A flame that burned brightly then was out at age 63.

Who above the age of 15 and alive today doesn't know who Robin Williams was? My first contact was the 'Mork and Mindy' TV show that started in 1978 when he was in his late 20s. That was the wide exposure that began his meteoric rise in the entertainment business.

Over the years after that some of my favorite Robin Williams roles are in (and I say "are" because they will exist for much longer than we will):

World According to Garp when he was about 30 . Moscow on the Hudson when he was about 32 . Good Morning, Vietnam when he was about 35 . Dead Poets Society when he was about 37 . Awakenings when he was about 38 . Mrs. Doubtfire when he was about 41 . Good Will Hunting when he was about 45 . What Dreams May Come when he was about 46 . Bicentennial Man when he was about 47 . One Hour Photo when he was about 50 .

He made good movies after that but for me the last 'favorite' movie was in 2002 with 'One Hour Photo.' When you look at the variety of roles, and he did all of them well, you realize what a remarkable actor he was.

We miss him. The age of 63 is way too young. He apparently suffered depression and we'll never know for sure why he couldn't go on.

An excellent documentary on his life, an actor who really cared about the people around him and made so many visits to war zones to help bring cheer to the soldiers.
