I have only just discovered this film mainly by virtue of the leading actors Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslett. This was a roller-coaster of a ride, superbly crafted by Alan Parker taking the viewer from one extreme to another and finally delivering an emotionally charged climax. Kevin Spacey was immense. He is such a consummate actor but where Oh where were the awards?? Unbelievable!! Both Spacey and Winslett pulled off remarkable performances yet few critical plaudits. My advice would be to ignore this omission and see the film - in fact buy it (as I did) and see it over and over again as it loses little in repeat viewings and leaves you stunned.
