With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit the interwebs. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead (Douglas Tirola)
While the last few decades or so of National Lampoon’s output has been less than stellar, their influence through their humor magazine and films such as the original Vacation and Animal House can still be felt today. For those curious about the formation of the group and their rise to ubiquitous status, a new documentary looks to provide the behind-the-scenes story.

Having appeared in hundreds of movies and TV shows over the decades, Stephen Tobolowsky has one of the most recognizable faces in entertainment. And even if you don't know his name, you've likely laughed because of his characters, cringed at their creepiness or at least pointed to the screen and said, "Hey, it's that guy from that movie."
But while Stephen Tobolowky might be a bit player in other people's stories, he's the marquee name in his own and has been sharing poignant moments of his life to thousands of listeners on The Tobolowky Files, a podcast co-hosted by The Primary Instinct's director David Chen.

"That thing that makes a story a story..." FilmBuff has debuted the first teaser trailer for David Chen's documentary The Primary Instinct, about actor/entertainer Stephen Tobolowsky. The documentary follows Tobolowsky across the country while he speaks at events and performs "The Tobolowsky Files", the podcast hosted by Chen and Tobolowsky. It's essentially a concert film made up mostly of footage from his events with an extra edge looking at storytelling, asking the question of "why do we tell stories in the first place?" This actually looks really good! I'm already fascinated by what Tobolowsky talks about in this tease. Here's the first official trailer for David Chen's doc The Primary Instinct, originally from Vanity Fair: Actor Stephen Tobolowsky has acted in over 200 TV shows and films over the past 40 years, possessing one of the most dazzlingly diverse filmographies on the planet. But even more compelling than the...

This time of year most everyone in the film world is talking about Oscar contenders, movies like Boyhood, Birdman, and Selma, which get more press each week as awards season marches on. However, I'm here today to provide a recommendation for a film you likely haven't heard of, which you can check out right now on VOD. The film is called Layover, and it is an impressive high-concept drama that took me completely by surprise. The first outing from writer-director Joshua Caldwell, Layover is very much in the vein of Richard Linklater's Before trilogy. Driven not by traditional plot mechanics but by the characters we see on screen and the way they interact with the world around them, Caldwell's primarily French-language film centers on a Parisian woman named Simone (Nathalie Fay) as she navigates the city of Los Angeles for a night after her connecting flight to Singapore is cancelled.
