Silent Night (I) (2012)
Yet another inferior remake
4 December 2012
I am not surprised that someone decided to remake the controversial 1984 slasher movie "Silent Night, Deadly Night". I'm only surprised that it didn't happen sooner. The original movie isn't one of my favorite horror movies, but it sure looks a lot better when put up next to this extremely inferior remake. True, this remake looks a lot slicker and more expensive in most aspects - though for some reason there's only ONE scene where snow is visible! The biggest flaw of the movie is that it moves very slowly and sluggishly. Even when the movie gets around to killing someone, the feel of the movie isn't enlivened that much - the kills are so-so at best, and absolutely nothing special at their worst. It's not a surprise that none of the actors seems to be happy to be here - McDowell acts especially cranky and grumpy here. With the original movie (paired with its first sequel) just recently given a re-release on DVD, you'd be better off buying that disc instead of this very tired redo.
