The guys are down on their luck, and resort to burning virtually every item of furniture to keep warm. Rick, Neil and Mike are stunned by Vyvyan's revelation that he's pregnant, and all agree that Neil has to get a job to help support his housemate's baby. Armed with a half-finished haircut, Neil impresses Alexei Sayle's Mussolini-imitating Chief of Police, and is recruited on the spot. His first job is to go to an address where a party is being held, and "smash the place up." Meanwhile, a lorry containing luxurious items from food and money to furniture and clothes crashes through the student house, and Neil returns from work to see the boys wallowing in decadence.
Neil performs his policeman duties by attempting to arrest his housemates for suspected theft, but after being struck twice by Neil's truncheon, Vyvyan goes into labour.
It turns out that the pregnancy is actually trapped wind, which manifests itself as spectacular flatulence.
Mike returns to the room to congratulate Vyv on his baby, and to ask whether it's a boy or a girl. Mike hands the father a cigar to celebrate, but the methane-rich atmosphere ignites from Mike's lighter, and the house explodes.
