The Colbys (1985–1987)
Most absurd final episode ever - but I say that in a good way...
12 November 2005
Warning: Spoilers
The final scene where Fallon's car stalls out in the desert and she eventually climbs on board the spaceship that landed in front of it has got to beat out Pam Ewing dreaming an entire season of Dallas (and Knot's Landing?) as the most ridiculous plot device of all time. (Still, like any other self-respecting gay man at the time, I never missed an episode :-) )

On the other hand, I was very disappointed that they pretty much backpedaled the whole UFO thing when Fallon eventually showed up back on Dynasty. They made her out to be crazy for a few episodes and then it was business as usual again. I remember one episode opening with Fallon as a blonde to show how "wacky" she was.

I'm guessing The Colbys writers knew the show was getting canceled so they decided to go all out for the finale, but then when the character was resurrected on Dynasty, there was a serious "what were they thinking" moment. Kinda like when Steven came back with a whole new face, body, and sexual orientation (actually, *no* sexual orientation).
