The Sadist (1963)
7/10
A delirious ending progresses as we reflect upon the claustrophobic movie that has preceded it, set among a deserted desert garage of busted cars.

Warning: Spoilers
Very fine low budget thriller with more than a little tension. Far more blood and guts than might be expected for the time and the seemingly prissy schoolteacher played by Helen Hovey is more than a little dishevelled by the end. Beautifully shot throughout by Vilmos Zsigmond, working on his first feature, this is possibly a little slow at the start and a bit 'stagy' but by the end we are fully involved and can only gasp as the demented sadist of the title sweeps his car out of the area, that has been the film's set for the duration, throwing up dust over the body of his girlfriend, recently shot by him by mistake. A delirious ending progresses as we reflect upon the claustrophobic movie that has preceded it, set among a deserted desert garage of busted cars.
