How to spell F.O.R.M.U.L.A.
18 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
How does one spell FORMULA? In Hollywood terms, this movie script, written by a committee, that has already been written and shot dozens,if not hundreds, of times. Slightly damaged boy meets girl, and both must overcome their damage, to find true love. Along the way, the slightly more psychologically damaged one must overcome the negative expectations of family and friends, with the a crucial low point two thirds of the way through. Tears must be shed before all is overcome.

Perhaps teens or twenty something's who spend most of their time gaming and have seen few movies may consider this an emotional, uplifting "feel good" movie. Anyone else will see it as a contrived, manipulative formula. The acting is passable, for a TV drama. Jennifer Lawrence is entertaining, but her trash talking, chatty character is cliché; the other characters are two dimensional. The actors do their best to keep the characters inflated.

In sum, if you want mindless or mind numbing "entertainment", by all means waste your time on this movie. If you'd like to see a creative, original screenplay in a well crafted movie with fine acting, look elsewhere
