Review of Deadheads

Deadheads (2011)
7/10
Just a 90's style road trip movie ... with zombies.
29 August 2013
A random recommendation on Netflix that turned out to be among the better zombie movies I've seen in a long while. Mike wakes up one evening and learns he died and has become a zombie but Mike's brain is fully functioning, he can talk and is not craving human flesh. Frightened he seeks help at a nearby cabin but they don't take kindly to dead folk. Soon after Mike stumbles into Brent, another high functioning zombie that died of auto-erotic asphyxiation and the duo set off to find Mike's ex- girlfriend, Ellie. Deadheads is an 90's style road trip/romantic comedy that manages to be fun, touching, quirky and sincere. There is a fun scene in the beginning that can best be described as Night of the Living Dead meets Feast but thankfully Deadheads doesn't devolve into a montage of mash-ups. On the way to Michigan they meet an odd assortment of characters, some living, some become friends, some want to kill them, and Mike learns the shocking truth of how he became a zombie.
