Dull spy movie is almost the end of the line for everybody
9 May 2015
For some reason Julius Hagen decided to go for bigger productions, here made at Elstree rather than Twickenham, rather than quota quickies. The problem was that he did not have an American distributor lined up.So using fading silent star ,Richard Barthelmess, was really pointless.Hagen only had 10 more films to go before he was made bankrupt.Bartheelmess had a handful left.Frank Vosper disappeared from a ship shortly after the making of this film, and Dolly Haas moved to the states. The film is extremely slow moving even in the 79 minute version I viewed.what it would have been like at its full 100 minutes one can only wonder at.It was probably ,as mentioned by the other review,an attempt to cash in on the success of The Scarlet Pimpernel.Thit fails to do.
