A touching insight into Alzheimers and family dynamics.
20 May 2001
This is a beautifully well made documentary that manages to portray the relationship between a daughter and her mother as it is affected by the progress of the mother's illness. It is a moving portrait that captures not only the difficulties but also the humor and reality of the process. Dutiful Daughter asks us to consider what's left of what we think of as our "self" after personal memories fade. It also explores the emotional impact of living with a mother who no longer knows who you are. Anyone who would like to understand more about the illness would benefit from this film. It would be hard to improve upon it.
