Trishul (1978)
7/10
Awesome movie by Yashraj and Amitabh/Sanjeev Kumar
29 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Yash Chopra and Amitabh was a great pair in 70s after the superhit DEEWAAR(1975) and KABHIE KABHIE(1976)

TRISHUL released in 1978 when Amitabh had 4 hits in a row, others being MUQADDAR KA SIKANDAR, DON and KASME VAADE

The film is a superb movie by Yash Chopra + Amitabh

It has a very different story about fight for legitimacy by an illegitimate child which was remade several times in films by Yash Chopra himself in his bad days with trash like VIJAY(1988) and PARAMPARA(1993) and later by David Dhawan in a worst YEH HAI JALWA(2002)

The film starts with Sanjeev and Waheeda's romance followed by Sanjeev marrying his boss's daughter. Amitabh is introduced lighting a dynamite and walking over with such a swagger and style that only Bachchan could do. We are introduced to Shashi Kapoor in a light flirting scene with a girl in airport and then starts the best part when Amitabh clashes with Sanjeev Kumar Their scenes are the highlight of the film and here the clash is not much through fights but through business tenders.etc We do have fight scenes of Amitabh/Shetty and some more with some other goons but too limited

The film keeps you on tenterhooks only disrupted when the romance angle of other stars(Shashi/Hema and Sachin/Poonam) start and the songs

Just like DEEWAAR there are no songs on Amitabh/Rakhee which also continued in KAALA PATTHAR(1979) yes there is a small interlude in the song MOHABBAT BADE KAAM KI

The film is brilliant and though it gets lengthy at times but yet it is one of the best films by YRF

Direction by Yash Chopra is superb, He does a great job handling the drama Music by Khayyam is superb too, Mohabbat Bade Kaam Ki is the best one and all songs are superb, Here too Kishore is a voice for Shashi and not Amitabh just like DEEWAAR Dialogues are power packed

Amitabh excels in his tailormade role, every expression, dialogue leaves such a huge impact. Yash Chopra and Amitabh were a great team and always gave their best together Sanjeev Kumar too is superb in his chameleon kinda character He suits the role and his chemistry with Amitabh is superb though he was hardly in his 30s he suits the 50+ character well Shashi is relegated to the background mostly though he does have some moments, He does a great job Though he doesn't get much importance compared to DEEWAAR and KABHIE KABHIE Amongst rest Rakhee does a great job, in 1978 she paired with Bachchan in other blockbusters too like MQS and KASME VAADE Here too she does a great job Hema Malini is good too and looks nice, Poonam Dhillon is okay Sachin is awkward Prem Chopra does a good job as the bad guy Waheeda leaves a mark in a cameo
