Poll: Face-Off: "How Dare They Do That, Actually?"

The honourable method actor Robert De Niro was invited to hold a speech about the movie Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) on Monday, November 27th, 2023 at the Gotham Independent Film Awards 2023 (wikipedia). His speech was about America's past and it was also politically motivated. When he looked at the teleprompter, he realized that several lines of the beginning of his speech were shortened by Apple. He stopped and went for his mobile to hold the original speech he wanted to hold.

According to The Hollywood Reporter (yt), he asked openly "I'm gonna say these things, but to Apple and all that, Gothams, blah blah blah, Apple. But I don't feel like thanking them at all after what they did. How dare they do that, actually?"

Was it ok to shorten his lines?

"Absolutely yes. There is no place for "political education" at such an event. What does HE dare to do? He shouldn't do that, although they could have warned him before. The censure was ok, according to the event."

"Absolutely no. If De Niro's allegations are true. And, I suspect they are because it was not in his interest to fire at Gotham and Apple. Then, it is unacceptable censure. I understand that they perhaps did not want to make things political. But at the end of the day, De Niro has freedom of speech, if he wants to talk politics, he can do so. The most infuriating is that it seems they did not discuss it with him. You cannot censure someone's personal speech without warning them."
