Yoh, a Japanese shaman, moves to Tokyo in order to train for the Shaman Fight that occurs only once every 500 years, where all the shamans of the world contend to own the Ultimate Soul; The King Spirit.
It's a rather basic plot aimed for young boys, someone (Yoh, the shaman, in this case) wants to achieve an important goal and endures many fights and tender friendship scenes to reach it. Ghosts, spirits, a superb character gallery, great voice actors and crisp animations makes it stand out of that huge pile of similar plots.
I haven't had the privilege of seeing the (overly)cut and dubbed version of it made by 4Kids, but considering their other dubbing-works I doubt it's worth seeing that way, as the original is worthy of eternal fandom.
