***SPOILERS*** Feeling deeply insecure in stepping into his father Arthur Winford's shoes in running his multi billion dollar real estate & financial empire little Vinnie Winford, Dennis Hopper, secretly runs this .10 cent a dance strip joint in the red light district in midtown Manhattan treating the girls that work for him as if their inmates in a Soviet Gulag. While his very domineering mother Rosalind, Meg Mundy, dose everything that she can to make Vinnie a success in his late father's business he resents her in running his life and making him look, to himself and others, like he's a complete loser and helpless fool without her.
It's when Vennie went a bit too far in roughing up one of his dancers, Judy Hill, that his world as a big time dance hall mogul started to come apart. It's fellow dance girl Ruby Redd, Hilda Brawner, who feeling that her friend Judy was the victim of foul play, on Vinnie's part, went to the police to report her missing. Now in fear of being exposed and facing time behind bars that Vinnie slowly and completely suffered a major melt-down. At first trying to pay off anyone including his faithful ex-con chauffeur Luther, Jack Bittner, as well as the hospital staff to keep quite about Judy's faith. As we soon find out Judy was badly beaten by Vinnie and ended up in the hospital with Vinnie, bless his soul, paying the doctor's bills. The police lead by the socially active who does volunteer work at the local ASPCA, in finding homes for discarded and abused dogs & cats, on his off time that kindly ultra liberal bleeding heart Det. Adam Flint, Paul Burke, who finally broke Vinnie and his ridicules alibi, in not knowing what happened to Judy, down. With the cat now out of the bag where in him now being exposed as the creep that he is "Cry Baby" Vinnie in a fit of madness makes a run for it with the entire NYPD hot on his tail.
***SPOILERS*** In a final attempt to escape his fate, arrested and exposed as an off the wall #1 nut-job and committed in a mental institution, Vinnie tries to kill himself by jumping off one of Manhattan's many bridges but it's his mom Rosalind who talks her crazy and suicidal son out of doing it. Not really the bad guy that everyone thinks that he is Vinnie only needed love and understanding from those around him to set him on the right course in life. No matter how much money and riches he got from what his dad the billionaire Arthur Winford left him it couldn't make up for the emptiness and feeling of being a failure in life that Vinnie felt of himself. Now to be treated of his hang-ups and fears in the mental institution that he's to be committed to Vinnie can finally have his life straightened out and, when he gets out, face the outside world and make a real man of himself.
