $35 – $40 million it would make on the tax write-off — and didn’t take any counteroffers.

Remember Batgirl? It’s impossible to forget since it was a highly public film that was canceled before it even got the chance to see daylight. There were pictures of the film here and there, but Warner Brothers opted to write off the movie as a tax credit. Batgirl had a top notch cast – Leslie Grace, Brendan Fraser, J.K Simmons, and Michael Keaton. Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were the ones behind the project. There’s no telling how bad the film truly was since no one but the cast and crew saw Batgirl. However,...

A backyard swimming pool tells part of the story in Colombian American writer-director Alessandra Lacorazza Samudio’s “In the Summers.” As it goes from refreshing site of joyful congregation to an ignored eyesore in mounting disrepair, the recreational amenity establishes itself as a potently grave motif for the passage of time in this unsentimental, and yet immensely affecting debut feature about a complicated parent-children relationship. Told in four elliptical segments, it spans roughly two decades.
Grammy-winning, Puerto Rican urban music hitmaker René Pérez Joglar (better known by his stage name Residente), part of the now defunct duo Calle 13, stars as Vicente. The nonchalant dad lives alone in Las Cruces, New Mexico, a sleepy desert town with a predominantly Latino population. In the relationship between parents and children, memories can be ravaged battlefields. The validity of certain experiences is tested and accusations of wrongdoing are negotiated. It’s within this charged arena that Alessandra Lacorazza sets her quiet debut film, In the Summers. The feature is a visual poem, an enveloping four-stanza ode to experiences shared by a man and his daughters.
It starts in the summer when Violeta (Dreya Renae Castillo) and Eva (Luciana Quinonez) visit their father, Vincente (René Pérez Joglar) in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Their first encounter, in the parking lot of the tiny town airport, is thick with the stilted awkwardness of distance. Lacorazza, who also wrote the screenplay, avoids specifying why Vincente hasn’t seen his kids, but some information can be gleaned from their bilingual conversations. We know it’s been a minute — so long that Vincente can’t remember what year of school his kids have just finished,...

Malia Obama stepped onto a red carpet last week for the first time, with good reason. The former first daughter hit Park City for the Sundance Film Festival premiere of her short film The Heart, an 18-minute directorial debut that snagged a spot in the U.S. short fiction films program of the 2024 edition. The premiere screening happened on the fest’s opening day, Jan. 18, and screened two more times over the weekend. The budding filmmaker, who participated in all post-screening Q&As to discuss her work, also took time out of her busy schedule to screen the film and speak with a group of students at Park City High School about all things creative from writing to directing.
Malia Obama attended The Heart premiere and posed with her actors and short-film collaborators.
It wasn’t all work and no play for the 25-year-old daughter of Barack and Michelle Obama.

It’s almost time again for me to pack my bags and head to Park City, Utah, for the 2024 edition of the Sundance Film Festival. The last few years have been challenging for the fest, with the 2021 and 2022 editions only being online due to the pandemic. The 2023 edition was a hybrid version that sported a few high-profile debuts, including A24’s horror hit Talk to Me, but overall was a bit of a modest year in terms of stuff that broke out. However, 2024 seems to be a high-end year for the fest, with tons of big stars on the way to the festival, including Pedro Pascal, Kristen Stewart (there with two movies), Sebastian Stan, Woody Harrelson and many more.

Warner Bros Discovery boss David Zaslav isn’t backing down over the decision to basically ‘delete’ the Batgirl film in 2022.

Leslie Grace was in the lead role, with Brendan Fraser, Michael Keaton and J K Simmons in supporting roles.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav “stars” in a deepfake video released on Friday to promote the studios’ “new process we call shelving.”
Zaslav has been dragged across the industry for his now-reversed Nov. 9 decision to shelve the already completed “Coyote Vs. Warner Bros. has reportedly reversed course on the Coyote vs. Acme movie starring John Cena. According to Puck News, the studio will now allow the filmmakers to shop the project to other distributors after shelving it for a tax write-off just last week.
Puck News’ Matthew Belloni reports that the abrupt decision was made by Warner film executives Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy alongside new head of animation Bill Damaschke after online backlash from Coyote vs. Acme director Dave Green and composer Steven Price, as well as the animation community overall.
Amazon is one of the contenders to pick up Coyote vs. Acme, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Screenings will take place for potential buyers this month.
“For three years, I was lucky enough to make a movie about Wile E. Coyote, the most persistent, passionate, and resilient character of all time,” Green wrote on Twitter about the James Gunn-produced film.

Filming for the Coyote vs. Acme movie starring John Cena completed in 2022, but audiences won’t ever get to see the finished product. On Thursday, Warner Bros. confirmed that the film has been permanently shelved in favor of a tax write-off.
A Looney Tunes hybrid film produced by James Gunn, Coyote vs. Acme was first announced in December 2020 and reportedly cost around $72 million to make, with principal photography wrapping last year in New Mexico. It was originally slated for release on Max on July 21st, 2023, and later considered for theatrical release, but was eventually removed from the Warner Bros. release calendar in April 2022 (with the July 21st release date ultimately going to Barbie instead). Now, the confirmation that it’s been shelved is arriving after a change-up at Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and the ascent of its new leader, Bill Damaschke, who is seeking to prioritize theatrical releases over streaming titles.

Batgirl is continuing to be a pain for Warner Bros.
Not only was the Leslie Grace-led, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah-directed movie cancelled, but now, an extra who was involved in an on-set motorcycle accident is now suing the studio for injuries sustained during the incident, via Screen Rant.

In a report for The Sun, Cristina Stanovici shared the gruesome details of her injuries during the shoot, including allegedly being left for nearly an hour without proper medical help, and the healing process that took three days in the ICU and 17 months, from which she still feels pain.
“To hear the anesthesiologist say ‘we had our fingers crossed for you’ really sends a chill down your spine. The surgeon told me it was one of the worst cases he has seen in his eight years at the hospital,” the extra said.

Movies are one of the most common forms of entertainment nowadays. However, the audience is rarely aware of how difficult the process of making a movie is, and it can potentially even endanger the people present on the movie set. Although the action sequences and stunts are usually done by trained professionals, and the studios assure us of good security measures on movie sets, the accidents are still happening, unfortunately.
In the history of Hollywood, many movies remained infamously known for tragedies and unfortunate situations that happened on the movie set. We still remember when Brandon Lee was fatally wounded while filming ‘Crow’ back in 1993. Joi Harris, a stuntwoman, tragically died while performing a motorcycle stunt while filming ‘Deadpool 2,’ and let’s not forget the most recent tragic event when Halyna Hutchins, a cinematographer, was shot dead by a prop gun on the set of ‘Rust.’

Film extra Cristina Stanovici has detailed the severe injuries she suffered when she was hit by a speeding motorbike on the Glasgow set of the Batgirl movie.
Stanovici told The Sun newspaper that she felt it would have been “easier if she had died” rather than go through multiple surgeries. Her injuries included a broken thigh, shin, hip, pelvis and thumb and a head gash.
The accident happened during late night scenes being filmed in the city centre. The extra, who is 5ft 1in tall, was posing as a bystander when the camera-carrying machine drove into her.
Stanovici told the newspaper: “They had a motorcycle with cameras on top of it that was filming.
“It hit me from the right side and I went flying in the air.
“I started screaming to get the attention of the paramedics as I remembered seeing an ambulance on site in the previous days.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were the directors behind Batgirl, the DC film at Warner Bros. with Leslie Grace in the titled role. The superhero movie would end up being axed by the studio and with the release of The Flash earlier this year, the filmmakers are reflecting on their film.
“We watched it and we were sad,” Adil said of The Flash in an interview with Insider. “We love director Andy Muschietti and his sister Barbara, who produced the movie. But when we watched it, we felt we could have been part of the whole thing.”
Adil continued, “We didn’t get the chance to show ‘Batgirl’ to the world and let the audience judge for themselves. Because the audience really is our ultimate boss and should be the deciders of if something is good or bad, or if something should be seen or not.”

That change in leadership led to the cancelation of the ‘Man of Steel’ sequel, ‘Wonder Woman 3,’ and Dwayne Johnson’s plans for his Black Adam. However, not only unproduced movies were the victims of this leadership change at DC Studios.
The former leadership of then-DC Films wanted to expand Dceu content on streaming as well, which led to the announcement of ‘Batgirl’ and ‘Blue Beetle.’ However, ‘Blue Beetle’ was later changed to have a theatrical release, and ‘Batgirl’ was ultimately canceled even though the project was already in post-production. Two years ago, Xolo Maridueña made a surprise appearance on the red carpet of Warner Bros.’ DC feature The Suicide Squad. It was a coming-out party of sorts, as the night before, at a surprise dinner thrown by DC executives, the Cobra Kai actor learned he had nabbed his biggest role yet: starring as the title character in the action-adventure feature Blue Beetle. “It feels like a fairy tale,” an ecstatic Maridueña told The Hollywood Reporter at the time.
Now, as Blue Beetle arrives in theaters Aug. 18, the actor won’t be walking a red carpet premiere for the film, the first studio movie to center on a Latino superhero. Not because Maridueña doesn’t want to but because there is no premiere, red carpet or blue, for the movie.

The scrapping of Batgirl from the DC schedule last year was a major blow to comic book movie fans. Despite the studio’s track record, there was plenty of interest around that project: Leslie Grace in the title role, Brendan Fraser as the key villain and Michael Keaton as Batman. Instead, 2022 and 2023 had Black Adam, a Shazam! sequel and The Flash, which at least did give us Keaton. But we all wanted to see how DC would handle Batgirl – and now curiosity has piqued yet again, as the logo remains on a promotional standee for Blue Beetle. Ok, now they’re just rubbing it in!

Translators, a documentary short by two-time Emmy-winning director Rudy Valdez, showcases the lives of three Latino children – Harye, 13; Densel, 11; and Virginia, 16 – as they translate everyday transactions for their parents who don’t speak English. Following a screening at Hollywood’s Ricardo Montalban Theatre (the film also premiered at Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival), Valdez explains that his approach to the movie was inspired by the many customers who shopped at his family’s convenience store in Michigan.
“I wasn’t a translator myself, but my parents had a small Mexican grocery store where I grew up and people knew they could speak English, Spanish, Spanglish, anything,” he recalls. “Many times I witnessed, when I was 7 or 8 years old, people came in, went to my parents and said, ‘Look, I need to go to my child’s school, or the hospital, or the courthouse and I...

Although The Flash is meeting the low-bar projections for box office performance, it’s also currently falling well below that of Black Adam and Eternals, which had been considered flops even with grosses of around $350 million. Warner Bros. would infamously try a unique marketing strategy, and the focus of the advertisements was turned predominantly toward Michael Keaton’s reprisal as Batman. In fact, Michael Keaton’s return is, for the most part, remaining the most positive attribute of the film.
While not officially returning in full, Keaton had additionally filmed scenes for the now locked-away Batgirl movie. He was also slated to appear in a sequel to The Flash should the film see success. Leslie Grace is opening up about the bizarre situation that scuttled her debut in the DC movie franchise as Batgirl.
Last year, amid the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger, David Zazlav, head of the newly merged entertainment conglomerate decided to shelve “Batgirl”, the $90-million feature in which Grace made her debut as the titular caped crusader, with corporate bean-counters determining it made more fiscal sense for the company to take a tax loss on the movie than actually release it.
During a recent interview with Yahoo! Life, Grace was asked if she’d consider playing Batgirl again if the opportunity were to arise.
