Office Blues (1930)

It's hard to imagine that this is Ginger Rogers.

Warning: Spoilers
When this film begins, if you aren't paying attention to the credits, you might never know that it stars Ginger Rogers in one of her earliest films. That's because it's obvious she underwent a Hollywood makeover. Here, she's a bit pudgy, very voice is VERY New York and her hair and makeup are totally different. About the only actress of the age who might have changed more was Ida Lupino--who also underwent a HUGE makeover between her early films and when she became a star.

Ginger works at an office where she is in love with her boss and a co-worker is in love with her. Instead of doing something about her infatuation, she does what any woman would do in Hollywood--she breaks into song! And during one of this songs, it gets REALLY weird--as she appears with a whole bunch of dancing girls wearing the strangest get-up. And, out of the blue, the boss appears in this surreal setting and pledges his love for her!! It's all incredibly weird but also a bit charming--even if Ginger's singing is far from being very good.

Worth seeing--particularly if, like me, you are a huge fan of Hollywood's golden age. Charming and silly.
