mixed feelings...
3 December 2008
After finishing Elder Scrolls 1: Arena, quite a few times actually, I happened upon Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall and started playing. Although I enjoyed my time with it, and probably played it longer than ES:1; I never finished it. Daggerfall was a learning process: they steered away from the 2-dimensional 'diablo'-like levels and made huge, 3-dimensional dungeons. Frankly, too large to be enjoyable any more. I'd spent most of my time walking back and forth a dungeon over and over again looking for my mission goal after the 5 minutes of fun exploring it and killing enemies. Luckily, Bethesda learned from its mistakes and produced a different system in Morrowind, where dungeons were refreshingly small with a much higher enemy- and exploration ratio. All the wastes of time that accompanied the quests and slow main-story line failed to immerse me properly in the game. Frankly, I never completed the game because no one told where to go or what to do, not because the quests were too hard.
