Incredible documentary filmmaking
10 October 2002
I was lucky enough to snag tickets to an advance screening of this film last night and it was simply incredible. I have been a fan of Michael Moore for some time now (for those of you who haven't seen Roger and Me or his show TV Nation, get on it). This is without a doubt his best piece of work to date. It has such an amazing mix of emotions that are brilliantly put forth. One minute you are laughing out loud and the next you're heart is broken. For those who belive that this film is just liberal hogwash about gun control, you are severely mistaken. I would say that this is his most unbiased work thus far. The movie is not about controlling guns, it is about why we use our constitutionally protected guns to kill so many people with levels drastically higher than every other country in the world. There are many wonderful moments in the film, some of the best being interview footage with shock rocker Marilyn Manson (who says some of the most intelligent things in the film) and Matt Stone (co-creator of South Park) who apparently grew up in Littleton Colorado. I would definitely rate this film with a 10 out of 10. If it does win best documentary at this years Oscar awards, the academy will have failed once again.
