Step Up: All In Review

Warning: Spoilers
My Thoughts:

First off all I have to say these movies just like the Fast & Furious franchises is a guilty pleasure of mine and I always look forward to these movies. I can't dance to save my life but I do love watching dancers and the new moves they come up with.

When it was first announced that Step Up 5 was coming out and it wasn't going to be just another installment but a co-lab of all the previous stars from the installments I was very excited. I personally loved Moose ( Adam G. Sevani) in Step Up 2 and 3 and was disappointed with the little time he got in 4. And of course how can you not have Vladd (Chadd Smith) in the movie. Sadly I wish they would have gotten someone from the original movie even though the only thing it has in common with the sequels is the name it would have been great to see them reconnect with it. I know you are not going to get Channing Tatum but maybe you could bring in Jenna Dewan-Tatum.

So lets get onto the new movie. As mentioned in the summary The Mob from Step Up 4 have moved to Los Angles to try to make it big in Hollywood but instead find out that real life can be a bitch. The Mob decide to up and leave the city and head back to Miami but they forgot to talk with Sean (Ryan Guzman) the defacto leader. He finds out all this when he walks back up to the house and see The Mob leaving for the airport. Of course he wants to stay and make a stand. Sean comes across an ad for a dance competition that offers the winner a three year contract.

One of the first thing I thought though is why didn't Sean reach out to The Mob and go "hey guys there is this great contest happening that i know we can rock". I know he had a falling out but we saw from the last movie that these guys are tight and forgive each other in a matter of minutes. But I know for the sake of storyline and to be able to bring back all the all-star talent that we want they needed to do it this way.

This movie is enjoyable but to me it just did not hold up to Step Up 3 and 4 which are two of my favorite of the franchise. I would have to put this maybe right after Step Up 2. The story is OK at best but really you are not coming to these movies for a great storyline. In all the other movies the other dance team always matched the main team in either talent or at least choreography was the same. In this movie when watching the other crews I was not as impressed as I was with the main crew. Moose kills it like always. Vladd is doing his robotic dance that is just mind blowing that someone can move as he does.

My Recommendation:

If you are not into the dance scene or if you did not love the other Step Up movies then you will want to skip this. But if you are someone like me that loves these movies go see it. The dance scenes are good and the music as always is great for this movie.
