Like Judge Judy, he often administers his brand of tough-love to litigants who are on the losing end of his judgments. He often tells losing male litigants, to 'man-up, pay-up, and grow up.'

He wants to get to the truth, and he does so by stealth, shrewd question of the litigants, and his uncanny ability to see through any BS.
