True Detective The Long Bright Dark is about two detectives who attempt to solve a bizarre serial killer's murder. The sub story of two detective's personalities drives interest in the overall story. Detective Cohle is an intellectual, anal, non family, all job, with bad social skills character. The contrast character Hart is a bull, cops cops with police social skills, and family man. Regrettably the job's pressure creates a dark side which needs stress release. Hart is angry, and cheats on his wife. Hart's cop instincts knows Hart needs Cohle's intellect to help solve the case. Cohle has the intellect to figure out the deep psychology of the case, and Hart has the social skills to handle inter departmental politics. The bizarre case and the detectives' personality conflict creates the right mix for an entertaining episode and series.
