This has to be my favorite Elmore Leonard adaptation. It stays true to the characters and actually improves the plot. The acting and characters are wonderfully subtle and the dialogue is top notch. The film simply exudes style. While the plot leaves something to be desired(I know she should report to a superior)the movie is about the characters and their relationships. The plot only acts as a catalyst. Many people I've talked to complain that it was too slow and boring. This is only so if you don't pay attention. The dialogue crackles and every actor pulls his weight(the supporting cast is brilliant) but only if you pay attention to them. I think that too many people expect pulp fiction and discover that it's a subtle drama that involves criminals not a crime movie that's dramatic. I love this film and I hope that anyone who hasn't seen it does, and soon.
