Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
13 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I have been a fan of the Call of Duty series since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Five years has passed since Modern Warfare 1 first came out, and I still am not bored of the game. Many people called this game, "Modern Warfare 2.5," don't listen to them, play the game for yourself. The first thing I did when I got this game was play the campaign. It is full of the same epic action that has been in every COD game since COD 4, and the graphics still look beautiful, even though it is running on an old engine. The story picks up right where it left off, and it grabbed my attention immediately. The characters are still interesting and fun to watch develop, while the tragedies actually made me feel sad. The campaign wrapped up the series nicely. Returning to Modern Warfare 3 is Spec Ops, except with a new game mode called Survival. It is an intense game mode that will keep you and whoever you are playing with excited the entire time. It gets extremely difficult, the enemies start out having small arms with not armor, but eventually come juggernaut armor, explosives on them, and gas tanks attached to them. Then there is the normal spec ops mission mode. This is back and greatly improved over Modern Warfare 2. The missions are much more intense and varied while also being less frustrating. Last, but certainly not least, is the multiplayer. This is what many people criticized for being to much of the same that MW2 was. While it is very similar there are enough changes that have been made so that I am still interested in it, even after having it for 7 months (I know this review says November but I just edited it significantly on June 12th). There are some new game modes such as Kill Confirmed and Team Defender that keep the game fresh and encourage team work. You can also create game modes for private matches much more easily, some of these game types that are now available for every body and are called Drop Zone, Infected, and free for all moshpit. These are some of my favorite game modes that weren't in any old COD games. There are still the classics such as TDM and Domination. Also new is the strike package system. With this system you can set up a different kill streak package for each class instead of one for all. You can choose from Specialist, Support, and Assault. Specialist (What I use) allows you to get extra perks (you can choose what extra perks you get) with kill streaks. Support are killstreaks that never end, meaning, if you die it doesn't mean you can't get the killstreak reward. A juggernaut is the last option to get in that area and it is not crazy powerful. The support section is for team players, it can range from airstrikes, to bullet proof vests (for everybody), to remote sentries, to recon drones (once tagged by a drone you show up on the enemies map), and to juggernauts. The final killstreak section is the assault section, this is like the killstreak system of old. Once you die, the streak restarts, so if you want to get a reward that takes 17 kills, you must get 17 kills without dying. These are the powerful kill streaks. This section has killstreaks such as Chopper Gunners (called an osprey gunner), AC- 130's, powerful juggernauts, reapers (Allows you to shoot multiple predator missiles), and UAV's. I don't have Call of Duty elite but you can look it up if you are willing to pay extra (I have heard it is cool). The maps have been restructured to play to all game types. I prefer to rush and unlike in MW2 I had no trouble doing so with success. The multiplayer in this game is also much less frustrating because Infinity Ward lowered noob tubes and shotguns in power, while also forcing Campers to use more skill. Overall there is enough in the multiplayer to keep me interested, the spec ops section is refreshed and exciting, and the campaign wraps up the series well. There is enough in this game to keep you interested for quite some time.
