Jeopardy! Masters finalist James Holzhauer is “bummed” after losing his title. Reigning champ Hozhauer competed against Yogesh Raut and Victoria Groce in the tournament’s Season 2 finale on Wednesday May 22. But ultimately he was no match for Groce who triumphed on the night and took home the $500,000 cash prize. Click here for a recap of what happened in the finale. After the finale aired on ABC, Holzhauer took to Twitter to congratulate his opponents. “Huge congrats to Yogesh and especially Victoria for a brilliantly played final match,” the 39-year-old wrote. “The trivia community and fans of The Chase already knew Victoria is the best quizzer in the country—now fans of Jeopardy Masters know it too. ” Holzhauer finished third, behind Raut who placed second, and was awarded $150,000. Raut took home a cash prize of $250,000. Holzhauer also went on to express his disappointment in not having won the prize. He intended...

[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers about the Season 2 finale of Jeopardy! Masters.] The second season of Jeopardy! Masters has ended with a new champion of champions taking the top prize. On Wednesday night’s finale, Victoria Groce, Yogesh Raut, and James Holzhauer competed in two back-to-back, total score games to find out who was the true master of this trio, and one contestant closed with a decisive lead that left no doubt. As was evident from the very beginning of this season, it is indeed Victoria Groce who has emerged as the best of the best this time, handily dispensing with self-proclaimed “final boss” James Holzhauer and Yogesh Raut for the $500,000 cash prize. Here’s how it all went down. Game One The first round was a spirited affair, featuring a category with special guest Jason Kelce and some friendly sidechats about the proper pronunciation of proper nouns like Everest and Salt ‘N Pepa. Otherwise, it was pretty ...

And then there were three. Monday’s edition of Jeopardy! Masters was the second (and final) round of the semifinals, whittling the remaining quartet of Masters down to the three who’ll compete for the big money on Wednesday’s Season 2 finale episode. Here’s a look at how it all shook out. Game Three This round saw Victoria Groce play her last game, going up against James Holzhauer and Amy Schneider. And, in what seems to be just her luck, she found the first round’s Daily Double right away, betting the $1,000 she could without any money in the bank yet. In the category “Short Kingdoms,” the clue was: “In 1814, this historic German state was made into a kingdom for a little while, largely through the influence of England.” While Groce guessed it was Prussia, host Ken Jennings kindly informed her it was actually Hanover, which meant in a surprising turn,...

The semifinals have just begun on Jeopardy! Masters and it’s already a nail-biter. On Friday night’s episode, the match point slates were wiped clean for the four semifinalists — Victoria Groce, Yogesh Raut, James Holzhauer, and Amy Schneider — which meant they all had an equal chance coming into this leg of the competition to advance to the finals. However, one contestant got off to a very rocky start indeed, and it remains to be seen whether they’ll be able to bounce back from such a severe stumble. Here’s a look at everything that happened on the first night of Jeopardy! Masters semifinals. Game One This game saw James Holzhauer, Yogesh Raut, and Victoria Groce in competition. Things got off to a bright start for Groce, who previously led the pack in the initial rounds. First, she got the first Daily Double (wagering and winning $3,600 on Stanford Benet...

Coming into the sixth night of Jeopardy! Masters Season 2, there were a couple of foregone conclusions: Victoria Groce (with 13 match points) and Yogesh Raut (with 10) were already qualified to play in the semifinals; unless James Holzhauer (who had 6) got shut out again, he was likely to advance as well; it was bound to be a close contest between Amy Schneider and Mattea Roach (also 5) for that fourth spot; and Matt Amodio (with just 1 single match point) had zero chance of playing past Wednesday night’s games. So how did the sextet of champions fare in the final night of Masters games? Here’s a look at the highlights. Game Eleven Raut, Holzhauer, and Amodio were matched up for their final “regular” game of this season, but, as mentioned above, the latter was necessarily going to come in sixth (still taking home a healthy $50k prize for his troubles), and Holzhauer...

James Holzhauer came into the second season of Jeopardy! Masters as the “Final Boss of Jeopardy,” but by the third episode, the nickname had disappeared. Now, shocked fans are wondering if this is because of his less-than-stellar performance in the tournament so far. A viewer brought up the topic on the Jeopardy! For comparison, in Season 1, the intros were still included all the way up until the semi-finals. “I can’t help but wonder if this has to do with with James being the self-described “Final Boss” but (so far) turning in a less-than-dominant performance,” the Reddit user wrote. “That line doesn’t seem so funny under these circumstances and could even be interpreted as a little embarrassing.” Holzhauer has used nicknames for his “occupation” intro before, including last year, when he went by the...

Jeopardy! icon James Holzhauer is currently defending his Jeopardy! Masters title, but he took some time out earlier this week to weigh in on the Kendrick Lamar versus Drake beef. After an X user said, “Beefs don’t work in any other genre. Can you imagine 21 pilots and imagine dragons writing diss tracks about each other,” Holzhauer responded with a classic Jeopardy! clip that proved beefs can certainly happen on game shows. The clip was from the 2020 Greatest of All-Time tournament, which saw Holzhauer battling it out with fellow Jeopardy! legends Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. The moment featured Holzhauer’s epic diss of Rutter, where he pointed out how Rutter’s score of “0” was still on the screen after the boards reset, and Ken Jennings raised his hands in shock at what Holzhauer had said, reacting with a “Wow!” It was a moment viewers will never forget. “Funniest line ever delivered on Jeopardy!

At the start of Jeopardy! Masters Season 2, Season 1 champ James Holzhauer declared that he was the “final boss” of the entire competition, but so far, it’s been the Victoria Groce show, through and through. In the third night of competition — for Games 5 and 6 on Wednesday, May 8 — Groce once again took the lead and held it. And although it wasn’t a runaway this time (for the first time in Masters‘ second season so far), she still had a commanding performance. So is Victoria Groce the new “final boss” of this season? Well, there’s still a lot of gameplay to go, but she’s off to a good start. Coming into the night, the tallies of match powers were: Victoria Groce in 1st place with 6, James Holzhauer in 2nd place with 4, Yogesh Raut in third place with 4 (because of the tiebreaker being the number of correct responses), Matt Amodio...

Those competing include reigning Masters champ James Holzhauer, last year’s runners-up Matt Amodio & Mattea Roach, 2024 Tournament of Champions winner Yogesh Raut, and Jeopardy! Some fans felt the spot should have gone to someone else who hasn’t had as many opportunities as Schneider. “We just saw her in Jit, whats the point if she can lose that and just move on anyways,” said one commenter on the Jeopardy! Reddit forum when the line-up was first announced.

And we’re off to the races. Jeopardy! Masters‘ second season premiered Wednesday night, and the studio was brimming with excitement… and a whole lotta personality. James Holzhauer, for example, declared himself the “main event” of the tournament without any hint of jest (even when he was trailing well behind his competitors in the game). And Victoria Groce clarified that she’s still the “queen” of The Chase — no past tense references allowed, even by Ken Jennings. Conversely, Amy Schneider was a bit more reserved as she grappled with being the one person in the competition who hadn’t technically earned their way into it. Let’s revisit all the major highlights from Games 1 and 2 of Jeopardy! Masters Season 2 from the top: Game One This set saw Victoria Groce, Matt Amodio, and Mattea Roach in competition with one another… and by competition, we mean ...

2022 Tournament of Champions winner Amy Schneider is the sixth and final member of the Jeopardy! Masters line-up after landing the coveted Producers’ Pick spot. However, some fans are not happy about it. The announcement was made on Friday, April 12, at the Inside Jeopardy Live! Event at Hudson Yards in New York City. Schneider, who competed in last year’s Masters, will join returning champ James Holzhauer, Season 1 finalists Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach, 2024 Toc winner Yogesh Raut, and Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament winner Victoria Groce. The tournament will be prime-time on ABC, starting May 1. Schneider’s inclusion has been met with backlash. While the 40-game winner is a fan favorite, she had just competed in the Jit!, where she finished as runner-up. Many fans felt this should have disqualified her from Masters. “Honestly not a fan of this decision,” wrote one fan on the Jeopardy! Reddit forum. “We just saw her in Jit,...

Jeopardy! is in the midst of a tense and chaotic Tournament of Champions, but one of the game show’s most iconic players is seemingly bored with all the recent tournaments. Super-champ Jamez Holzhauer, who returned to the Alex Trebek Stage last year to win Jeopardy! Masters, took to social media on Thursday, March 7, to poke fun at the show’s recent tournament obsession. Responding to a tweet that asked, “What’s a harsh truth that people don’t agree on?” Holzhauer quipped, “Jeopardy should have a First Chance Week sometime.” The self-described game show supervillain was referencing the lack of new Jeopardy! contestants. Since September, the trivia show has been in full-on tournament mode, with two editions of Second Chance, two instalments of Champions Wildcard, and now the Tournament of Champions. The inaugural Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament will follow the Toc. Jeopardy should have a First Chance Week sometime https://t.

The Jeopardy Invitational Tournament is approaching this month, and it is set to showcase some of the best Jeopardy! players of all time, including, fans hope, former champ Brad Rutter. Jeopardy! fans might have been disappointed that Rutter wasn’t a part of last year’s Masters tournament, but it’s speculated the highest-earning contestant may return for Jit, which begins March 29. Rutter, who won the 2001 Tournament of Champions, told Vulture last year that he’s “always down” to compete on the show again. Rutter last appeared on the show in 2020’s The Greatest of All Time tournament, where he finished in third place behind recent Masters winner James Holzhauer (2nd place) and the show’s now host Ken Jennings (1st place). The Goat tournament marked the first time Rutter had lost a game against a human opponent (he and Jennings lost to Ibm’s computer system Watson in 2011). His...

It’s been a chaotic few years for American quiz show institution Jeopardy!
Following the death of legendary longtime host Alex Trebek in 2020, Jeopardy! embarked on a sprawling search for a replacement with 16 guest hosts vying to fill Trebek’s enormous shoes. Ultimately Jeopardy! producer Mike Richards chose himself for the role. He was then quickly fired when audio resurfaced of him using offensive language on some podcasts.
Goat Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings and The Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik were then tapped as co-hosts. But in December of 2023, Bialik was also let go from the show, leaving Jennings as the sole remaining host and ultimate heir to Trebek’s throne. While some theorized that Bialik’s own history of controversial statements led to her firing, executive producer Michael Davies recently revealed during the Television Critics Association press tour that wasn’t the case.

During the Variety Award Circuit podcast, Stone revealed she wants to do the regular version of the game show, not the “watered-down” celebrity edition, and applies every June. “You can only take [the application test] once a year with your email address. So every June, I take the quiz and they don’t tell you how you did… guess what? I haven’t gotten on the show. In a new episode of Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace (streaming now on Max), host Chris Wallace asks Jennings about his on-screen feud with the Jeopardy champ. It seems like there’s a little bit of an edge there,” Wallace asked the game show host. As Jennings replies: “The thing you have to understand about James is, he decided at one point in preparing for the show that Jeopardy needed a villain. He’s a pro wrestling fan. Review: I love quiz shows. I also love movies and series about quiz shows. Whether it be Robert Redford’s acclaimed Quiz Show, the subplot in Magnolia, or the long-running SNL sketch spoofing Celebrity Jeopardy, something is fascinating about trivia challenges and the people who participate in them. The new Hulu original Quiz Lady takes that concept and adds elements of various comedies, including road trips, raunchy humor, family dysfunction, and more. The result is a far more nuanced film than the trailers present, but one that is absolutely focused on being funny.
