I took a long time to watch this movie because, though I had heard many good things about it, I was reluctant to be disappointed yet again by a critically well received film. I am sorry I waited. "The Barbarian Invasions" was truly beautiful, simple, elegant and wrenchingly poignant. If you have a not so grand relationship with your parents, this film will hit home even harder for you. This is the type of film that makes me wonder why American filmmakers can't seem to make truly good movies anymore( there are exceptions such as Chris Nolan). This movie does not stick a tent-pole in your face yet it is a memorable experience. This is a truly effecting film that I suggest any aspiring auteur filmmaker see.
